XCOM 2 |OT| Be Aggressive! Be Be Aggressive!

I had 3 alien reinforcement dropping from their ship on a flaming floor about to collapse. They all died before they could do anything.

Quick questions for early on. Ive got a squad of corporals and the rest are rookies (real early) should I focus on trying to get rookies in early missions to improve them, or are injuries going to be causing a fair amount of rotation of the ranks so I shouldn't worry?

One of my guys cosmetics changed on its own. I went to go fix it and some of the cosmetic armor options are now gone. Any ideas?

Is there a way to have the side details (aim, cover, height, crit %) always open, and not have to click them every damn time?

Not to sound all negative on the game, but is anyone else just annoyed with how much shit is popping up on the Geoscape all the time? I make up my mind what I want to do, then a bunch of other missions (that you don't want to skip) pop up, you go back to your original scans afterwards, then more...it just never ends, and makes it feel like I don't complete anything.

I'm taking the latter approach. I have a rotating group of people and not focusing on any particular person. That being said, some individuals will naturally begin to outclass others.

Anyone know if the countdown timer has a "0" turn? I know some games kill you at "1" and others have a "0" turn, counting the timer as a "turns left" in the literal sense.

I had a ton of injuries early game. Like 10+ guys in the infirmary at one point.

The percentages are driving me nuts, although I do enjoy the adrenaline rush when I hit 50-70% shots.

Still, I've had more 84%+ shots fail per "capita" than I have had sub 84% shots.

I still love the game and I couldn't finish EU/EW. Something about the adjustments (concealment, drops, and how overwatch works now) just clicked with me like the pieces that were missing from EU/EW.

Some people are claiming on reddit that there are hidden aim penalties tied to difficulty. Considering how shit my luck has been on legend/ironman, like never in my life have I experienced such bullshit, I'm ready to believe them.

Also, is the flashbang crit bug true? Looks like I'm dropping this playthrough until patch. Whew..

I played another few hours today and I'm still loving it. All the little cool additions they've built onto the original are just amazing. Every time I see something new it's something I didn't realize that I've always wanted in XCOM. It's great that so far they seem to have put a bit more effort into the story. I only have 2 gripes so far...

While I do love the setting and story so far I vastly prefer the original. The Advent soldiers are a little too generic and I honestly miss shooting down UFOs and assaulting the wreckage. I completely understand why it can't be that way in the sequel, but I still miss the classic XCOM feel.

The Avatar thing is just annoying. I don't know if I'm having bad luck with it or what. It's like a constant tug of war. Any time I remove one of the squares it is gained back within minutes so I just feel like I'm busting my ass to keep things even. Just once I'd like to get it below 3 squares so I'd have a little breathing room.

There's a tooltip literally telling you that you're supposed to be racing against time with the Avatar project.

That said, assaulting black sites and doing story missions drops the Avatar meter. Do enough of them and you can drop it quite low.

Think I hit a bug which sets my supply to 0. Cleared a terror mission, 0. Waited for a supply drop, still 0. Can't see any reason for why it would drop but I hope it goes away quickly if it's a bug. Will probably completely ruin my pretty damn good run otherwise.

I'm pretty sure that the RNG was tested in Xcom 1 and proven to be reporting correct numbers (IIRC they fudged the numbers slightly on lower difficulties to make players feel better about hitting difficult shots). I really can't see why they would change it for this game.

So has anyone else experienced this glitch?

Assaulting a train mission, a
snake
enemy decides to
tongue/grapple
my sniper. During the animation for it, the camera swung behind buildings some distance away. When the animation ended, the
snake
(and my sniper) have teleported across the map behind said buildings.

It didn't end there. The buildings are further into the map, and activates another pod of enemies. Mission wipe. Best sniper and Ranger dead.

My sniper has the reflex pistol shot and every time she gets hit with this attack, she warps to the nether verse before firing her response attack. I need to screenshot it next time it happens.

Thought I'd give the Steam Controller a blast but must admit the official recommended controls aren't overly intuitive (its no clear at all how you select actions and using the pad to mouse select is painful). However I checked out a few configs other people had posted and 'lets kill Aliens' by Forzare seems pretty good.

L/R Triggers and Buttons control camera rotation and height.

Left pad is functions 1- 9 (thumb over and press)

Left stick is your WASD

Under buttons toggle between targets/characters.

X Reload Y Overwatch B confirm move/cancel action A fire

Right pad is left mouse

Been playing with it for a bit and it makes a lot of sense.

Yeah, I know it's supposed to be a race. I guess I was hoping more a little more of a marathon than the sprint I've been doing. Give me a little time to heal up and do some research, you know?

Damn, that sucks. I had a similar situation earlier. Luckily my Sharpshooter managed to take it down with a pistol shot as a last resort.

