Sony E3 2014 Conference Thread

No driving games :( Was kinda hoping we'd see something from the smaller, PC-centric devs like Project CARS or Assetto Corsa. Oh, and I wanted to see some TxK PS4, too.

Woah, spooky. Echos my thoughts on racing titles. Still not tempted to get a One with Horizon 2 appearing on 360, but Crackdown 3 will probably force my hand eventually.

In a thread this big and so fast moving what are the chances of those posts appearing together!?! Thats it I'm off to buy a lottery ticket :)

It looks like this E3, both Sony and MS did OK. They showed off some of their exclusives and mostly third party games. Some small surprises and some leaks being confirmed. It wasn't bad. Considering the amount of games that are coming out this fall and early 2015, I would say it is going to be a pretty good year for games. We still haven't seen Nintendo yet though.

How the hell was telling Conker fans to fuck off being humble? Both conferences were crap IMO.

Well I personally thought it was nice of Microsoft mentioning the guys at Sony and Nintendo are all here to deliver games which is the biggest entertainment platform. It is a nice gesture.

Sony on the other hand, didn't really do anything major but I just don't want Sony to be back the way they were during the PS3 release.

Either way, I think I'm more impressed with the Ubisoft conference over the two just because I was better impressed with the trailers.

Something related to "Flower" was cut from the show

At the 10:47:00 mark: http://www.spike.com/netstorage/e3/live.html

Happens between the Ratchet and Clank Movie and TLOU remastered. Unknown if threadworthy.

I thought they were gonna announce a Flower movie, since that came up after the R&C film trailer.

Conference as a whole was hilariously underwhelming and actually worse than Microsoft's. Mortal Kombat X, Grim Fandago and I guess Bloodborne were the only semi-interesting things for me, but even they were just kinda "meh".

It still amazes me though that people on this forum are actually getting excited about The Last of Us and GTAV remasters. Really?

You can say the same about halo ports. I think its crazy anyone gets excited over ports. But people, we're different

The general consensus seems to be that it was all bad, MS was just the least offensive.

Yeah, don't believe that at all. Receipts?

Worst overall conference of the day saved only by BB and UC4.

...you're joking right?

I seriously cringed every time the fanboys in the crowd went wooohooooooo over absolutely nothing.

lol I love comments like these. Too cool for school and all that jazz.

Is there a link anywhere to download the confernece to watch on a plane? I'm traveling and missed the live stream.

Mods - have no idea if this is a bannable offense - please don't ban me :(

I felt both pressers were even in terms of the content they shared. Microsoft's was a better made production, should be the standard for how an e3 conference is done, but no major huge exclusive on the ms side for me (I'm a little meh on sunset). The major hole for sony is that they literally have no game coming out in the next 6 months that I haven't played... Well maybe the flower like game where you become a magic dragon but that looked pretty lame to me. There's tlou remake which I played late, so I just beat that a few months ago and I'm not dying to replay it so soon.

Good third party showing for both. Unity, the crew, far cry all looked better then I expected. Also I didn't think we'd get a gta5 announcement tonight and we did, which is a huge relief plus it looks great. NHL 15 looked great and I thought Madden looked fine plus I like the defensive stuff.

Aside from obvious ones like Xbox fansites the general belief on gamefaqs, IGN, Gamespot, and /v/ was that the MS show sucked a little bit less.

MS sucked a little less for showing games available on PS4 and CGI trailers? I don't know, maybe I just don't get it.

Sony's pacing got killed by Layden, but their content was superior. Both MS and Sony had a solid 1 1/2 hours of just games. Sony just happened to have an extra 20 minutes of boring crap in the middle and somehow that invalidates all the games they announced?

Wow. In what universe does Microsoft have as bad of a conference as EA? At least Microsoft had games to show. Microsoft could have just shown a demo of Kinectimals for an hour and been at the very least on par with EA. I don't even care much about Microsoft's conference (initially gave it a 6-7/10) but EA's is like 3/10 material if you're super generous.

Yeah there's no way MS had anywhere near what EA had. You can't even call what EA did a press con. I mean they basically went up there and did the equivalent of "Hey you guys wanna come look at what random programmer/artist is doing here on his monitor? What is it, who knows!?"

Grim Fandango is coming to "other platforms" and Magicka 2 is confirmed to be coming to PC.
Grim Fandango was announced as an exclusive wasn't it - have you got something that says other platforms announced? I'm sure it will be timed, in the same way I'm sure Inside, Dead Rising DLC will be timed, but haven't actually seen it mentioned. I've edited to remove the "exclusive" description from everything that is also coming to PC.

