XBLA (Xbox Live Arcade) News, Announcements, Reviews, and Impressions Thread

I decided agains Batman yesterday, because I want to wait for a greater sale. Today I am thinking about Assassin's Creed... is it worth the 10 bucks or should I wait as well for a 66% or 75% sale?

If anyone is going to drop acid tonight, download the Banjo Bundle demo and run it.

It popped up over night and they probably just uploaded the 'full' frontend as a demo by mistake. When you select download it throws up a message saying that you haven't purchased it then a purchase screen appears for the full bundle frontend. All 10MB of it.
It's literally a demo for a frontend that lets you download the games.

Did anyone buy the full version of Abyss Odyssey and if they tried the demo before buying, is the full game as jerky as the demo?

Are these the ultimate versions of Doom or are there superior version out there?

Beyond just running the WADs through a source port they are as complete as any official release.

Doom 1 includes Thy Flesh Consumed.

Doom 2 had a new expansion included, No Rest for the Living, that has been added to the newer Doom 2 releases. It doesn't include the Master Levels but they don't really count.

If you just want to play some vanilla SP Doom they are good enough. MP will be dead for both though.

Tried downloading the said bundle and got a trial only. When I tried clicking on the games I got a prompt saying to pay up. =/

Regarding your question, I just finished trying out the demo and do agree that the controls feel jerky but it reminds me a lot of Dust: An Elysian Tail in terms of combat and exploration mixed with Castlevania and ACE Team's signature quirky art style. I think I like it enough that I might just buy it so I might be able to give you more detailed impressions.

what game should i get between doom 1 , doom 2 and wolfenstein 3d?? , i never played any of these games so i would like to try at least one of them

none. they're 20+ years old and only good for nostalgia IF you've played them.

About six years ago I had a couple months between jobs and one thing I did was play through the entirety of Doom 1 on Xbox Live and had a fantastic time doing it. I only played the shareware portion of Doom on PC years prior and almost always just used cheats to blow through everything so it felt way different and I really enjoyed getting through it.

I'll get around to buying some Doom pack on Steam one of these days just to go through Doom II.

I think they hold up fairly well if you enjoy that sort of fast-paced, maze-like level design.

As others said, Doom 1. Doom 2 is essentially just another set of levels with a few new bits. Both are totally worth playing.
Wolf 3D predates Doom so visually and gameplay wise it's more simplistic but it has it's own charm.

I know this is a completely dumb question, but has anyone tried The Raven?

I know, I know, of course nobody bloody has.

It looks awful, but possibly in a "so bad it's funny" kind of way.

I was about to ask the same. It's tempting at that price, but as you said, it looks bloody awful.

Might take a shot and hope for the best.

So TMNT Training room then,

#1 As expected, it was a stupid thing to play a kinect game on such a warm day.
#2 It's Fruit Ninja and thankfully short. Tracking is good but you have to move a little too far on one of the stages.

is painkiller fun for 6 dollars??

Have you ever played the original on Pc/original Xbox? This is an HD remake/quasi-sequel. There are missing stages compared to the original game and expansion. If you like Painkiller the 360 version of this one is servicable but kind of janky. Even with the sensitivity all the way up the aiming still feels off. Very stiff and impercise. I never truly felt in control. Still, if you like games like Painkiller your choices are kinda limited these days. Basically it is an FPS in the classic style with tons of enemies swarming you waiting to be killed. The fun comes from the interesting weapons and fast action. Each gun features an alternate fire and they all have a nice punch. I especially enjoy shooting wooden stakes to stick enemies to the walls. I believe they have a demo up that lets you play a couple stages. Give that a shot as the full game is more of the same. Not many people seem to be into the game so it is definitely one to try for yourself first.

It's about damn time the Red Faction: Guerilla DLC goes on sale. Will definitely be checking out. Speaking of which, I definitely recommend folks check the aforementioned Red Faction: Guerilla and play it on Easy. It's one of the most fun game open world games you'll ever play simply for the completely destructible environments which unfortunately wasn't copied by other games after it.

Leveling a building with a hammer feels incredibly satisfying. The multiplayer was pretty fun from what I played of it but IIRC, the community is practically non-existent at this point; I would only find a small dedicated group playing it.

So there is fuck all for Xb1 for another week. Given the lack of retail releases until Sep I would of thought this would of been a great time to push some smaller downloadable games
