Hey, go read B3D if you don't believe the usual forum junkies over here. Unless there's some stuff going on we can't see, PS3 is going to be seriously bandwidth-limited next gen. Plus, the GPU is nothing to write home about. The "power advantage" is going to come completely from Cell, and the question is "is that enough"?

Regardless, IMO, it's going to be less of a difference than this gen which was, again IMO, almost unnoticable to most casuals.
Um, are you reading the same B3D? The speculation is that there could be bandwidth problems, but no one knows. Why? No one knows if the GPU can read from XDR on its own, or if it'll even need to. Realize it's got its own pool of RAM, and doesn't need to share that with the CPU. There was always speculation that the GPU wouldn't have eDRAM, and I guess that holds up. Without knowing what's actually going on in the GPU, no one knows if there are bandwidth problems or not. Still a big question mark. The only person playing up the "problems" with the PS3 is...you know who it is. Is it suprising? :lol

It'll be interesting to see how it shakes out once details start coming in. Right now it's still an E3 clusterfuck over there. PEACE.

Does anyone have info on what is mandatory for DualDisk? I know some have DVD-A, but I'm not sure if its mandatory to say you comply other than to have CD and DVD-V support (and handle the slight difference in disk depth).

That would be really weird if this was a universal player AND BluRay.

.
.
.

Let me rephrase 'weird' to 'FUCKING AWESOME' if true.

the PS3 controller's great, I have a Playstation ASCII controller with the same circular design and its very comfortable

Although I do reckon CPU and GPU specs are amazing, we all forget the most amazing aspect of the PS3 - 6X BRD-ROM. Say hello to more than acceptable loading/access times. :)

Not having embedded ram didn't seem to hurt the XB1.. :)

I would have liked some EDRAM, but hell for 256MB of video ram I'll live with it.

Bad: No HDD included. Spiderman Font.

Concern: Where's the ports for the memory cards (I'm assuming the front). How will that work with BC? More details! and Controller (I would have to feel it)

Huh?!: Why is there's 3 gigabit ports and 2 HDMI adapters?

Amazing: Everything else. Especially BC, wireless controllers (THAT CAN BE RECHARGED BY USB WHICH IS HUGE!), PSP/PS3 connectivity (Sony will do it better than Nintendo, which was actually fun in a lot of cases imo), console design.

I'm guessing that you'll be able to save to any kind of memory card. It would make sense, what with how Sony is actually providing support for other kinds of flash memory; maybe they're not gonna make us buy proprietary cards anymore. Good move on their part if so, especially for the consumer.

dude, the stated specs are right now roughly 2 6800 ULTRAs. The point I'm trying to make is that it is asinine to spout that PS3 is going to be vastly superior or not, we don't know. There seems to be some sort of generally accepted attitude that PS3 is going to blow x360 away, and from a simple look over the spec sheets it doesn't look that way. And for the record - I find both consoles to be underwhelming. You could actually look at the other posts I've made and figure that out yourself, or you could feel more comfortable with yourself calling me a fanboy and dismissing my argument without having to think about it.

EDIT: :lol . Just watched the gameplay vids. If those are realtime, I'll eat my words and endure all the public humiliation I deserve.

From what I've seen IÂ’m pretty impressed.

Though that controller looks really awkward. I'd like for Sony to redesign it but thats not their style, eventually they will just tell us all to take our controller complaints and shove them up our asses, literally

After seeing those first few screenshots of DMC, Killzone, and Warhawk, I was slightly underwhelmed. But after watching the demo reel on Gamespot: Holy shit. Now THAT is next-gen. Way to go, Sony. And not only did the PS3 games look better than 360's, they were all running at smooth framerates (hint, hint, MS).

BTW, does any site have video of the EyeToy water demo? I don't want to have to watch the whole press conference on Gamespot.

Came out with a bang. Microsoft looks pathetic IMO.

The system itself: Adequate, not overly sexy like I was expecting.
Controller: WTF?
The games: Perfect. And thats what matters.

I still think Nintendo can match this (hope?)

As of now- PS3 is winning for CrisKre. Bigtime.

I don't care what anyone says, I think the PS3 graphics look fucking amazing. I think we are going to get games that are going to blow our minds. I hope Nintendo get do similar things. Imagine Wind Waker type graphics on something this powerful??

My guess: Memory Stick will replace Memory cards and the PS3 will be able to use "virtual" memory cards for PS1 and PS2 the same way PS1 emulators use "virtual" cards. Don't know how game saves could be transfered though...

