Re-read what you just typed....

That’s like saying ‘why do video games have to be bloody and violent? These are electronic toys made for kids.’

No. It would be like if the next Mario game had lots of bloody violence in it. It's a character for kids. Make it for that audience.

There's a segment of people who grew up with the comics/cartoons as kids and now insist that those characters should still be aimed at them and only them. Let kids have those characters. You can still enjoy the stories that get told for them in the same way you can enjoy a new Mario game. You don't need to exclude the people they are meant for.

Can you link me some movies please ? Would love to watch them. And he's not dark, he's more grounded in the real world that's it.

The original version of this justice league film had a "what if Superman was bad" section with him fighting the rest of the Justice League. The Injustice games are built around that idea. That Brightburn film was about that idea without it being officially Superman. Here's an article listing versions of evil Superman. It's not a new idea.

Also Snyder already did a dark superhero "deconstruction" movie in Watchmen.

Looks fun, I'm in.

I quite liked the Joss Whedon version in a tacky popcorn flick kind of way tho, but the higher age rating and extra CGI time could go a long way to improve it. Hope it's not too obvious when it cuts between original scenes and the newly filmed stuff.

Tag, you're it.

Sorry but I am talking about movies mostly. Superman exist since so long, OF COURSE evil Superman has been done.
And Brightburn ...? Really ?! That is the movie you choose ? That crap was meh at best and I don't want a Superman randomly killing innocent people for no reason.
I'm not saying that "THE IDEA" is new but we havent seen a Superman like that in any movie and I like it.

The thing is there’s already precedent that has been set with comic books. I grew up with Dark Knight Returns, The Long Halloween, Killing Joke. All aimed at adults with very mature themes. Heck the animated adaptation of the Killing Joke was rated R.

It’s not us wanting these properties that we grew up to still be aimed at us. They were not aimed at us in the first place. The runs done by Frank Miller, Dennis O’Neil, Alan Moore were all written with an adult reader in mind. I don’t think my parents would have approved of 9 year old me reading The Killing Joke but since comics have always had that stigma of being for kids I was able to get away with it 😆

I just think is a great time to be alive to be able to finally see these mature stories and very mature subject matter go beyond the pages of the comics.

This film is the direct sequel in every way to Batman V Superman, and like that film, it will be adored by a small minority of Zack Snyder fans, hated by a much wider audience of comic book movie fans, and forgotten about in less than a week by everyone else. I’m looking forward to watching it as a big DC nerd, but I still don’t really know why they bothered.

Moore has specifically talked about how he regrets writing Killing Joke and the legacy it has had. What are your thoughts on that?

They were absolutely aimed at kids in the first place.

These are for kids.

This film is the highest profile version of these characters that DC/Warner Bros has at the moment. And it excludes the original target audience it was intended for. That's strange.

I'm not so sure that's going to be that successful for them, to be honest. They need to pull in a hell of a lot of people who want to subscribe to pay for the seventy million they've laid out. Is there really that big a potential audience for a director's cut of a film everyone hated four years ago? I know the Snyder fans are very vocal on social media, but how many actually are there?

I think seventy million spent on a brand new, stand alone series of a DC character would have been a better spend.

Looks better than the awful Whedon version but that's not exactly saying much. Don't really have high hopes but I'm still intrigued to see how this whole thing goes.

We all regret things we’ve done and he is entitled to feeling regret in writing that. It does not change the fact that what he created was published, continues to be published, and is very influential and loved by such a large fan base.

Yes those comics created over 60 years ago were made for kids. That’s a silly argument though. By that token entertainment should never evolve. Mickey Mouse should have stayed black and white. Ninja Turtles should have stayed in black and white and never been toned down for mass market. The original satire of the comics industry in the turtles comics was most definitely not aimed at the 5 year olds that were running around screaming turtle power.

I'm not saying Mickey Mouse should only be black and white. I'm saying it would be strange if Disney's main version of Mickey Mouse killed people in graphic ways.

True. Bad comparison on my part.

Bottom line is this is one of many different versions of the character created and published by DC. We’ve had Batman & Robin in 97 aimed at kids, this aimed at adults, and many versions in between.

Just ignore him Watchmen and Man of Steel was great movie but people like him will never admit it
There's actually a lot to criticize its writing for, Superman destroying the Kryptonian embryos, Zod's motivations, Jonathan Kent very questionable morals, Zod wanting to terraform earth to avoid the 20 min of pain that grants superpowers, all the avoidable deaths through negligence of Superman's choices(going to Indian ocean world engine first instead of the Metropolis one, fighting in populated areas)

lol you could tell they told jared to stop using heath ledgers voice and make up his own like joaquin phoenix did

they also figured to go with long hair joker like joaquin phoenix did

what a tangled mess and this looks dull

I never liked how they went with the realism in man of steel and shoehorned in dcu Into it with stupid magic and fantasy. They ruined what could have been some good superman standalone movies with their obsession trying to chase marvel.

This steppenwolf was some
Magical big bad that turns out to be nothing more than a jobber for superman.

This movie is shit.

Don't worry. We're probably going to get a JJ Abrams Superman movie. And if you want to know how bad that can be, look up Superman: Flyby.

Give this a look. Good video!

I'm glad this is finally coming out. Even if it's not a great film, I'll just be happy if it's a better film than what Whedon gave us, especially with a moustache-less Superman, a better A/V presentation and Junkie XL killing it with the score.

Not expecting this to be the next great superhero movie, but Joss Whedon did such a terrible job on the original JL that I just want to see what Snyder's original vision was, good or bad. Also, in a year where so many movies have already been delayed to who knows when, I'll take what I can get at this point.