I'm not saying it was intentional design. But some definite hidden aim penalty buggery going on. Yes I'm salty. But watching 4 different squad members miss consecutive 80%ers multiple times in different missions on legendary within a hour has questioned my sanity.

I think the official config is great. I've been using it for 15+ hours and it's really quick and easy to use.

Wait. There is no controller support but they bundled the steam controller with the game and the game supports it? o_O Wouldn't that mean having controller support wouldn't be that hard... ? This is confusing as fuck.

Lol, do not start your ambush while using a large truck for cover. Ambush took out everything but the mech which then grenaded the truck killing half my squad instantly.

I just lost an entire squad of corporals because I misunderstood the turn timer on a VIP mission. I thought I'd have turn 0 to extract them. They were all 3 spaces from the extract zone.

There's nothing like customizing a character and naming it after yourself, and then taking yourself on a mission and having to sacrifice yourself for the greater good. RIP me.

no, it means that the Steam controller naturally accomodates mouse and keyboard style interfaces and so it was really low hanging fruit to just have someone test a config and bless it.

edit: the game spams stun lancers too much as a "common" enemy when they are really just about as dangerous as most pod leaders. They're worthless when flashbanged but the 8 hp is such a pain to get through using ballistic weapons.

Try to not have any visible ADVENT sites on the map. The bar looked very bad for me when I had two sites up, I think I was 3 bars from defeat or something. After that scare, I prioritized expanding and taking down black sites and it hasn't crept above the half way since.

Early VIP mission with 2 turns left, killed all aliens and I'm 1 turn away from the Evac area. Get a call from Central
"Sorry, you need to go to this other Evac at the other side of the map" WTF, I just loaded the geo save and redid the level (this time it was a lot easier) but man this game ain't kind to you :/

most of my failures have been for not understanding the systems tbh. Im save scumming like a mofo when that happens. If I lose 1 or 2 soldies in a mission, im fine with that, shit happens, but not failing stuff because I didnt understand the mechanic, because I know if I did, I wouldnt have failed.

then again I didnt play the first one with ironman on anyway, dunno why im justifying it lol

sounds like someone or something destroyed the original evac point. like a fire or something.

I only have one up on my map at the moment and I saved at the start of that mission. Hopefully after I complete that I'll start to get a handle on the Avatar shit. I haven't even had time to increase my squad size. I need more guns on the ground.

Goddamn exploding trucks have been responsible for 90% of my deaths so far. They're a menace!

Any one else encountered that if you wait a few turns to pick up an unconscious soldier, the pickup action doesn't show up? I was just forced to abandon one of my best soldiers during an emergency evacuation because I couldn't pick him up... Afterwards on the mission result screen he was listed as captured...

I have yet to see someone go unconscious, they always just die. So that specialist revive skill seems kinda useless

Really? I have people going unconscious all the time. It's those damn Advent melee dudes that are able to somehow run halfway across the map into the middle of my squad and knock someone out. The dude gets completely obliterated shortly afterward, but I guess he lives (and dies) for shit like that.

there is a tactic upgrade in guerilla tactics school that greatly increases it (more likely to bleed out than get gibbed)

Another observation:

The Gunslinger tree for your Sharpshooter is amazing, but if you're going to pick one skill from the Sniper tree, go with Kill Zone. Good god that ability is fucking incredible.

I purposefully don't hide behind cars/trucks at all for this very reason. Too easy to get squad wiped without warning.

Unconscious has happened to me a few times - it's a side effect from stun lancers instead of getting stunned or disoriented. Had to carry my best grenadier around the entire map because she got knocked unconscious by a lancer at the very beginning of the mission. I haven't had any guys bleeding out yet from attacks though.

Note to self: Mutons can counterattack off of sword attacks! No matter how cool it would seem to style on one of the big green assholes, don't do it, because they'll rip off your Ranger's arms and beat them to death with them!

First Blacksite mission went pretty well otherwise. I need to build up a stockpile of Rookies to run through the GTS.

Edit: And Revival Protocols are INVALUABLE. Stuns, panics, and ESPECIALLY unconscious can be absolute squadbreakers. Being able to bring that guy out of panic at JUST the right moment can totally turn things around.

I was trying to target a snake to dash to it, get cover and use the sword on it in one turn but because the camera was swaying around, I couldn't get my mouse to stay on the enemy with the sword attack icon. So of course it kept changing from a regular move to a sword attack move and when I clicked, the camera sway meant the cursor was changed to a regular move. The turn was now over, my soldier is standing next to the snake doing nothing, another three enemies were revealed and moved to cover and the snake strangled my soldier. All because of a stupid camera issue.

It's like they didn't bother fucking testing this game. As it stands now the game doesn't deserve the reviews it's getting.

Are you guys sticking just to one side on the skill tree or mix and matching skills? I mixed and matched a lot in EU/EW because some skills were pretty useless but in XCOM2 I am finding myself sticking to strictly one side for all soldiers so far