The console is kinda ugly IMO, but contrary to popular opinion, I rather like the controller. Don't know anything about the specs yet... this is actually the first thread I looked in, so I'm almost an E3 '05 virgin.

Yeah... imagine TWW with waves that look like this:

instead of the crude "sine curve" waves that were in the GC version.

not to mention they still have how long to change the specs and make it better

Sony...sony...sony?!? Take your time don't let Microsoft rush you. The system looks ugly. The controller looks ugly. What happened to the psp style of sexYness. I can't go by renders or so called real time tech demos{sony's mo}; so I'm not too impressed.

I was moderately impressed by the screens although I haven't watch the videos yet

A little disappointed that the main RAM wasn't 512MB although not sure if 2 x 256MB is technically better or worse

Designwise - I've seen better from Sony and that's what is disappointing

I'm hoping the console and controller design are prototypes 'for show' since we are a good year from release and everything looks a little generic and lazy

Also they changed the Playstation font (again). Not sure why and again I hope its temporary.

No word on next gen Eyetoy (I was hoping that would be built in) and no built-in HDD either which I think would have worked really well with Eyetoy for mapping faces etc.

I just checked out some screenshots of various PS3 games, and after all the commenting on how the graphics destroy anything shown on the 360, I'm very underwhelmed. I don't see anything that clearly bests Gears of War, Kameo, or Ninety-Nine Nights. Seems to me the two machines are for all practical purposes equal.

If those demos from the conference are actually real-time then I'm sold. The Xbox360 stuff I've seen so far just pales in comparison.

has anyone said if the xbox demo's were real time or not?

After having seen the Press Conference full length, I can only say.. I dont know, there are no words that can express how impressed I am by the PS3.

THIS is what I have been dreaming of, and NOW I want to KISS Kutaragi and that nVidia guy. So leave me be! :D

WELL THAT ABOUT WRAPS IT UP FOR MS VS SONY. SONY WINS!!!

tremendous images and you know what?! You can fucking tell from the fucking screens that they're all fucking ingame. Non of that artist impression shit that X360 imagery has been for the last week or so. Everything I've seen for PS3 absoltely and completely owns the stuff coming out on X360 (except GR3, PGR3 and GOW). But two of those titles are multi platform.

fix that ugly console shell (dunno about the controller - might be really comfy). AND YOU'D HAVE A PERFECT CONSOLE.

Sony have completely blown me away in a good way and a bad way. I never expected them to have their big exclusive titles already in development. No one can complain about what Sony will have on offer. What they have shown us is only the beginning. Unfortunately they let themselves down with the worst controller I have ever seen. It looks so ugly and uncomfortable. After I saw the X360 controller I was thrilled because it looked very comfortable, however, the PS3 contoller is horrid. The console has a very slick design though, I really like it, too bad the contoller is shit.

Don't be fooled, the PS3 was sick. It was all real-time. They even did this crazy rubber duck demo. Yikes. It works off a new EyeToy. They had a tub with a lot of water and a rubber ducky in it. Then the EyeToy inventor came out holding a green cup and a blue cup. Wherever he moved the cups, two digital glasses on the screen would move around the gameworld. So he has two real glasses and they are translated into two digital cups that he could dip into the bath tub (which was governed by real physics) and then realistically pour water into each of the cups. The bathtub water even waved realistically. It helped that everything being shown was running in 720p."

ign. editor. That's FULLY SICK. I am blown over over and over. Loved the screens. This CoNSOLE is going to bitch slap everyone else. I don't even think Nintendo can pull off anything remotely capable of matching.

NIntendo should work for SONY. End of Story. And MS while we're at that.

ONE CONSOLE FUTURE. I BELIEVE IN YOU.

All I have to say is... FUCK DIMINISHING RETURNS. ITS FALSE (for now)

Remember when we saw DOA4, Perfect Dark 0, Tiger Woods Golf, etc ,etc and thought is that an Xbox game?

Not ONCE did I even fathom those PS3 offerings were anything but next-gen material.

Also question, they said Spring of 2006... does that include U.S.?????????????????

I saw the sony press conference, and some words cannot descibe the power of the PS3. It seems amazing! Gotta love the killzone footage.

Man... those third party controller manufacturers are going to have a hard time making the stock controller any worse looking. Hell, this might be the first time where I actually purchase one.

So, uh, any word on KB/Mouse support for games? Specifically FPS'ses ... es. They gotta use all that USB / bluetooth for something.

IGN seems to think they were all real-time (at least, that's how it's worded), so...yeah. I guess we don't know for certain, though.

