Xenoblade announced for New 3DS

I do feel sorry for whoever plays this on the New 3DS, though.

Xenoblade, out of any game that I can think of, NEEDS good resolution for the whole experience. Playing at a resolution that's much lower than the Wii's resolution just does not make any sense to me.

Yeah, I loved Xenoblade a ton. I guess if you have no other option for playing it, this would be good. But I would still recommend playing it on a full screen with a good sound system.

I played it on Dolphin with HD textures. Still looking forward to this, though only if they can manage to get a locked 30fps and rebalance some things. I'd love to be able to do sidequests without trivializing enemy encounters.

I agree. I hope nintendo remasters this for wii U. 3ds version looks ugly as hell. eww.

work with me here.

is it really unfathomable that the game, as it stands, will see improvements? I'm not being obtuse here.

And people wonder why publishers prefer to preview games through lies and bullshit CG-trailers.

This is Hyrule Warriors and Super Mario 3D World all over again.

The game is at least half a year from going gold.

I wonder if the Nu3ds will be receiving ports for a steady stream of exclusive games. Clearly the upgraded specs make ports more workable so I imagine it would be a relatively easy, fast, and cost efficient way to put exclusive, retail scale games on the system.

If so, I vote for...nothing.

I'll elaborate with an example.

Dolphin:

Wii:

Instead of the Wii's 480p resolution, Xenoblade 3DS' resolution will be 240p.

You do understand that this is a bad example, right? The Wii version looks so bad on HDTVs because it's being upscaled. If the 3DS version is rendered at the native resolution of the 3DS screen, it should look much clearer than the Wii version does on a 1080p display.

If this only plays on the "new" 3DS then Nintendo has truly lost the plot.

This isn't a god damn ipad where upgrades come every couple years. It's a frigging handheld gaming device, at least change the name. What a joke.

I'm not buying this crap and it's making me consider not buying nintendo products again. It's amazing how Nintendo shits all over their early adopters.

The thing about it is that I don't remember my Wii looking that blurry or jaggy. Strange.

I'm seeing dozens of comparison pictures and this is the least jarring one. The blades of grass on the Wii look terrible in still-frames.

The best I could do was quote the picture for a comparison under a lower resolution. It still doesn't change the fact that resolution is pretty significant in a game like this.

EDIT: I'll change the picture to something a bit more early in the game.

Gameboy Color.
DSi.

It happens every generation. You probably haven't been buying Nintendo products for long if you think this is new.

I'm not going to worry about the graphics until I actually see it on a New 3DS screen. Everything I saw of ALBW looked like utter shit in browsers and Youtube videos, so I was pleasantly surprised when I booted it up on the 3DS and thought it looked beautiful.

The framerate and slowdown, otoh, is something that concerns me.

Can't believe Nintendo is doing this

yet again

it's been decades Nintendo, it's time to stop

Spare me. I'm 29, I grew up on Nintendo consoles and handhelds.

All the DSi did was provide a camera and access to overpriced subpar downloadable games.

Game Boy Color is a completely different system. Game Boy being the name of nintendo's handheld line at the time. GBA and GBA SP could all play the same games, one just happened to have a back light and better design. "New" 3ds is going to divide the market because I'm assuming that it'll play 3ds games just fine and that there's only going to be select games specifically for the "new" 3ds.

Calling it the "new" 3ds is a slap in the face of the people who are early adopters and i'd wager that you yourself haven't been playing nintendo products as long as I have because you'd probably be angry too. Nintendo has fell so far from where they were in the 90's and early 2000's. They're a shell of their former self and it's pathetic and sad. Not only were they too dumb to bring xenoblade over on the wii when NA wii supporters were clamoring for it, they now have the audacity to create a "new" 3ds that leaves millions of 3ds owners out in the cold.

There's nothing cool about this.

Seriously, is this outrage born out of ignorance, principles, or an intentional refusal to understand history?

There was no way with the way the 3DS now that Xenoblade would be able to come to it in any presentable form. It was either this or no Xenoblade on 3DS at all. I mean, Xenoblade on new 3DS already looks really rough. Imagine if it came onto the original 3DS.

The original 3DS came out over 3 years ago, and Nintendo will still be supporting it through the new 3DS's lifetime as well. It's just that having the new 3DS allows Nintendo to also on the side develop games or entice third party developers to bring over games they wouldn't have been able to on the original 3DS.

You need to calm your ass down.

they did bring it out when na wii supporters were clamoring for it. it's sort of the reason it came out in north america. if you wanted it and didn't buy it that's not really nintendo's fault.

but if you're that up in arms about the new 3ds, pretend it's like the gbc in that it's a 'completely different system' so you can enjoy the exclusive games for it since apparently it didn't matter to you when you were a teenager.

And after recognizing that it won't split the market you are left being angry purely because of the *New* moniker? How dare Nintendo put *New* in front of the 3ds name?

Native or not, 240p is still 240p. It'll look awful on the XL model and the smaller one really won't do the visuals any favors with its tiny screen and dpi.

It can't really be "clearer" because literally half the pixels are gone. It's just less stretched.

