Anyone has experience with a 5+" phone, im curious about the 5.5 model, but i think it wont fit in my pocket, kinda defying the whole phone thing.

Plenty of phones have been bigger and still fit in pockets. I guess it depends on the kind of clothes you wear?

I posted a bit ago about my experience. I've owned iPhones since the 3g. I currently own an iPhone 5 and a OnePlus One which has a 5.5" screen. I found that it fits in my pocket just fine and that after using a phone with a screen that size that it's really hard to go back to the iPhone 5 because the screen seems so small.

None of the flagship 5" or bigger phones I have tried had bezels as big as this is expected to have.

That bezel is going to suck.

Well you might have a point, so you would recommend checking out the 5.5 over the 4.7?

I prefer the rounded look of the new phone but I'm not sure what Apple is thinking with a protruding lens and bands on the back. It looks ugly, something they usually do a good job of avoiding with their hardware.

If the 5.5" has tremendously better battery life as rumoured, I think I will hold off ordering one until I can try holding it. 5.5" just seems insanely, comically big to me.

They were thinking "The phone needs to be thin. But this goddamned camera module is so thick and we don't have a thinner module with the same quality so we have to compromise." They're not going to make the phone a few millimeters thicker just to keep the camera flush. Though if they did they could probably fit a little more battery in it. But it'd be marginal.

Definitely looking forward to holding both in person. I just need to find a place that has them on display.

They should fit most men's pockets. There was a gif of a 6 inch phablet going into a bunch of pockets.
For me the biggest issue is width that make them unwieldy one handed and while they may be ok standing when I sit down all hell breaks loose.

I want to be surprised with a prettier design for the iPhone 6 but I know this seems highly unlikely at this point.

My galaxy s4 is 5" and its great. The size does not bother me one bit and fits in my pocket fine.

My only concern with the new iPhone is that due to the size of the phone both above and below the screen, its going to feel much larger in your hand/pocket than say the Galaxy or LG phones.

4.7" iPhone 6: Height: 5.4", Width: 2.6", Thick: .27"

5.1" Galaxy S5: Height: 5.4", Width: 2.8", Thick: .31"

Same size phone with Galaxy a half inch bigger screen. Width is negligible, iPhone significantly thinner.

I might have to become one of those people who wears a phone clip. I'm way too used to having my phone peering out from the top of my "iPod nano pocket" where I can check the time with a press of the power button. No pulling it out of my pocket.

But it wouldn't even be a few millimetres thicker - it'd be maybe 1mm thicker. You wouldn't even notice I bet. But people will notice the camera sticking out.

Yeah I don't understand the obsession with thinness when it leads to design compromises like that.

I don't think calling something pro just because it's bigger is going to happen. If Apple starts calling iDevices "pro" versions, they're gonna have to do more like with the old Macbook vs macbook pro line.

I think it's more likely that no idevice gets a "pro" name anytime soon.

For me I will be no doubt buying the 5.5" version even if it means waiting a month or 2. I can't really tell you what to do since a phone that big isn't for everyone. I would at least say to give it some serious consideration though as you might be surprised at how much you enjoy the extra screen real estate.

Is the baseline 8th-gen iPhone expected to be 650 USD unsubsidized still? I really can't afford more than that, and I am really hoping it has 32GB of storage for baseline.

I think it's to their disadvantage not to name it iPhone 6 at this point. Everyone is basically already calling it that.
Hasn't stopped them in the past :lol

Will be interesting to see what they go with. Air/Pro don't make as much sense as with the iPad but who knows.

1 more sleep guys.

Now if the phone comes out on Friday the 19th will it ship before so we get the phones that day. I'm probably going to order through Verizon since I'm signing up for a new line and it doesn't seem like apple offers their new single line plan.

Yeah october actually works better for me. Slow contracting month, so I'll need some extra cash to get it.

I think it will be a lot less popular than the smaller model. I know right off the bat a lot of women who don't like the idea of the 5.5 because it's too big (oh I set that up for a good joke)

Keep the numbers. Helping people know which version of the iPad they have is a nightmare now with the dropped numbers. Gimme dat Air 2.

If you pre-order from apple.com, yes. If you order some other way, 50/50.

Perviously, they did preorders that you would get on the day.

Last year they only did preorders for the 5c, so who knows...

I have a feeling their pre-orders will be more timely this year.

Last year was pretty crappy but with their last conference this year it seems like they're on top of releases (such as betas being available on the day).

edit: I ended up buying the 5S in store as it was stocked before my order even dispatched. And I had pre-ordered minutes after the site went up

Ordering from Apple last year was a terrible experience. I ended up getting my phone in Oct while everyone I knew was pretty easily picking them up in stores. Super frustrating. If is the same order-on-launch-day style I might just take a day trip to Vancouver and pick one up in person.

Saw that this morning. Silly incorrect argument. Summary "the battery is 90% bigger, but the screen has 90% more real estate so the battery life will likely not get better". Just ignorant.

The increased resolution of the larger screen will take more juice to power for sure, but the 1:1 ratio of battery size increase and screen dimension increase is incorrect. I would expect the 5.5" to have better battery life than the 4.7", but it would be almost double like some people have speculated.
