Indeed. I sold my iPhone 4 for $200 when I bought the iPhone 5 two years ago. Essentially I didn't have to pay any additional money to upgrade. Plan on doing the same this time around.

AT&T Next is a scam.

It depends on how your current plan is structured. I'm on the AT&T Mobile Share Family plan, so I pay $100 + $15 per phone. If I sign a two year contract, I can get an iPhone for $200 but my plan goes up to $40 for any phones under the two year contract., plus a $40 upgrade fee

If I use AT&T Next, I pay $27 for 24 months (the full price of the phone spread across 24 months), but it stays at $15 per phone, and no upgrade fee. It ends up being cheaper on that plan to not have a contract.

You have a big data plan.

I will most probably upgrade to a iPhone 6 if I like what I see tomorrow.
My iPhone 5 battery is on its last legs!

What is "last legs"?

I have an iPhone 5 since launch and it gave me 10 hours on wifi usage (as reported), and mine is now about 8 hours. So I've lost about 20%. I think that's pretty good and will hopefully carry me out a bit longer.

But has Apple's use of non-user replaceable batteries really caused us to consider phone to be consumable when the battery dies?

There is a recall/replacement thing for 5 batteries. I just got mine swapped for a new bat for free.

Yeah I saw that. My phone serial number says that I am eligible to the free battery swap. Will do that as soon as I get the iPhone 6 unless the release date is way into the future for the swedish market.

hmm my batteri dies at random low %. sometimes at 35% sometimes at 10 %.
The phone also dies if I am outside and the phone gets cold...

It´s truly a shitty batteri life on my iPhone 5, I think overall the iPhone 5 is crap compared to my favourite iPhone, the iPhone 4 !

Ah, you have one of those batteries.

My wife has one. It really is on its last legs.

Will get it replaced hopefully.

My iPhone 5 battery seems to last like 2 hours in real world usage, lol. Always have to be plugged.

Apple's Mobile Payments Initiative May Include Rewards Program
http://www.macrumors.com/2014/09/08/apple-mobile-payments-reward-program

According to sources with knowledge of Apple's plans, the company has been in talks with InterContinental Hotels Group (seemingly incorrectly referred to as "IGH International" in the report), a global hotel chain, about a possible partnership for a loyalty program and has been hiring to fill positions related to the pilot program, which may be built into iTunes.

Bank Innovation specifically points towards an Apple job opening seeking a "Senior World Wide Partner Marketing Manager," who will create programs and training materials for "external partners" and who will focus on driving customer adoption of "existing and new features." Other similar job postings also hint at the development of a major program focused on third-party partnerships, which may be a loyalty program.

The site suggests that the company is just now beginning to hire for the division, which means a possible loyalty program is unlikely to be available right when its payments service launches.

awww yeah, gonna rack up those points.

You can get it checked in any case, Wario64. They have diagnosis tools to check if your battery is faulty (they can even do it remotely).

I've had my iPhone 5 replaced once, but I kinda think I'm on my way to get it replaced again. 2 days ago it died at 20% battery, which is a common symptom with what my first iPhone 5 had.

10GB/month for 4 phones.

Individuals may find cheaper methods, but for family plans, this seems to be the cheapest way to go (at least for unlimited talk/text plans).

I got 3 family members to come to my AT&T 10GB plan. Now we each pay ~$42/month (I have a 17% work discount). My grandpa and Dad hardly use data, so there's plenty to go around. Haven't even hit 5GB yet.

It really is a good deal. People just gotta get used to the normal price of phones.

Well that sucks.

EDIT: I was referring to Apple admitting they had a battery problem in certain 5 and 5s models. They were doing a program where you can send them back in. But it had to be a specific serial/date that was impacted (I'm assuming since you said Nope, you already checked). IN that case, the OS updates killing battery life is really shitty. For whatever reason I never had it as bad as 2 hours. Holy god.

