Xenia Is A Working Xbox 360 Emulator,Showcased Running Commercial Game For First Time

I started a thread about this a while ago but I have a problem with last gen consoles being emulated while they are still being produced and sold. This came up a lot with the Wii and people skipping out on buying one because they could just emulate Xenoblade or SMG.

The Xbox 360 will likely be dead or on its last legs by the time games are actually playable in this emulator (if it even gets to that point). I don't think it's an issue in practice here. The Wii was something of a unique case due to it being underpowered hardware wise and largely identical to the GameCube for which emulation had been underway for a few years by then.

List of every game in history that can run at 60 fps on an emulator but is limited to 30 fps on native hardware:
1.Kingdom Hearts
2. Kingdom Hearts 2

Good luck expecting that a hack will exist some day for any one single game. Might as well plan your future around the expectation that you'll win the lottery.

There are also PSP games with fixes and Dolphin games that were once fluctuating between 30 and 60 that will lock 60 if you overclock the emulated cpu

Smash has always been 60FPS on consoles. 120FPS smash?

Yep, run Smash at 2x speed and use the slow mode special brawl. it looks butter at 120fps on a 120hz monitor!

Too bad it currently requires Haswell or better CPUs. With the way things are going in the PC space, I'm not going to upgrade my mobo & CPU for a long time.

This, no need to buy a console I don't want to own.

That's why I love emulation.
I appreciate the sentiment, but that is reaaaally not the point of an emulator. If you want to play the game (whatever 360 game ) perfectly and in this decade, the console is still the best choice.

Emulators are for preservation. In 20 years, finding a working console is going to be hard, 20 years after that it might be nearly impossible if you are not a die hard collector. Emulation opens these games up for posterity.

There's a good chance it will require better than a Haswell CPU if/when Xenia gets to a point of decent compatibility. You aren't going to get any meaningful system requirements at this stage.

There is no one "point" of emulation. Claiming that preservation is the only true purpose of emulation is ridiculous. There are numerous reasons why people use it.

So how many decades until we can emulate RDR and Dragon's Dogma 1080p?

Seriously tho, this is good progress.

Great progress!

DX12 [drawcall count/full CPU multicore utilization] will accelerate PS3/X360 emulators by a lot.

Nice progress on Xenia.

I wonder how it will handle Xbox Live. Everything will be totally offline eh? Connecting to XBL with this would probably ban the account.

Yeah, definitely won't be happening. Everything is playable offline one way or another though.

You might see some emulated servers emulating the Xbox Live servers so you might be able to play online. That'll probably be years down the line

Color me excited though, really want to play Lost Odyssey, RDR, and some other 360 games in 1080p, it'll be interesting to see how these games will eventually scale to 4k and such

Looking at the channel, a bunch of smaller games work like Yu-Gi-Oh 5D's, Super Meat Boy, and Castle Crashers work with little to no problems. Of course other games have a bunch of problems and crashes but it's crazy it has even come this far.

Excited to see how this shapes up once DX12 releases.

Color me impressed! Who knows, maybe we will be able to play Sonic Unleashed in 1080p by the end of the decade if we are lucky!

So.. will it ever be POSSIBLE to emulate the OG Xbox? So many of my favourite games, just aching to be played in 1080p 60fps (and better)

Voodoo Vince, Legacy of Kain, Crash Bandicoot: Wrath of Cortex, etc...

Maybe they can emulate the X360 so precisely one day, that you can run the 360's Xbox Emulator on top of it. But that would probably never run in a stable fashion.
