yeah fake is bad reasoning as you guys are right it wouldn't be as entertaining if it was real. Just like most shows would be if they were realistic.

I'm just not entertained by it i guess. Nothing wrong with enjoying it though.

Right attitude to have.

Whenever someone tells me wrestling is fake I respond with "It's not just fake, it's also the dumbest thing ever. But that's why it's fun."

If someone ends up watching something that is entertaining, then why question it? If people watch Wrestling and love it, then why should you care? Pretty sure most adults know WWE predetermines all their matches... unless you're G-Fex or Vince McMahon.

I dint think that Vince McMahon spending the last 20 years deliberately turning wrestling into a joke has done it any favors in the eyes of people who dont watch it

Wrestling as a form of entertainment is reaching almost 40 years of being completely dumb and stupid. I fully support this, and am thankful for the fantastic gifs we have received as a result.

To be fair, on the flip side, i've seen plenty of people get real up in arms over certain things as if they were "real" like daniel bryan winning Wrestlemania. People are all "OMG I can't believe he did it, i'm so happy for him, He deserves it, blah blah blah" and i'm just kind of like...uh it's written that way. It's scripted. He didn't actually overcome some kind of insurmountable odds or some kind of adversity regardless of what the promos and storylines suggest. He won because it was written that way. We know this

That was one of the realest storylines told in years. Daniel Bryan had to overcome the boss, who had doubted him as a main event star for months and years. It was the culmination of his 14 years of hard, hard work to get where he was, and months of the fans revolting for him. You can criticize some storylines, but this was as real as it can get. A week before the Royal Rumble, word got out he was supposed to face Sheamus at Wrestlemania.

All WWE had to do in that story was capitalize on what was real, and they did.

I have a love / hate relationship with wrestling.

On one hand, I love the damn thing. I grew up watching it all my life and will always have a soft spot for it.

On the other hand, it's stupid as shit.

The actual "wrestling" which I once loved is pretty damn stupid. There was once a time when I would enjoy my favorite wrestler of all time, HBK, going at it the likes of Bret and Taker and thinking OOH AHH, but now its like what the fuck? I don't care about Daniel Bryan's lame submission hold that wouldn't hurt anyone. Or RKO's through those fake tables. Even a Burning Hammer is pretty unimpressive unless someone actually breaks their neck. Breaking up pins with a slap to the back of the head. Couldn't care less about garbage like CZW and puroresu. In a world where combat sports is around, they should have at least evolved a little bit.

I do love the production as it is better than anything else out there. Their sets, pyro, atmosphere, crowds, and a lot of other things are way ahead of anything else in the biz.

While I can't watch two guys actually 'wrestling' anymore, I always love watching clips of Brock Lesnar's debut crushing jobbers like Maven and Spike Dudley. Always love me some Heyman as well. I don't think there has been one interesting storyline since Punk's MITB walkout which they botched within a week.

Despite having the WWE Network for the past 6 months, I don't think I've used it more than a few times. Even the glory days of the Attitude Era were pretty terrible when I rewatch it. I try to keep up with the product every once in a while by reading blogs or meltzer excerpts. But my interest in it has waned considerably since maybe a couple of years ago.

Definitely more interested in the politics backstage, drug issues and hoping for wrestler deaths to read about since its inevitable (as fucked up as that sounds)

If the WWE started a storyline where Randy Orton gets the shit beaten out of him for leaving a pile of shit in other people's bags, I would definitely watch. No interest in seeing John Cena, Bryan, and other mediocre overrated guys like Cesaro, Ziggler, and Wyatt fight for the IC strap.

As fake as it is, it will always be a part of my life. Just hoping it'll get better one day.

Bring on the Chael Sonnen, CM Punk, Ronda Rousey, Brock Lesnar w/ Heyman faction and I'm all in. Till then no thanks.

I think what was actually happening just went way over your head. Sometimes stories mirror real life situations to add that extra juice to a conflict. This is a guy who the company felt only had a certain role to fill, and he worked on his character and showcased his talent to the point that the loud ass live audience rooting for him couldn't be ignored anymore. It was a good story of a guy making it to the top when no one expected him to. No one thinks wrestling is real.

Rocky is scripted too, but it still feels fucking great.

.

That's an odd complaint to make, given many wrestling submissions are based on real ones, just modified to be painless, Bryan's especially. If he actually cranked back on most of his submissions they'd very much hurt.
Then again, you call Cesaro "overrated" and puro "garbage" so I don't know where you're coming from.

1: You know that lame submission hold is basically an omoplata, rite
Also wot at saying someone should actually break their neck

Marvel

could never
I will laugh in anyone's face thinking the Labelle Lock IRL would not easily separate a shoulder or dislocate an elbow if full force was ever applied. Know your history brah.

in defence of the midget, his finisher is pretty much a omoplata facelock (omoplata with neck crank would be more effective).

