Well, look on the bright side. If the movie ends up being poorly received critically and commercially, like it is shaping up to be, there is a good chance they will sell the rights back to Disney/Marvel. The only bad thing is that it will have to be so bad that it does irreversible damage to the Fantastic Four brand that a new film would not be feasible for many years.

Hahaha that was the part that made me laugh the most. A grounded Fantastic Four is EXACTLY what the world wants.

The Realistic Four are here to save the day. Eventually, because traffic is really bad and they drive a realistic car.

Basically. If it's a huge trainwreck I wonder if Marvel has the legal power to stop it. Don't they still need to approve certain things since they still have their name attached to it, and it's ultimately their property? A fucking shitty FF movie damages the image of the comics as well.

Yeah, I would think with the power of Disney lawyers behind them now, they might have a case regarding brand image and or misrepresenting their agreement in good faith. But I dunno, I'm now lawyer.

Who cares of them. What we only really need are the side characters (Doom, Galactus, Silver Surfer). Fuck Richards and his crew.

Yep, but I WOULD like to see a proper F4 movie done eventually. But that's definitely the priority here. Not the titular characters themselves but all the characters tied to them.

It would be awkward to introduce Doctor Doom without the Fantastic Four. Not to mention that it is already sad enough that we are getting cosmic threats to the marvel universe without Fantastic Four. It would also suck to get a Civil War and/or World War Hulk without the Fantastic Four. I am already bummed enough as it is that we are getting Ultron (and sort of Ant-Man) without Hank Pym.

Well, the guy who directed Chronicle is also directing this... so I have a little bit of hope.

ehhh it was okay...

the writers are going to fuck this up, and I'm not feeling the cast. Then again I'm not invested in this series so I already could care less how it fairs.

The uneasiness of Kate Mara in that interview is hilarious. It's very grounded.

Its something I am surprised by. You would think Fox's PR people would have told them to say "I can't really comment on that right now" or something.

I mean, yeah, this is a junket for a different movie by another studio, but still.

If she said "um" one more time I was going to reach through the screen and slap her so her that all of her ridiculous unkempt hair would fall out

Also, everything she said screams, um, train wreck.

Lol, Fantastic.

Edit: After having listened to that, holy shit. She hasn't seen the script, hasn't read the comics (she read a few?). I can forgive the no costume thing, that's not a big deal. Very interesting indeed.

Not having tried on a final costume is no big deal. Not even knowing if there IS a costume is a pretty big fucking deal, for a number of reasons, but primary among them being they would need to do fitting and measurements for the costume before making the costume which should clue her in to the fact there is a costume coming.

Or she's a complete moron.

Said this a long time back: what would be the feasibility for Disney to covertly sabotage or stall this production so that the rights revert? Reclaiming FF would be a huge get for their expanded universe. Not saying this is very likely, but there is a lot of money at stake here.

I wonder how much it would cost just to buy the rights back. If Fox is just going to shit a movie out to hold the rights, maybe Disney should just write a check.

I'm sure FOX is hoping that is what will happen. Disney won't even think about it though this close to the deadline. Provided this movie actually gets made, after it bombs is the time when Disney would come in with a lowball sales number.

I do hope Marvel can get the rights back...it'd be weird for the MCU to start dealing more and more with these cosmic level threats and the F4 isn't around to help.

I think they'd ask an insane amount. We might be at the peak of the comic book movie bubble and Marvel movies making massive money may have the same effect Call of Duty has on game devs. "Hey, we have our own shooter franchise, let's pump more resources into it!" presented along with Powerpoint slides about how if it got half the sales of CoD (realistic!) they'll all be millionaires.

I'm looking at this from the other side of the coin. It would be weird for the MCU not to have cosmic level threats like Galactus, Annihilus, Skrulls, Dr. Doom, the Shi'ar etc. They can keep the FF for all I care. Give us the villains.

Exactly. If Marvel gets the rights back that is the primary thing they will use it for. I doubt they would want to make a F4 film any time soon.

The fact that Marvel were happy for Fox to keep Daredevil in return for getting Galactus & Surfer back kinda tells you where their priorities lie.

They've got Annihilus as well ffs. If this shit somehow get's made the dream of an Annihilation movie is dead.

They could just end up skipping straight to Annihilation: Conquest given that they already plan on introducing Ultron anyway. Granted the plot would need major changes for multiple reasons. (No Annihilation War preceding it, several key characters would need introduction, would the Kree even be part of the MCU given that Ronan is an ally of Thanos in GotG?)

Kree were namedropped on Agents of SHIELD.

I am optimistic for this movie as the past ones were pretty shitty, However casting of the main cast seems awful.

My comic knowledge is limited but I know the brother and sister are biological, the stretchy guy is an older graying gentleman and the Thing a middle aged ex-cop?

Or does this take place in one of the what-if/alternate universes I have no knowledge of.

Ronan is still a Kree. There are Kree in GotG/the MCU. I am also guessing that Ronan is not going to be an "ally to Thanos" after this first GotG film.

I think they're taking inspiration from when Ultimate Fantastic Four first started, Reed (stretchy guy) is a rather young genius in that one

I wonder if they're gong to take ultimate fantastic four story direction as well since that is pretty wild, lol. spoiler just in case

in Ultimate Fantastic Four, Reed
become super villain, The Thing rock skin come off and he become human again with some purple energy power thing, he also end up dating Sue Storm

I only keep up with the MCU films so the events of Agents of SHIELD are something I don't really follow, so this is news to me!

Gotcha, I didn't know Kree were already introduced and I assumed that due to Ronan being a villain working for Thanos, that the Kree weren't going to be a focus in the films.

You see what maybe a kree corpse in agent of shield

FF x Xmen is too messy right now. Neither of the two properties have been "killing it" like that lately and the last thing you need to do is possibly fuck up the mainstream appeal of both of them in one movie.