As far as the B3d forums: hey, those guys can speculate about bandwidth all they want, but the proof is in the pudding -- what I saw today was very, very impressive...moreso than what I've seen on the 360.

I'd recommend viewing the videos as well, but if you still have the same opinion, no big deal. Actually, that's probably better for you if you can't tell any difference -- a theoretically weaker 360 version of a multiplatform game wouldn't be an issue for you.

For the record, though, the two machines are definitely not equals.

Obviously not everything looks as good as the Killzone screens (what the hell is up with that Sega game?) but overall I'm impressed. Unlike Xbox 360 this feels like next gen. Now I don't doubt for a moment that Xbox 360 can do quite a bit better than what has been shown so far but as far as first impressions are concerned, Sony has clearly won.

That controller though... ugh!

Can you all get over the uGLY Ps3 controller? Who knows, it might be the best thing ever to hold - we're all seeing it from this orthographic view so who knows.

GET OFF THE CONTROLLER + CONSOLE FORM FACTOR. ITS ALL ABOUT THE GAMES.

... some of you guys are way too focused on the bad looking 360 titles. The best 360 stuff looks every bit as good as the best PS3 stuff, from what I've seen.

I hate to say it, but watching this Press conference, Sony has TOTALLY given me that "OMGWTFBBQ" feeling...the same I had back when I first read the PS2 specs and saw the tech demos...and again when I got my Dreamcast on launch day(Soul Calibur!!!). This thing is so powerful and so feature rich it's ridiculous. I WILL be making it my business to totally upgrade my room to prepare for it's purchase next year.

I still want to get an XBOX360, and I can't wait to see Ninty's Press conference tomorrow, but Sony really does know how to make the heart of my inner electronics whore jump!.

I dont know if its spring 2006 for NA, but if it is, I will so fucking happy that I would probably run out on the streets naked.

I really want to know what MS were thinking when they were doing their press conference. They did nothing that could compete with Sony apart from Gears Of War! I want to see what Nintendo will have. I doubt they could come close to waht Sony have done, unless they announce Mario, Super Smash Bros, Mario Kart, Metroid Prime 3, Zelda for GC and rev (which i believe is a possability) and some exclusive 3rd party games. Thre is probably a 1/1,000,000 chance that it would happen, but no one guessed Sony would have done what they did at their conference.

My impression after seeing that Killzone video - Holy fucking shit.

Add that to all the game announcements, the capabilities of the console, and the BC with PS2 and PS1 = game over.

This will be the first Playstation system I buy, and I probably will get it at launch. Hell, I don't care if I'm playing mostly PS2 games for a while, if Killzone 2 and GTA4 come out at or near launch, I'll be a happy man.

As for the controller, sure it looks like a massive sex toy, but does anyone know how it feels? Hopefully, it feels better than it looks. The console doesn't look too hot either though. I don't really care. I'm finally going to jump on the Sony bandwagon this gen. I hope Nintendo decides to as well - that would be a revolution. ONE CONSOLE FUTURE.

I think you need Alien hands for the controller... that thing is going to suck BIG time for the FPS games... if the PS3 gets any decent ones..

Wait, to clarify, is there any confirmation on HDD? whether it's in or not.

I'm getting mixed news everywhere re: that.

Also more and more I look at the console design, more and more I love it (especially the black colour, which hopefully will be there at launch).

Also more and more I look at the controller, more and more I'm starting to loath it.

THE GOOD:

Feature packed! Wow, I can't believe how much stuff Sony is packing into this console, how much is it going to cost anyway?

Power, if all those images are real-time then both MS and Nintendo may as well pack their bags.

THE BAD:

Sequelitis, it seems like we have gone back to the PS2 unveiling, only the numbers in the franchises are higher.

No online plans, yet! Sony can't keep ignoring Live for long, especially with Nintendo about to come out with its own network plans and Squeenix coming to XBox 360

Console design, it's not horrible, but it looks like someone began redesigning the PS2 case and gave up halfway, slot loading is a plus though.

THE UGLY:

What the hell is up with this controller? It looks like something Batman would give Catwoman to amuse herself with while he's out of town.

So overall, an extremely impressive, feature packed, super powered console, but it feels to be more of the same for Sony, I hope they have some more gameplay innovations down the line other than just EyeToy.

I will be buying this console.

Yes, I'm grasping at straws.

It's not huge...it's STURDY!!

Yes, controller needs work, system's fine.

The fight for 2nd place begins here.

(Go Nintendo!)
