They weren't guaranteed before or after the patch.

If you get a purple engram from them you will get a legendary though.

I agree, just so we are clear I think this patch is exactly what the loot system needed.

You're locked out of loot from bosses for that difficulty, and the drops are based off of a loot table and determined by RNG for everyone. This issue is exacerbated by the fact you can randomly get gear you already have when someone else in the group could use it. I do not need three Praedyth's Revenge sniper rifles. I do not need a second Glass Minuet. Being forced to DE the sniper rifle when someone else in the group could've used it way more than I needed Energies and Weapon Parts is about as unfair of a situation I can think of. It's like being forced to be the worst loot ninja ever. And then being given a ton of Shards for the gear I don't even have yet, because I'm doing the stupid raid to get said gear in the first place, puts me in the situation where I'm sitting on unused shards crossing my fingers to play the raid-gambling-game again for a headpiece.

A dice roll between players over a single piece of loot is fair. This bullshit is only fair if we're putting fingers in our ears to disregard the fact the raid, regardless of mode, is the highest challenge in the PvE of this game. And if you think it's fine for someone among a group of six players to walk out with the same shit he had entering the raid while being forced to keep the gear he could've given to other players who need it way more than he does, you are far more into the sadistic side of gaming than I am and I play the Souls games with naked characters dual wielding, and I can't say that's what I think is the definition of a suitable reward. Fuck that noise.

And 2 chances because I can do Heroic, and then roll two other characters? Talk about living with a problem.... While I support that idea, I only support it as a way to alleviate the current issue. I'd be fucking crazy to think the loot system for the raid is fair in its present state, even if I had a million warlocks geared to the teeth at level 30.

Hey I didn't say it was "fair" and in fact I agree with you regarding the reward system, but just saying there are certainly additional chances; once per week and a lockout isn't accurate.

I don't think anyone is sticking their fingers in their ears and pretending anything, where is that coming from? Citation needed.

I just earned this reward, post patch.

It's cool though. I'm getting a ton of blues from Strikes, and not just mission rewards, enemies are dropping them like crazy.

I've got Thunderdevil too, would definitely be using it if Chatterwhite didn't go better with my Helm of Inmost Light

Just to clarify this- everything having to do with Mail Rewards from the Cryptarch is completely unaffected by this patch.

Before this patch, he'd send you rewards. These could turn into either blue or purple engrams (way, way, more blue in my personal experience).

This is still the case.

Now, purple engrams will always yield purple items. This has nothing to do with the mail rewards which merely give you engrams to decrypt.

Welp, in the about 45 min I played on my lunch break today, I received:

- 3 ass energies
- 2 ass shards
- 2 legendary items (1 for warlock which I'll make next)
- 1 blue decrypted into a purple (never happened before today)
- 1 exotic bounty (my first after 80+ hours playtime)
- 5-6 random blue drops

I can officially no longer complain.

Patch 1.0.3 preview:

Hello Guardians! We've been gathering lots of community feedback from the previous patch in which we tweaked engram rewards. This got us thinking about how we can make the loot pool more rewarding, especially for newer players who are just getting their first legendary drops!

  • Since legendary engrams are now giving guaranteed legendary items, we've decided to remove ascendent shards/energy from the dismantle rewards for these items. Any legendary items received from blue engrams will still produce ascendent materials when dismantled.
  • Legendary rewards from strikes are now only able to drop once a day.
  • Hawkian is no longer able to use the Hawkmoon.

Woohoo! I got the legendary hand cannon I wanted (The Devil You Know) as a reward for hitting vanguard rank 3.

I'd love a Hawkmoon at some point but I've got Icebreaker and am working on the bounty for Super Good Advice.

Next things I'm after are the Thunderdevil shader and the awesome Mohawk exotic Titan helmet I've forgotten the name of.

Anyone care to farm a bit of queens wrath? Trying to get my lv 21 titan geared, but it's basically a one shot right now if anything hits me.

Mr_antimatter on psn. Can switch to my lv 25 hunter to return the favor if anyone needs after that.

Hey based on that DLC leak, did I see correctly that there will be another Raid? Didn't bungie say that there wouldn't be raids in those expansions? And didn't someone post the preorder card for the DLC and it didn't mention it? Who do I believe?!

It's a challenge to overcome to get the exotic. And since Thorn will be getting a buff, it may be more worth it lol.

speaking of queen bounties I reached lvl 1 and finally got a new shader but lvl 2 only has rare guns?! really not even legendary like the other factions? weird. all my shit is better than that already.

There will be more raids, but I am trying to avoid DLC spoilers.

Question 1: Fusion Rifle outclasses shotgun in PvE almost 100% of the time.

Question 2: Quick charge time, being the element of that week's Burn mod, high range, or being Pocket Infinity
 
33 blues yielded 3 motes of light and the Arctic Proxy shader which I actually like. All three packages were blues. Oh well. I should hit Vanguard level 5 today hopefully that gives me a gun I was planning to buy.

There will be a raid per expansion. No idea what quote from Bungie you're referring to; it is their main selling point IMO.
