SPOILER THREAD BELOW!

So yeah, I think we need one of these...

YOU'VE BEEN WARNED!

So I was not expecting the movie to basically be a message to manchildren. Took me by surprise and I thought it was very well done. Sure parents can see a bit of themselves in the third act.

Well, the message was less about berating them for still using Lego, and more about lightening up and letting others be creative.

In any case, the movie as a whole was great. Definitely one of the best toy/game-based movies, and that's due to actually addressing the fundamental principles upon which the product is based. The humor is great too, so that's always a plus.

I was in hysterics over the fact that of all movie-based Lego lines to show in that split-second montage, they chose Speed Racer.

I didn't expect it to get so dark. Cuckoo world getting destroyed was pretty poignant, and Allison Brie as Unikitty did an amazing job there.

On a completely different note, I still have Everything Is Awesome stuck in my head.

So is there a known reason why Harrison Ford was the only Star Wars actor not to sit in front of a mic for 10 minutes for the quick cameo? They got Daniels and Williams, so no Ford came off as odd.

Her reaction in the sub was kind of heat breaking. Love the different ways they put her body together

Nick Offerman did a surprisingly good job as Metalbeard. Didn't recognize him for a good ten minutes after he first started speaking. Likewise, Liam Neeson was hilarious, but that was mostly because he played it straight.

Favorite jokes:
- Metalbeard's attempt to do something the bad guys wouldn't expect. (Anyone know what song that was?)
- "Spaceship!"
- Ghost Vitruvius

Think my favorite bits were...

The welcome to Cloud Cuckoo land (Batman's "I hate this place..." as well as Unikitty's randomness.

spaceship, Spaceship, SPACESHIP!!! Benny was just so happy.

You Suck Green Lantern (they could have gone for the easy Aquaman target, but no).

Emmet assembling the mech.

I thought ME NAME BE METALBEARD was cool, the LEGO ocean was awesome, the Shaq "*music* Aww man, he was ready for that!" was funny. "Spaceship!" was funny and I liked that the chin strap was broken and the space emblem paint on Benny's chest was fading (I think), quite realistic. :p

I didn't think the movie was saying "manchildren" are bad, more that it was saying to not be SO set in your ways that you forget different kinds of creativity can still be good, and you should not shut down imagination.

Can I go ahead and start documenting the various literary and movie references that we were deluged with?

I read about Vitruvius being the first architect (literally translates to "master" and "builder") that has any kind of historical - wrote the first ten books on architecture. He claimed architecture was based on man's attempt to copy nature, and ultimately the greatest natural design: the human being.

The title card between Vitruvius' prophecy and seeing Emmett for the first time was a direct reference to the classic film, 8 1/2... I just don't know how that fits yet. Any ideas?

I love how Batman was self-centered the whole time. And the cameos. I lost it at the Star Wars bit and the Duplo bit at the end.

Plus, Charlie Day was awesome as always.

Seeing Unikitty saying to bottle up all negative feelings, it was only a matter of time before she completely loses it.

Honestly, I was expecting her to try to kill Emmett, or at least snap at him, when she saw her home being destroyed. But I'm surprised she handled the pressure long enough until the last battle scene when she pretty much said "screw it" (actually, she said forget it, but yeah) and went rabid.

As for the twist near the end, I'll admit it dragged a little, but because the real world did have an emotional link to the Lego world, I didn't complain at all.

C'mon, no one's going to say "He's the hero you deserve" as another blatant reference?? TDK was a WB movie as well!

If the cameo's had one flaw it's that they didn't get Disney to play ball. Even just including Marvel and other Disney characters in the Master Builder meeting would have been nice to see.

The look on the lego man's face as he built the croissant wheel, immediately followed up by the whole "SPACESHIP" thing. I was in tears.

Loved a lot of the jokes everyone else has been bringing up, and also got a good chuckle out of "He is the hero you deserve" from Batman.

I forgot about that part :lol I think this movie deserves a second viewing to catch all the quick-cut references.

This is one of the immediate thoughts I had. This is definitely a film we'll all love even more when we can slow things down and appreciate all the little things. Can't wait.

There were several people who just attached wheels to things in succession that had me in tears as well.

The fact that the whole universe was just a kid playing with his dad's lego worlds was well telegraphed. All the animals just used human voices to say 'meow' or 'oink' out loud, Metalbeard's ship was powered by a kid putting his lips together and saying 'BRLPLBRLPLBRLPL,' the Micromanagers were all the kid imitating Will Ferrel's voice in baby talk, the artifacts were largely things confiscated from the kid because they damage plastics.

I enjoyed the fact that Liam Neeson voiced Good Cop, Bad Cop and his mom and dad.

I said this in the Rotten Tomatoes thread, but I absolutely loved the Clone High reference with Will Forte as the voice of Abe Lincoln. <3

What I like most about it is looking back, yeah its pretty obvious but the first go around I just accepted it as Phil and Chris' sense of humor after their previous films and show.

I would prefer if Will Ferrel and son moment was trimmed out a bit (or cut out entirely). The moment when Emmet began to shake, I'd definitely take that out.

Bring on the Duplo War.

edit: Also the kid is uber Lego Master. How do you come up with Mecha Pirate?

I don't like the real world segment. It dragged on for too long.

I still like Wreck it Ralph better.

Also Elizabeth Bank, her voice job was weak. Batman OTOH was awesome! Also Morgan Freeman was really funny, I didn't know he had this in him.

This movie has crzay amount of out of focus effect. Like every "lens" they use has a 1cm thin depth of field.

I would agree Banks was the weakest voice in the cast. She just didn't seem to get into it like the others.

Morgan Freeman was brilliant as always, especially with his more humors lines.

Chris Pratt and Charlie Day both did great at their happy go lucky characters, Pratt even nailing the somber moments.

Will Arnett was a great choice for Batman, I don't think it would have been as funny had they tried to get Conroy.

Alison Brie was probably the highlight of the voice cast as Princess Unikitty. Nailing both the wacky parts and going full on feels with the destruction of her home.

Even the rest of the supporting cast with Metalbeard, Superman, Green Lantern and the Star Wars folks all did great (who wasn't happy to hear Billy Dee Williams out of nowhere).

I honestly hope Brie does some more VA work after this.

For some reason I had a big laugh when I saw a Lego Speed Racer set appearing when all of the different universes were shown. I also hope the numbers of each block when seen through Master Builder vision are the actual serial numbers in real life.
