Your PS3 impressions...

Good:

Hardware looks slick
Powerful hardware
Size of the unit is perfect (PS2 size, makes X360 look too big)
BUILT IN WI-FI!!!!
MGS4!
GTA @ Launch (= PS3 bought at launch, I will trample the homeless and small children to get my hands on this)

Bad:
Spider-Man font (not a big deal though, unlike the content of the Ugly section)

Ugly:
Controller. OMGWTFBBQ (It better be sex in the hands, I mean pure, all out orgasmic feeling. Else Pedigree Chum's controller whoring self = OWNED)

The Spiderman font is not going to make it onto the launch units. Don't forget that PS3 is still 9 months from lauch at a minimum.

My impressions:

Microsoft better have some hot shit ready for their E3 conference or they are about to recieve another beating of a lifetime.

I'm intrigued by the controller design. Not sure if it is bad/good yet. The hardware is fantastic and has a ton of cool multimedia features. The games look spectacular and a good clip above what we've seen in 360 shots. I truly hope MS has a big unveiling for the 360 at the upcoming conference.

I must say that even with the ugly controller it wont stop me from picking up this system. I'm in it for the games, and GTA/MGS are more than enough to justify it. But man, the controller...is...Sony please re-design it. PELASE!

Bit underwhelmed actually, with a Perfect Dark Zero moment as well in the form of the joypad.

It's just all as expected really, from the features of the console to the line up of games. Was far more impressed with Reiko and a rubber duck :-S

Good : Everything.

Bad : The controller COULD be bad, but I don't think Sony would do a major change on the Dual Shock if it was a sucky one.

Ugly : No videos yet.

Good

Nice looking hardware
Extensive feature set
Excellent software support (as expected)

Bad

Graphics are unimpressive

The console looks pretty good but the font is terrible. Whether they change it will be seen, but for now, that font is worthless. The controller... well, the less I say about that, the better. Oh yeah, and don't forget MGS 4!

I'm amazed at the dual 1080p support/6x blu-ray + shitload of ports + PSP connectivity.

I might get one as a media center alone.

Waiting for some original games.

sums it up.

The good: If Killzone is indicative of what is to come, Microsoft better be cowering.

The bad: Lousy console exterier.

The ugly: Worst controller ever.

I agree with your ugly section. I want to see these games already!

Fugly: The controller

Controllers are about tactile response and comfort. All this talk about the ugliness of the controller is crap until someone actually uses the damn thing. The original PS controller was a damn ugly sight back in 1994/1995 too.

System design is meh. Controller design is horrible. Games announced so far are the typical franchises that are hugely popular, but don't appeal to me at all.

the console looks good, the games lineup is TOP DOLLAR but the controller needs a redesign.

First impressions : the next gen has come, x360 more like xbox 1.5! hah! (althogh im sure itll be fighting back big time)

Good.
A bunch of huge established franchises announced(kind of two-sided knife though).
Looks to be more powerfull than the 360.
Killzone if real time.

Bad.
No change. When you have games that have a 5 or a 6 in the title, that doesn't really scream change to me.

Ugly.
Unless they were talking about the controller, in which case I can see the change and it's not a good one. Will wait to hold it in my hand before I make my finally judgement on it.

All in all...pretty much in line with what I was expecting. But people really need to stop jumping the gun. Let's let these guys show us some games first. Christ we haven't even seen anything on any of these systems.

So far out of everything I've seen on both systems Killzone and Gears of War are really what I was expecting out of next gen, IF these games are real time.

my impression is "not as underwhelming as xbox360"

which is to say, still a little underwhelming.
I'd never thought I'd say this, but bring it on Nintendo

I like the design of the console and those screenshots were drool worthy. Fucking WARHAWK!! Oh god yes! Now let's see some vids! I absolutely can't wait to play it.

However the controller is a big pile of shit. The DS needed to be retooled but not like this. There better be a 3rd party controller that apes the 360 controller design.

Good: the images/screenshots
hardware performance

Bad: the console looks like a flat bed scanner

Ugly: the dual-sex controller is the worst looking thing I've seen in a while

Sony's hardware designers have kinda fallen off.... this gen looks embarrasingly bad. All of the consoles I've seen this gen will be sitting deep inside my armoire.

Even so, it still uses the broken analogue stick layout the DS2 used.

price needed & usa ship date.

it's quite ugly along w/ the controller but as long as the jaggy-tastic feature of the PS2 is gone, gone, gone then there is marginal room for complaints. nothing earth-shattering... about what was expected for the next-gen

Very positive.. I was worried that they would not live up to my expectations, but they did.
First impression of controller.. UGLY. But, it might sit well in your hand, now when the first shock has gone away. i think its not THAT bad anymore.

PS3 + PS2 + PS1 > all. BC means that much to me.

Hardware design doesn't affect me one way or the other.

I was expecting more from the hardware with the way people were hyping cell and the controller is complete crap. Devil May Cry is the only sequel im looking forward to right now, I dont think they showed off anything original. Dissapointing so far.

With the Blue-Ray Drive and 1080p support I'm already there. Add the bluetooth, memory stick support, and the GAMES...

I love the realistic look of the PS3 games so far. Not all plastic looking from too much texturing. Love the lighting and geometry, and the gritty look.

FFXIII and DMC4 means I simply have to buy this console.

All of my favorite series AND Warhawk? Sold. PS3 will be the first home console I've purchased at launch since Dreamcast. Sony has exceeded my expectations. I expected them to talk about the PS3 but I never dreamed that their entire conference would be about the PS3 only. They delivered.

The console - Seems to be a powerhouse with lots of neat media options. B/C. Not sure what I think of the design. It's not bad.