They should have added "Really" to it.

"Really New 3DS (X/LL)"

That would help clarify everything.

I am calm, i'm just being real. I buy the majority of nintendo products day 1 and i'm tired of nintendo being a subpar gaming company. It annoys me because I know how good nintendo can be and they aren't anymore. That's my 2 cents. I won't post anymore in here. Everyone knows how the nintendo defense force can be, you can't talk reason to them because nintendo can apparently do no wrong (that isn't a knock against you specifically btw, and I honestly mean that). Besides, I have xenoblade on the wii and I'll have the new one on WiiU when it releases. I'm curious what other games I'll miss out on now with my 3ds because nintendo can't seem to make business decisions that make any logical sense.

and honestly, if they would have called it something besides the "new" 3ds i'd probably be fine with all this, and I realize that sounds silly. It's just seems so f*cked to me that they're just, "oh yea, here's this updated 3ds, give us your money again"

No Sir.

The New 3DS will release. People will buy it. Nintendo will keep making games for the 3DS. Everyone will go on with their lives. In other news water is wet and Monday comes after Sunday. All this arguing is pointless without any substantial information. Everyone is just going off baseless assumptions over one game.

I'm not one for technical details so forgive me if this sounds dumb, but is that working off the assumption they're using the same assets? Can't the way they're rendered or perhaps updated in the porting process mean they're not literally missing half the pixels, but that there's just a different pixel count? I mean obviously there will be half the pixels, but I hope you understand what I'm asking.

Please don't do this. It's so obnoxious, and I know the anonymity of the internet grants us the ability to be supremely obnoxious, but let's not act like you could not have replaced the word "nintendo" with Sony/Microsoft/EA/Square-Enix/Capcom/Koei/ANYTHING and have just as
in
valid of a point. The sooner gamers stop acting like certain segments are largely the of the exact same mindset, the better.

When I play a game on my 3DS, it looks clearer to me than a Wii game on any of my HD displays, despite most Wii games being 480p. It's even clearer than 720p Wii U games on my 1080p displays. Upscaling completely wrecks shit. Maybe I'm particularly sensitive to it, but unless Xenoblade is not rendering at the native resolution of the New 3DS, there is no way I would consider the Wii version to have more clarity (unless it's played on a CRT or upres'd in Dolphin).

Shoul've been Super 3DS or something, the name does not fit at all. Imagine trying to buy the new model 3 years from now.

"Hey i want to buy a NEW 3DS"
"Oh you mean the 4DS?"
"No the NEW 3DS"

...

Well here's the "Wii" image brought down to 480p. Looks a lot more like the actual product on Wii.

xenottjvl.jpg

It'll look fine in 240p when it's the native screen resolution.

This image has been sitting in my 3DS SD Card since the middle of 2011. Since then it's been a dream of mine to play it on my 3DS. Sadly, it isn't the one I have now, but I'll get it regardless.

That image looks pretty awesome on my 3DS XL. Can't wait to play it when it comes to the system.

Damn, now I've truly heard it all

My argument sucks but the reason is because you suck more?

Yeah guys just leave fart town usa alone, he's just keeping it real.

There are people who think nintendo can do wrong, but this? This is mostly a non-issue, one to a couple exclusives isn't going to burn the world down breh.

Dude when this releases in America it will have been 4 years since the OG 3DS.

That's 4 iphones and 4 ipads later.

It's not that big of a deal.

They'll probably have to downgrade a few assets to get things running properly but yeah it'll be missing half the pixels.

Look at the images above for instance - in the Dolphin shot you can see a lot of details like the blue lines on the side of the Monado, but in the Wii shot it's a lot harder to see and really jagged. Both screens (to my knowledge anyway, the building textures make me wonder if this had the HD texture pack) have the same assets, but those lines are much harder to see on Wii because the pixels displaying that information aren't there.

On 3DS small stuff like that probably won't even be visible at all. The Monado would just look bright red.

That's fair enough, it is kind of a preference thing. I don't like stretching either but I'd take it over 240p for sure, lol.

I can't believe people are still upset about a revision to, what will be, a 4 year old piece of hardware. I'm absolutely astonished at how poorly some on GAF are taking this whole thing. Shit, the Xbox 360 came out four years after the Xbox and people didn't cry, they were excited.

Exactly. To me, this feels like they're saying "The next-gen handheld we're working in R&D isn't commercially viable yet and it won't be for quite some time. So have this new, beefed up, faster 3DS for the same price as the current 3DS."

It's not a necessary purchase if you already have a 3DS. You might miss a some games, but you'll live.

The 360 was a new console and the N3DS isn't. Almost everybody in this thread, including myself, who are upset about the existence of this stopgap revision have blatantly said that they would have no problem with an actual new console.

People wouldn't have been very excited to find out they'd need to buy a PS3 slim to play the next inFamous or whatever because it's not even an actual new console. Come on.

it looked way better for this on my tv.
though I remember wii images/nintendo game images looking like crap even for good looking games. i remember some Prime 3 screenshots looking pretty horrible, when in motion, the game looked great.
