Gentlemen, we can rebuild it. We have the capability to make the world's first enhanced store. Steam will be that store. Better than it was before.
When it comes to stuff like this, Valve knows what they are doing. Their focus with the community marketplace is trying to maintain each item's value as much as possible, since they get a percentage cut. They treat it like most game companies would a virtual (in-game) economy.
Which is why I'm surprised that their marketplace still lacks a lot of basic features.
eBay found this out a long time ago - the easier you make the transaction process, the more money you'll make from that percentage.