Everything shown in Sony's conference is out by the end of 2015, so that's awesome. Microsoft showed stuff from 2016 or later. Overall a good show, besides the psn/tv crap. I fell asleep and it made people in the theater anxious as we all thought the thing was ending at 1 1/2 hrs and they were creeping closer and closer to that time. Disappointed no Parappa/TLG footage, but what was shown was good. I'd give it a 7 or 8 out of 10. I'd give MS about the same score.

Driveclub not being mentioned makes me very very worried, and it won't touch Forza Horizon IMO.
I do LOVE me some LBP, but it is not anywhere in the same realm as a title such as Sunset Overdrive.
And that was any different for Uncharted? or many of the other videos shown by Sony? Please man, you need to step out from the one-way glass. Both companies do this.
And the fact that MS' AAA exclusives are being disregarded (c'mon, effing PHANTOM DUST) on gaf really is showing the bias. Come on guys.... We are gamers. Fanboyism needs to die. I'm just as happy about Uncharted as I am Halo MC Collection. We all need to drop the one or the other mentality.
I'm sorry, but you clearly didn't see:
Crackdown, Fable, Halo 5 and MC Collection, Phantom Dust, Forza Horizon and Scalebound....
Everything MS was destroyed for doing (TV, Money Hatting, not focusing on games), Sony did, and no one seems to see that.
I own both consoles, but there is no way I can say that Sony delivered an E3 presentation anywhere near what MS brought to the table this year.
This x1000. Phantom Dust is a megabomba of epic proportions.
Agreed man. I try to be unbiased, as I own both consoles, but there is no way Sony can think they put together a good conference or a good E3 lineup in general.
I'm sorry but this is very very subjective.
Crackdown, check. Halo 5 and MC collection, check. Scalebound, check. Forza Horizon, check. Sunset Overdrive, check. Fable, check. Phantom Dust (!!!), check.
I'm stoked fro The Order and Uncharted, but other than that, I was really let down by the lack of exclusives.
Please explain, because I find it very very hard to believe that the snoozefest I just watched matched Microsoft's conference presentation. Don't get me wrong, I am stoked for Uncharted and The Order.... but this conference as a whole was really poor.
I have no idea how anyone could rate Sony's conference higher than MS. Microsoft literally did nothing but show games. If you want to discount MS' showing because ntkrnl leaked the gist of it ahead of time, that is simply ridiculous. Leaks should not discredit the actual content of a presentation.
MS:
GAMES. Nothing but games. Plenty of AAA exclusives (Sunset Overdrive, Halo, Forza Horizon, Crackdown, Fable, Scalebound, etc).
9/10

Sony:
Games. TV TV TV! Ratchet and Clank Movie... Statistics! Very few AAA exclusives (Bloodborne, The Order, LBP3, Uncharted). Way too much focus on multi-plats. The flow of the presentation was very poor and they clearly did not have enough game content to fill the entire conference.
7/10

Especially after Microsoft's "TV, TV, TV!" fiasco of last year.... how could Sony think this was a sound strategy.
But, I will say, it was lightyears better than EA's "better off not showing up" conference.
Entire post history, ladies and gents.

I don't care if it was boring, but we're getting Vita TV!!!!

So what the fuck with that Vib Ribbon teasing?! For real. How do you get the guy who co-created it on stage for the first time, show a little video of it, mention it three times, including in a sentence leading up to a reveal and then REVEAL MORTAL KOMBAT GAMEPLAY CMON SON!!?

I was so mad.

I give it a B.

It could've cut the Powers segment down to 20-30 seconds and it'd be up to a B+, and some standalone Vita titles would've been nice, but there was a lot to love and see.

2014 is a lot more full than I realized, now.

The middle and back end of the conference were the best parts and why I would put it ahead of the MS conference. Sony had those key third parties titles that you know you wanted. UC4 looked great, Naughty Dog is gonna Naughty Dog. I knew it was them the moment he said we're not done yet.

Never played Grim Fandango but that reveal was amazing. Sony mentioning Paradox was a big "WHAT!"

The PS TV was a plus too as I will most likely pick that up at some point.

Would probably give it an 8.5 or even a 9. I think it was just slightly above MS's show.

