Total survey rate sitting at about 43%, running out of probes to plant so I'm gonna have to start thinking about my endgame stuff if strong Tyrants inhabit those segments (aside: I can't stop thinking of Overed, then I have to correct myself)

Heh, that's nothing. I accepted a Basic Mission that wanted 3 of an item that spawns on the far side of Cauldros. I haven't even started Chapter 6 yet and I decided to soldier through on foot. Really hard to find the path through that region and several unavoidable anti aircraft turrets along the way that could take out my party super fast. But I made it! I also found the entrance to the giant castle that has final dungeon feels all over it. Made it pretty far in before security escorted me out :p

I try not to accept basic missions unless I have everything because I don't like clogging up my list (even if I sort, it's the comfort of a smaller to-do list). Did a lot of flying around Cauldros planting probes and I think I'll go on foot once I'm required to be back there.

Hmm I wonder if the game has been out long enough (factoring the Japanese release) for someone to discovered the most optimal setup for probe placement and maximum efficiency for chains with a high bonus modifier to get materials quickly and maximize Miranium.

Probably too soon I guess.
This guide seems really good but its all end game http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/701151-xenoblade-chronicles-x/72977406

This is another one but its in Japanese :/ http://kamikouryaku.xsrv.jp/xenobladex/?%B2%D4%A4%AE%CA%FD%CB%A1

I finally got my skell.

They can swim in the water right?

I can not get the Attack on Biahno Hills quest to pop up and it is driving me mad. Does anyone know how to trigger it?

I was in chapter 6-7 when I did it and I was going around doing every normal mission I saw but unfortunately I can't point you to what missions are part of its quest line. My recommendation if you have most easily accessible probes already put in every continent, is to go find every normal mission you can find in one loop, do them all and keep doing them until it appears. I got it somewhere in industrial district.

Some of these missions are tied behind other normal missions with little logic as to what ties them together.

I have changed my end game goal to not seeing the credits but to get that Doll named
Ares
.

Who designed these boss battles?

This is straight up Deus Ex HR difficulty spikes.

I was like 5 levels above the boss battle for chapter 9, and they kicked my asses with these bullshit 1-shot murder skills.

Even with the difficulty lowered the guy kicked my ass and I only won the fight because the last teammate was able to revive me in time.

But when the skell battle started I wrecked their shit.

Game get your shit together.

Also there was no reason for not letting you use skells in the first battle.

Sounds like you just need to rethink how your team works. I had no trouble with it whatsoever.

Just did a normal mission that seemed of little consequence which seems to have kicked off a story arc with a recurring antagonist who seems just as deadly as the main story villains.

How the fuck did this game get mixed reviews in Japan? X is a masterpiece that other open worlds should aspire to.

Boohoo, was expecting everyone in NLA to get new dialog after I got to chapter 4. Instead only maybe 5% of people got new dialog, not worth it to go around talking to everyone again. Wish it was more like Trails in that sense.

If you wait until the next chapter, nearly every NLA NPC will get updated/completely new dialogue.

I finally finished Chapter 5 when I'm level 31...

Affinity and Basic Quests are troublesome for collectibles.

Chapter 5

I'm really surprised that I am fucking Mimsome (robot) and I was told to keep that secret for that information but everyone in the city knew they're mimsome and lifehold... so what the heck?!

The crew being mimeosomes wasn't a secret, they assumed you remembered and didn't find it necessary to remind you - everyone else is fully aware of that. The Lifehold running out of power is what they're trying to keep hidden from the rest of NLA - though from various NPC conversations, you can see that's not entirely contained knowledge either.

Finally got my skell flight pack and while yes it's fucking awesome there's a MASSIVE downside I haven't seen anyone mention:

Once you get the flight pack say bye bye to being able to hop around in your skell.

"But Woof, flying is better than jumping anyways"

Tell that to unnecessary fuel consumption when you just want to hop a little ledge or climb the side of mountain. Not even tapping the trigger works, it insta-goes to flight mode. They should have forced you to hold the trigger for flight or something.

Also hopping away from enemies, and in between enemies to grab items real qukck and hop away before the aggro, is gone now. I did that shit all of the time in my skell.
That sounds fucking terrible. Why would they do that? I expected flight mode to be on a separate button altogether and different from regular ground mode with jumping etc.

Let's put a giant countdown clock in view of the entire town, but keep the significance of it top secret. That ought to keep the rumors and speculation under control!

It's a pretty stupid contrivance, but I assumed it was some integral process they couldn't easily disable (since it was originally part of the White Whale, the Lifehold might have needed easily visible diagnostics in the main population centre), and covering it up would cause more suspicion than just leaving it there. Of course, it's just because they wanted a twist.