According to Macotakara, the 4.7-inch model will be known as “iPhone 6″ while the 5.5-inch version will be called the “iPhone 6 Plus.” Apple has not used the “Plus” suffix for a product before, so that would be a first. This naming convention does not seem incredibly likely, but Macotakara did indeed accurately predict the iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c names last fall. Leaning toward iPhone 6 being at least one of the two names is that the EXIF data shared by the “reviewer” of leaked 4.7-inch iPhone 6 hardware refers to the device as the iPhone 6.

I like plus (or +) better than L.

Umm...

If the 5.5 inch iPhone is real, and delayed, I'm still going to wait for it to ship. Anyone else with me?

Do you think it will be small enough to fit into jeans pockets?

i sold my 5s recently and have been rocking this

its not pretty, but it does the job and only cost £15. if i didnt have my ipad mini i'd probably cry

I really want a 5.5 and was going to consider waiting. But I actually broke my phone 3 weeks ago. So initially, I was going to just cave in and get the 4.7 (I was really sad about the initial reports of a delayed release for 5.5). But the latest rumor is that the 5.5 will launch on the same day. But it seems that it will have half the supply. So it's going to be insane getting one.

Is there like a best way to go about trying to get an iPhone? I've never done an iPhone release before (usually got one 2 months after). Do pre-orders usually go up x amount of days before the release date? I kind of hate having to line up early at Best Buy. But I totally will since I use my phone a lot, and really really want the 5.5.

Well you don't need to go that far :p you could get a dirt cheap android or windows phone PAYG for maybe £50. But I bet you could get to iphone release day without needing to charge that thing :D

I share this exact sentiment. I went from a 4 to a 5 (my wife has a 4S, which will most likely transform into a 6 as soon as it's available). I've never really liked the build of the 5. It's so much lighter that it feels cheap, too. The 4 had a nice, non-intrusive weight to it and seemed to have really nice build quality. I can't blame crap battery completely on the 5, though, as it's gotten notably worse with iOS updates.

What's the battery life on a phone like that? I had one from 2003-2010, and even near the end it could still go 5 days of (light) use between charges. Has processing efficiency improved this further?

Pre-order online. Save yourself the trip going to a store dealing with crazy people. I'm sure someone here will let you know of when pre-orders go up. I think it's usually the Friday after the announcement though I know the 5S didn't have pre-orders. Instead it was just put up on midnight the day of release.

yup, its brought back some memories though with the nokia tone and having to disablie the t9 predictive dictionary. also feels liberating to not give two shits about a phone (its been a long time), no qualms about using this as a frisbee either.

i've had it for about a week and it has 4 out of 5 bars left, im guessing this could do 2-3 weeks which is insane. i bet it is still going after i get the 6.

Damn. I'll be glued to my computer tomorrow. So I guess I'll just have to keep checking back.

I'll have to wait for the specs to see which is the better value. I prefer 4.7 but if 5.5 has extra features it might be worth it.

It's not going to be delayed. Low stock if anything but it will have the same release date as the 4.7".

Yup my phone does the same and I qualify for the replacement as well. Need to do that soon

Welp my 5 packed in today due to water damage so looks like I'm going to be jumping in on the new one. Curious about pricing, my hope is that the smaller of the 2 will be in line with where the 5c was

Not a chance. Smaller one will be what the normal new iPhones are. Larger one will obviously be a premium on top of that.

I'd love to be proven wrong, but I don't even have a sliver of hope for that.

That's not going to happen. The 5S will take the 5C pricing. 4.7" iPhone 6 will take the 5S pricing. 5.5" iPhone 6 will probably take the $100 more than the 4.7" iPhone 6 pricing like what Samsung does with the Note 4 and S5.

Yeah I checked the serial a couple times and it wasn't affected. I was planning to refresh the phone completely to see if that would help but I'm kinda lazy on doing that, I've been using my same icloud backup or whatever for years