Alright, so... Let's see what I was all about:

Sony:
  • Entwined: What a way to get into the show. "Here, go play this gorgeous game today because yes." I really want to see more gameplay, but what was shown seemed fantastic. Good choice of an E3 title for an immediate release.
  • BloodBorne: I haven't played any From Software titles, so I got nothing from this except interesting setting, rather dot.hack//-like weapon, cool armor style, and fear. Makes me want to try Dark Souls.
  • Abzu: Underwater exploration-based adventure with one hell of an artstyle? It got me good. It was almost my top showing of the conference. But...
  • No Man's Sky: I teared up. Seriously. This is literally what I've always wanted. Explore unique worlds using advanced technologies, interstellar travel without loading, and some sublime graphics and style choices. Those colors? Byutiful. Also, the HUD looks perfect.
  • PS-TV: I want one because I can get one and I want it now. Seriously. That price makes it perfect for "jumping in" the Vita's library while keeping a portable console to take on my travels.
  • Ratchet and Clank - Movie: This looks great! It looks just like I thought a Ratchet and Clank movie should look like! That animation is fantastic!
I give Sony an 8/10, as it made me want to purchase both the PS4 and PS-TV and had some fantastic games shown, rather than most being CG scenes. Sadly, the pacing was not as great as on Microsoft's conference, but that was due to things that they HAD to mention. Those were rather important parts of the "entertainment" angle Sony needs to take.

Actually, Sony didn't have to mention any of that. The stats were totally pointless and purely for investors and the mainstream media there. In fact they could have cut that 20 minutes of crap out. Shortened some of the Demos and it would have been just as phenomenal as MS. Sony botched this. It was great, but they sound like Apple with their product announcements and even at the start when they were using choice words to try and sell their system Andew sounded like a drone. This was not a good E3 for Sony. Because Unlike Microsoft. Sony has everything riding on the PS4. They're dying otherwise. While Microsoft can allow the Xbox Division to be pretty autonomous

To be fair, Sony showed a bunch of non-exclusives as well.

I'm just expressing how I can't see how Sony's conference was leagues better than MS.

I think MS conference was better paced, but Sony had more "wow" moments for me. They were very, very close and both companies should be proud.

Both were hurt by leaks (Bloodborne/project beast and the Halo Collection) Microsoft had a bit too many CG trailers about new IPs or lesser known games. I'm sure they're great but it was hard for me to be really excited. The Sunset Overdrive demo was definitely the hightlight.

Sony showed me 3rd party things like Arkham Knight/MKX gameplay, that first look at Drake in Uncharted 4 and Littlebigplanet 3 reveal. Nothing in MS made me drop my jaw, that's the only difference. Could be a personal thing.

The very worst part about the conference was how Layden started hyping Vib Ribbon, to the point where it was almost certain that he was going to announce the series' return... and then just dropped it completely and moved on to something entirely different. I loved that game, so I could have fucking throttled him for that I was so vexed.

Don't ever let that man on an E3 stage again Sony. He was zero charisma and he's clueless about what people want to hear. His mere presence did more harm than good in the end.

Dude I had no idea where the hell he was going with that, then all of a sudden Mortal Kombat showed up. That was so weird.

This selective listing is terribly annoying. Only LBP3 and a Ratchet movie worth mentioning? Really?

Suddenly I feel like I am in 90s Kosovo walking over land mines, only these land mines make my god damn head hurt and keep me alive to torture me.

Ok

Ori Blind Forest, Arcade DR, Phantom Dust, Scalebound, Halo HD collection, Sunset Overdrive

vs

Drake 4, Somethin Sky, Ratchet movie, Project Beast (AKA CGIville)

Xbox wins hands down, I sa this as never having owned an Xbox and been Sony since PS1

The TV stuff really slowed it down, it was near perfect besides that.

I think it was a great conference, many a detractor will have to eat crow this night, unless of course they just don't like what Sony is offering in the first place.

Best conference in my opinion.

Yeah seems a lot out there were happy with the same old AC running through crowds, COD trying to be a future shooter, more forza, fable, past halo games, beta new halo, zombie game remix, promise of crackdown in maybe 2 years, dance central, and a tease of gears of war.... Lol sounds like MS's last 8 years. Nothing new other than a token jrpg. I'll have more content on the ps4, and I'll be able to stream it to other TV's in my house. Sure Sony has always a bit chatty but I like the variety from Sony.

Thought the MS conference was solid. Crackdown HD, Fable co-op, Sunset Overdrive and the Platinum game all look promising.

Thought the Sony conference was better sheerly due to Bloodborne, No Man's Sky and Uncharted 4, but there were a ton of other games they announced that I personally didn't know about ahead of time and looked interesting. The Grim Fandango remake, holy shit.

Enjoyed both shows, but Sony definitely gets the nod from me from amount of new content announcements. Call me a fanboy, whatever, glad I have a PS4.

I was just going by the Grim Fandango thread which has a tweet from Tim Schafer that heavily implies there will be other versions.

Go to the summary thread and you'll see that MS had as much exclusive stuff as Sony. Sony also had a a shrew of multplatform stuff including Destiny, Far Cry 3, Dead Island 2, No Man's Sky, Mortal Kombat, GTA V Remaster, etc.