Games - Really sealed the deal with a GTA launch announcement. A little heavy with sequelitis to really excite me, but their all there. What the games announcement says to me is that the 360 wasn't able to steal some things away like it needed to. Especially a new GTA. They'll get a nice head start this gen (most gamers won't wait 6 months to a year for PS3), but all those people will still buy a PS3.

Controller is horrendous and I VERY MUCH doubt it will be the launch design.

Nintendo really better be something different and not just apeing the other two or their dead.

Desing is nice, better than the Xbox 360, which looks like a white Dell Optiplex. Early images don't look much better or worse than what we've seen on the 360 so far, imho. HOwever, that batt-a-rang controller looks very odd. I'll reserve judgement on it until we get some reports on it. As others have said, back when PS1 came out, the controller was soundly trashed as well. But early impressions are that it's damn ugly, and sure doesn't look comfortable, even if it is in the long run.

PSP integration is excellent for me. I'm loving my PSP and any way to use it with it's big brother is excellent.

- System probably won't be that much more powerful than X360. It will have an advantage, but there's not that much you can improve on games like 99 Nights and Gears of War graphically (assuming GoW framerate is stabilized, which I'm sure it will). The PS3 will have a bigger advantage in terms of system features like full backwards compatibility with PS2 and PSOne, and Blu-Ray movies, than it will in terms of hardware specs.

- I like the design of the system itself. Controller is underwhelming, barring some big surprise like gyroscopic controls, but I'm not hating on it either.

Console looks sleek. Don't really care if it looks like a minifridge to some people. I remember people complaining that the PS2 looked like a car-amp, but it was still my favorite looking system of last gen.

Spider-Man font is something I can get used to, but it does not match with the console look at all.

Controller: son of a bitch!

Games: looking very very good. NEXT-GEN WARHAWK OH SWEET MERCY

Sums everything up. no more posts needed. Please lock and sticky thread. ;)

Good: Not sure yet. I'm still waiting for actual in-game gameplay screenshots not FMV shots.
The bad: Looks like a mini-fridge flatbed scanner. The controller. Can we say double headed dildo? Might work good for Rez 2 though :lol

My impressions:

System looks nice, different from PS3 and glad they going with a different style this time instead of slapping PS3 on it

Games are impressive, nothing overwhelming now, but they have the most developer support going into the next generation

They handled the PS3 unveiling well, didnt leak much information so it all came as a big BOOM

Glad it's release date is 2006, IMO 2005 is too early and they have some big releases on PS2 left. That's MUCHO points that they will allow PS2 to get its primetime and give us some big final games for the system before transitioning into the next generation

:)

Good: Appearing within 4-6 months of the xbox 360, but with a fair bit more power
Industrial design
6x fucking speed Blu-ray
Announcements of most of the major games already.
Open formats being used

Bad
Controller?

It's funny how MS were saying they didn't want to get into handhelds because they didn't want to lose focus. In fact, Sony, rather than losing focus, are really out for blood. They really look like they want to smash the Microsoft this time round.

I'm quite underwhelmed overall.

That controller looks bad too. And I have doubts about Bluetooth being used for wireless controllers.

The PS3's hardware options really have my interest so far, like the flash card support and SACD support. i'll finally have an excuse to get the handful of SACDs i've been wanting to get.

The design of both the console and the controller is extremely disappointing, especially after the slim PS2. Microsoft struck a good balance of both approachable and slick design with the Xbox 360, whereas the PS3 doesn't even look like something you'd hook up to a tv, and i mean that in a bad way. Sitting vertically, it almost looks like an air purifier. Definitely not something i'd want next to my tv. Unfortunately, it looks worse horizontally.

i can understand keeping the basic layout of the Dual Shock controller as you've got both previous systems emulated on the PS3, but the rounded shape looks uncomfortable (and is, judging by third party designs) and i really wish they'd move the left analog stick up where the d-pad is. The analog sticks don't appear to be sticks anymore though, so i'm awaiting impressions to see just how they feel in us. i expect there to be a few tweaks to both designs, and hopefully if the reaction to them is negative enough, Sony will resort to something more traditional.

Console = UGGGGGGGLY
Controller= UGGGGGGGLY+looks uncomfortable... another awful FPS controller?
Spiderman font = LOL

Honestly I think the 360 has it beat...

Mix of excitement and concern.

Excitement:

- backwards compatible: I can get all the PS2 games I missed
- blu-ray and fast at that
- looks great - will look lovely in my home entertainment unit
- all the well known franchises are still with Sony
- seems to be powerful, but:

Concern:

- will its performance be crippled by bad design? Some people are saying the GPU bandwidth is too low - reminds me of PS2's low texture memory and lack of anti-aliasing.
- the controller. Oh. my. God. And batteries only last 24 hours? Does it have rumble?
- still going to lack a cohesive online system?
- hard drive is not included as standard, so will games use it? Will it have custom soundtracks?

I will get one either way because of the backwards compatibility and key franchises, but it will be interesting to see multi-platform games - how they compare on PS3 to 360. Then we will see if there are design problems crippling the PS3 like the PS2 suffered.

The hardware specs is underwhelming. Sift through the bs and you have absolutely nothing special.

That's like saying that X360's hardware "is nothing special". It's still more powerful than X360, maybe not by a whole lot, but it still is.

I do'nt really like the system design or the controller design. I don't really understand tech stuff, and I was never much of a graphics whore... And like the person said before, it has a lot of great, big name franchises, but very few appeal to me. WarHawk, sign me up, and anything Final Fantasy. But otherwise, I dunno. It's wait and see. I also know I'll never use 4/5ths of all the multimedia stuff it's capable of. I just want to play games. So I'm sorta worried it's gonna be mega-expensive.
