PROJECT BEAST (PS4, From Software/SCE Japan Studio) - First WebMs [Port beg = ban.]

Port begging: "damn, I wish this was on a console I own" = bad

Board begging: "can I please get on that train." (x30 pages) = A Ok

Now I'm a Sony guy so I'm not bitter, I just find it funny which posts are acceptable. Of course the salty "anti-this, I want that" posts are lame.

Which reminds me... where is dat train?
It's transformed into a demon and gone on a hype rampage.

The hype and talk about this game is like nothing I've ever seen before
It is something of a perfect storm. The Souls games are like the antidote to 'cinematic' games, and the ever growing hand holding of series' which were once challenging. All the community/online aspects are perfect for breeding dedicated fans. Now we have the mystery of the 'A team' having been busy with this. It helps that Sony's riding high too.

The reaction has certainly been substantial, but it's also expected I think.

Despite having closely followed the development/opinions etc. about dark souls 1 & 2, I have yet to play either. So why am I so hyped about this game?
Because you're easily influenced?

Definitely check out one of the Dark Souls games asap, they're terrific.

Hey now. I look forward to this just as much as AC:Unity and Uncharted 4. Just as much.

Aww yeah it's good to be fucking back from my ban. Missed so much shit here on GAF, couldn't post, was ripping my hair out at some of the posts regarding stuff that happened recently.

Boarding on the motherfucking beats souls hype train!

graphics don't look that good considering it's co-developed with Sony and we have seen what the PS4 is capable of

Dayyum, both the 1st and this Project Beast thread have more views than any Dark Souls 2 thread. People want their Miyazaki directed, Sony co-developed one true heir to Demon's Souls!

Graphics will be fine, these are low Res screens. Souls games are known to scale pretty well with resolution so if the assets are little improved, the PS4 hardware should help it really shine at 1080p.

I look forward to the inevitable FFVII remake hype thread(s).
There should never be a FFVII remake, too many people would die out of sheer excitement. People just throw around the meme, mainly because most think it would never happen, but that is exactly why it shouldn't happen. The amount of people that would be thrown into shock would number in the millions. No one really believes it will ever come, so just imagine what would happen if it really did. Forget breaking gaf's servers, the entire net would break.

The design of Shaving Solomon is good, I don't think I'd mind if they went with him as the player character and left customization up to his skills and weapons.

I'm sure it'll look fine, I think when people are down on Demon's Souls graphics, they forget the time it came out. Compared to it's peers, and given the scope, it looked pretty great.

Even though FFVI was still the superior game. By a wide margin.

It is for those that grew up on gaming in the early 80s and 90s.

I did, and I don't feel that way. It's not like someone is forcing you to play those games, there's a lot more to choose from nowadays, from indie to AAA. There's a place for everyone.

The Souls' series scratches an itch that Uncharted or GTA can't, and vice-versa applies as well.

The crazy hype on this thread got me interested too, even though I have never played any of the "previous" games and know next to nothing about them. Which one is a better to start with, Demon's Souls or Dark Souls? I usually hate "hard" games and I get frustrated extremely easily, so I doubt they'll be for me, but I guess it will be worth a try...

I guess they are not the best graphically?

Can't they just play the original FFVII? Same for Halo and TLOU. It's weird that people treat a remake of a still-perfectly-playable oldie as some epic event. Maybe gamers are getting old and just want the same stuff.

I would say go for Demon's first. The hub nature is good cause you can always go back and try a different world if you're stuck, and you can carry a shit ton of healing items,if needed. Not saying this in an offending way, mind you! I'm just saying that it's probably better to start from the game where it all started, as Dark Souls' builds upon that foundation. Some things are easier (practically no limit for healing items or magic uses, hub world makes it easier to explore without getting lost) while some are harder (weight limit, some bosses are nasty, world 5 is worse than blighttown imo).

Some bosses are a bit hard for new players (more than Dark Souls, imo) but you'll be fine if you are a patient person. The game isn't "hard"..it just punishes impatience and recklessness. If you keep an eye out for trouble, don't try to fight 3 enemies at once and don't heal like crazy in the middle of a fight (make sure you have the time to do it first) you'll be fine..

An FFVII remake, with a proper graphical upgrade, would melt this forum.

Then again, an FFVII remake that doesn't meet expectations would probably also melt this forum, but with hate.

For a FROM Software game, the graphics look amazing to me. Demon's Souls looks pretty bad compared to this.

Just give me this in 1080p, good AA and a locked framerate (60 should be brilliant) and I'll be happy.

The difficulty is a little overstated. There is definitely a steep learning curve before you "get it". Just go in knowing the first 3-5 hours is simply an investment in your gaming skills and the game will open up to you. Eventually you get to a summit and the game feels like you are running downhill and crushing everything.

Pick any game to start, they are all great.

I wonder if Sony would request From to do a 1080P version of Demon's souls for PS4.

Remastered versions of last gen games seems to be the rage these days.

OK, thanks. I'll pick up a used copy and give it a shot.

I'll keep that in mind. Thanks. :)

Souls games harken back to an era where Japanese games were at their peak. In the early 2000's you couldn't go a month before games of such calibre release, you can see that from the PS2 2001 pic making the rounds at gaf.

Funny despite all the cinematic push by western devs my top favorite games on PS3 are Demon's Souls, Yakuza 4 and Valkyria Chronicles. When you can play something that really delivers in all aspects, well that just beats the hollow set piece moments in Uncharted 10x over. mah set pieces!? lol.

Cherish these titles for such pleasures are few and far between.

They should announce it right alongside Beast Souls. Let everyone see where the Souls series began.

Since FF7, games have added things like voice acting and not so random encounters. I expect an updated FF7 to be more than just an HD reskin. I expect it to be a new vision for the same story using nearly every new feature and concept in game design that we've seen since the game released. That's what I would imagine to be a successful FF7 remake for me. That's likely why it would never happen because I imagine those in charge of something like that wouldn't be so keen on just updating the textures and calling it a day.

I would say Dark Souls, it's a lot easier getting into. Tbh I actually gave up on Demon's Souls, and I played it after Dark Souls...

So we still haven't seen the bolded items

he walked around

fought enemies

i can describe a giant mindflayer type enemy

a character placing a shining magic sword into a pedestal at the base of a statue

a huge pyromancy fireball

shotguns

there was text "This is a nightmare."

And these enemies

Heck yeah.

I expect FFVII Remake to get announced sometime during the middle-to-later part of PS4's life, and be one of the last epic releases on the console before PS5 arrives in 2018-2019.