I think it was there just because it looks cool and mysterious. Anime writers seem to LOVE mysterious countdowns.
While I could see how this would be a vital piece of information for the population on the White Whale, it defeats the purpose of putting it in full view of everybody if its meaning is kept a secret.

Ah well, I expect some wonky writing in my JRPGs. Just thought it was funny.

Just beat Ch 5 and after the wtf moment, I suddenly remember this game is by Monolithsoft. Baten Kaitos, Baten Kaitos Origins, and Xenoblade Chronicles all have major twists. It's been a few years and I had forgotten about how Monolithsoft's stories are. Freakin' love it!

I think the Baten Kaitos I twist is still considered the best twist of all.

After chapter 3 I found one person got new dialogue referring to the prior mission.

Is there a guide for NPC'S that get updated dialog? I don't want to go through all of New LA and talk with everyone if only one person has new dialogue.

Just finished Chapter 5. This game is so overwhelming. I want to progress the story, and I don't mind exploring for a few hours really, but there are just so many people to talk to. I used I be one of those players who talks to everyone in towns, but the number of people in this game is far too much for me. I find myself just clicking through dialogue which I have really never done before. I think I need to try to slow down and just enjoy the world. I think I'm just in a rush to complete missions and move forward in the story that I don't appreciate the world-building Monolith Soft is trying to accomplish.

I wish there were an easier way to take screenshots. I wish Wii U had an HDD where I can save pictures easily and directly. For now, I upload to Flickr, which works fine, it just takes quite a bit longer than the Share button on PS4. Also, I haven't really bothered taking pictures during gameplay because it's such a hassle removing the HUD every time. All of my pictures are taken during cutscenes, but I think I should stop doing that because I really don't like pausing in the middle of a scene. I feel like I'm missing out because I'm not really paying attention to what's happening; I'm really just looking for a good picture. I feel like I missed out on the cool Chapter 5 cutscenes for this reason.

Anyway, I'm done rambling for today. I start my new job soon, so I won't have a lot of time to play which contributes to my tendency to rush, but I'll try to be patient!

Damn. Chapter
9
literally kicked my ass three times over.
I couldn't use Lao, story-wise, so my usual team was one member short. After losing twice in the first boss fight, I decided to fix Lin and Elma's Arts setup and, as far as I can tell, made Lin the tank character she was supposed to be.

Enter the 2nd boss fight
with the Skells, but I was beat before I finished them off. So I got a new character on my team, Alexa, got her up to Level 20 for the exam Skell, and had her as backup. Needless to say, I lucked out this time, so I may keep her around.

I think I'm still officially at Chapter 4. I did the first story mission after FINALLY getting out of that affinity mission.

Went in at level 16, thought I was overleveled, that boss almost got me. She was tough.

I'm apparently already good to go for the next story mission, but I'm gonna do some stuff around town first. I wish I could turn the radar off the UI, or switch it to the gamepad. it's killing my poor TV. :(

Blade Fencer for the win. :3

I thought saving a picture to the Miiverse picture thing would be bigger =/

But the

helps out so much with the hunting and discovering sight seeing locations. 0o

Uh no, you should get the flight module ASAP.

OK sorry. I heard about this:

Yeah, really. You can't jump once you get the flight module. On top of the things already said, the flight music always kicks in long enough to reset the zone music. It's dumb.

But yeah. I don't know what I was thinking. Might as well get it over with.

When your online and automatically part of a squad, you can see a row of icons on the lower right, indicating the number of enemies and/or items to collect within a time limit. These are Squad Tasks.

When the number on those icons hit 0, you'll earn an amount of tickets. The best part is, as you are part of that squad, you don't necessarily need to do those tasks. Of course, if you do kill an enemy as part of that icon, you'll earn a ticket per kill.

If you see a white "S" icon above an enemy, those are the enemies you need to kill.
Oh. That's what the use of the squad mission. I pretty much neglect it. So white S icon is the one I need to kill. Interesting. Thanks for that

Same here, just finish Chapter 4.
I was Level 15, and that boss was quite tough.
I did not done any affinity mission before, so I will certainly do some before going after Chapter 5.

For now, let's look at some screenshots. Noctilum is really beautiful, especially at night!

About the end of chapter five
totally called that they weren't entirely human about, ooh, a minute into the character creation process, when you get to choose their eyes and they're almost all weird cybernetic designs. Then it was confirmed when Elma straight up encourages you to jump off a cliff, and not long afterwards some NPC asks if someone is 'damaged'.

Well, the jumping of the cliff part doesn't really make much sense cause mims or not, they would still get damaged to the point of death. The mims are, after all, supposed to be exactly like real human bodies.

But yeah, it is very heavily foreshadowed.
