Graphics look great, but I was hoping for more than what seems to be a third person cover shooter

Please elaborate what a '3rd person cover shooter' should be?

Honestly, please to those who are saying its just another 3rd person shooter, what are you guys expecting? It not be a 3rd person cover shooter? Maybe it somehow becomes a 1st person shooter? Should the genre be ended because we have seen so many 3rd person shooters?

Anyways, will see how the whole thing looks tomorrow. For me its the atmosphere/setting/visuals which is making it special. If the gameplay is as good as UC/TLOU, I will be really happy. I have feeling I will not be disappointed.

When did hit markers become a thing in single player games? It needs to stop what ever the case is.

Whether I'm hitting a player controlled character or and NPC, I like to know that I hit them, especially at distance. They serve a purpose in the absence of accurate animation or clear visual feedback such as torn clothes or blood.

The animation here is really something else. You can see his feet move and whole body adjust to the shift in momentum and the way the clothes move is spot on.

He's not saying you can only draw positive ones. He's saying that you can only comment on the look of the game, because that's all you're able to reliably ascertain from these screenshots and gifs. What you're talking about re the "same information" stuff is if you make a comment that the game looks bad and someone else comments that the game looks great. That's fair enough. What isn't really reasonable is to take the "same information" - a few short gifs - and extrapolate whether the actual gameplay itself is going to be interesting, because you aren't equipped with anything close to the amount of knowledge required to make even the humblest of guesses. That's not the case with the visuals.

you cant have objective beauty, sorry, and that is precisely what he was arguing.

Because you can look at the footage and say it is beautiful.

this is his inelegant way of saying "you cant not like these graphics"

for the record i am quicker to judge the gameplay on display than the graphics which i think look great.

Let's break this down to make it very simple:

Graphics/Art

- We see enough to know that at these moments (and those in previous media releases), it looks very impressive
- We don't see enough to know it looks very impressive all the time

Mechanics

- We see enough to know that there's familiar TPS gameplay mechanics
- We don't see enough to know what unique mechanics there are, but we've heard about some
If it looks like Gears to them in 2-4 seconds, then it looks like Gears to them in 2-4 seconds. You will have a hard time convincing someone that something doesn't look like what they think it looks like, especially in a genre as homogenous as this one tends to be overall.

Trying to dispel what is a subjective reading of 2-4 seconds of footage is very arduous, ESPECIALLY with the knowledge that more Order will be coming in 24 hours to defend itself.

And I can tell you one thing it doesn't look like... Vanquish! ;P

I was just saying you could make a great shooter that people would like without having to resort to implementing cover.

But that would take a bunch of time and thought into creating the levels so you are right that those aren't priorities for developers in this day & age.

RAD obviously wanted to take advantage of soft body physics that could alter the environment, that wouldn't be as gameplay effecting if you didn't need to use cover. Its also hilarious that you think creating a game around not using cover is much harder, as it was done many times before cover based shooters became popular.

Yea, about the goddamn graphics, which you know - is discernible from the footage.
Want to point me to that 1 frame where it explains every single aspect of the gameplay, features and everything?

I can see the graphics are good, but I still haven't seen anything that has made me personally excited for the game. The hype surrounding this game even before 2 second snippets of gameplay were released was freaking insane, and it was all for the graphics? It's something I don't really understand.

This looks like any of the other dozens of third person cover shooters from the previous gen, only with better graphics. I know, it's a 5 second gif and none of the others show much more gameplay wise besides QTEs and cinematics. But, if I were making videos/gifs to showcase a new game, I would not show a generic run to cover + pop and shoot.
It's almost as if embargoes are set for a reason.

No. You can say it is hideous if you want to. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. The people that say the graphics are impressive are making that judgement based off of screenshots and gifs. People are making gameplay assumptions off 4 seconds of footage. I believe the press saw 20-40 minutes of gameplay. The GI and translated french magazine have already given greater detail on the gameplay. Some people are ignoring that and calling the game generic without enough information to support that claim.

Graphics are huge parts of games what is hard to understand ?

Not everyone wants to live a life of constant negativity and scrutiny, being excited is fun.
Its a new gen, this is a new IP - it LOOKs visually impressive, why can't people be excited? Christ.

Where do I pre order?

No joke. I don't even need to see the full video. From the info posted and gifs thus far... Day 1. No questions asked.

That's the point it's completely unnecessary, that's what graphics are for to provide feedback to the player of what's happening through effects and animations. If you can't tell your making hits then game is not doing it's job and there are times in which you shouldn't know if you landed a hit or not or if the target is dead.

Hit markers only exist because of lag problems that sometimes arise in a competitive environment and have ZERO purpose in a single player game. Metro LL had some of the worst ever you couldn't even turn off with out hardcore mode.

I think it looks okay. Not mind-blowing. I mean that in regards to both the graphics and gameplay.

However, I've been "meh" on this game since it was announced. I want to like it, but I still need to see more.

All of that said: Awesome job by Ready At Dawn to go from PSP titles to one of the best-looking games on PS4. I wonder how much their team had to increase...

pray tell what type of assumption is being made here?

The setting and a talented dev finally getting a go at a new IP and non-heldheld title are big parts of it too.

You would have to ask that poster. That poster could be going off of the information from articles. That poster could be excited by the graphics alone. That poster could be going off of Shinobi's information. There are tons of possibilities.

People are free to be down on the game. I'm just saying to assume you know the game from 4 seconds is presumptuous.

Graphics are huge parts of games what is hard to understand .

I just don't find myself being able to relate to those who get extremely excited over something they know barely anything about. Sure the initial trailer looked like it had some promise and looked nice technically, but it wasn't enough for me to try and crash NeoGaf over.

Gun play looks kinda twitchy and jank, but graphics looks sweet I guess. It's a gif though, so it's stupid to pass decisive judgment either way.

I don't see a problem with people getting excited for a game over a few gifs. It's not like this is the first time that we're hearing about the game. We know the general premise, we've gotten little sneak peeks into the possible characters, we've seen what a part of the world looks like and we've heard several positive impressions from people who have seen the game in action.

Now that we actually get to see the game itself in action (albeit in little 5-second snippets), I think the hype derived is a cathartic accumulation of what the previous reveals have built up to. Also, the game looks beautiful in motion and that's only going to fuel the excitement, not lessen it..

Gunplay looks a bit sluggish, and not really impressed with the graphics. Need more FOV as well. Will wait for tomorrow's trailer unveil.