I watch wrestling for the same reason people watch bad horror movies. "So bad it's good", etc. It's pretty much a product assumed to be for kids, though. Kinda like video games.

Wrestling is my dirty little secret because of people like in the OP. There's a real art to how great matches are booked that hardly anyone talks about.

I did watch wrestling during the Hulk Hogan period, but i can't enjoy watching wrestling as an adult (or duing my teenage years) because everything looks so fake

I got grudge sucked!
I think a lot of people understand how pro wrestling works and can appreciate the work they put in the matches to get the fans invested, even if the outcomes are predetermined. There are some that still hold wrestling in great disdain and shit on it whenever they get the chance. The old timey sports writer that has a vote for the baseball hall of fame...he hates wrestling, those types.

I can understand calling wrestling juvenile, but 1) that's a different argument and 2) lots of things are juvenile, and if we went around yelling at every woman who loves soap operas and every guy who likes wrestling and every person who likes E! entertainment news and every alien who watches real house wives of Atlanta, we'd pretty quickly be pointing our fingers at basically everyone, which doesn't seem productive. Most people have their "I want to watch something stupid, silly and fun" time, and if this is what wrestling fans want to do with theirs, so be it.

Isn't this just a slippery slope argument? Isn't it possible to give an occasional criticism without being required to criticize everyone all the time?

"Real American" by Rick Derringer is probably the greatest song with English lyrics ever made in the history of bipedal man.
We can thank pro wrestling and one Terry Gene Bollea for its growth and popularity.
God bless.

WWE is pre-determined, but so is every other sport.

Stern has the NBA being ran by refs and fouls.

Dana has everyone believing UFC isn't pre-determined. Brock Lesnar shot through the Heavyweight ranks, while losing. But it helped shoot UFC through the roof money wise.

Every single Mayweather match is fixed. He refuses to fight better competition and pays the judges via his promotional company. But his fights have some of the best undercards ever.

I personally believe the winners and losers of the NFL is fixed, but I have no proof besides botched calls and shitty reffing. The NFL is still the king of the US.

The NHL has instant replay, yet they blow 3 calls in a game 7 between the Kings and Hawks, that anyone with an hdtv could see.

I still love all of these(except Mayweather) and will continue to watch regardless if they are fixed. It's my reality tv, even if it's fixed.

See these the types of dudes that make outsiders wonder what is wrong with the world.

I don't see how it's slippery. Slippery slope requires gradients. I'm stating an equivalence.

Eh. I like watching both to a point, but there's only so much interest I can muster for one dude laying on top of another for 3-5 rounds.

I don't know fake is the right word to use. Wrestling is entertainment, and straight punches obviously don't hit the face. I rarely see faces covered in blood. They also help eachother when they are being lifted. But they're still athletes. I can't do the stuff they pull off, and ofcourse some things get botched. A botched piledriver or rope suplex might end up with a broken neck. Its still rather dangerous.

When I was young I didn't know or care everything was written and I was stoked when a belt was at stake. But now I just sort of see coming who gets the win, Bryan was already growing more popular and became the crowds darling, I knew the WWE had to make him the champ at some point. I watch it from time to time, I think its mindless fun. Although some of the banter is pushing it.

It's no more or less fake than the Batman movies, the Kardashians, Fox News, or pretty much anything on TV meant to be entertaining.

I mainly lost interest in wrestling as I got older because the show today just seems kind of trashy, boring, and predictable to me. Not sure if it's just been my perceptions shifting as I get older or the show actually getting more trashy, boring, and predicatble.

i am one of them guys that just cant watch WWE/TNA etc etc.

I am a huge pro-wrestling fan but I cant deal with the BS soap opera garbage. I found Japanese pro-wrestling in 1998 and havent looked back.

and as an MMA fan, let me just say that RINGS was a much more entertaining product when they were a pro-wrestling/Worked MMA organisation.

some of them worked shoots were amazing!!

Lmao what is this magical better competition he hasn't fought? Pacquiao? Dude cleaned out his entire division and then some. And pay judges to give him the right score for his domination?

Why do you even bother watching sports knowing its rigged? and WWE isn't a sport

I don't get why people hate on it for being fake at all. Everything is fucking fake. Reality tv is fake, games are fake, etc.

What I don't get, is why so many heterosexual guys are into watching other big sweaty muscular dudes pretend to hurt eachother. I just really don't get that, but I have nothing against fans of the sport. I like watching UFC, I like a good technical fight, but wrestling really does just seem like soap operas for men, and that really doesn't appeal to me.

For the same reason people will tell you "soccer is boring" if you're a fan of it. Haters gonna hate. If you don't know what goes into something, you'll usually use the lowest common denominator argument.
