Do they, really? I mean, you just admitted you have no idea who is behind the Hunger Games movies (or if it's even one person or multiple directors) and that series is about to hit movie 3. The Harry Potter movies made billions and I don't think your average viewer could tell you who directed which ones. I don't think the general public knows who James Gunn is. I don't think most people who watched and enjoyed Guardians know who James Gunn is.

We have had enough of these mega-franchises to know that most of the directors who work on an IP film that clears $700-1B aren't really guaranteed any level of success on future films.

See here's the thing. The general public doesn't care about who directs a movie. This is why someone like Nolan is considered very special in Hollywood. The audience knows his name and they go to see his movies. We have no proof that anyone knows who Gunn is and won't know until the movie after his Marvel stint. Whedon is a different case because he was a very well known writer and producer for TV.

Huh maybe its just me but literally every person I talk to about that film including my parents who are 50 knows that he directed it. When the movie was building up / releasing they had his face all over TMZ and E! TV. He has a big personality and was doing media in force.

Either way Id be shocked if he doesn't land at least 1 major film outside of Marvel when he's finished.

I know Gunn has denied it but I still wouldn't rule out something roughly equivalent to Planet Hulk happening with the GotG folks.
 
I'll also add I'm all for Guardians / Planet Hulk. Would bring the Guardians into contact with the Avengers somewhat and would give Hulk some time to shine outside of just an Avengers film. Works out pretty good in my opinion.

It doesn't even need to be a comic planet hulk story, they could just use the title and make it a hulk oriented Guardians film

A GOTG Planet Hulk tie-in sounds awesome frankly. It's a damn shame if Marvel is hesittant to do another solo Hulk. A new Hulk would have the Avengers bump, and easily outgross the 2008 film. Speaking of which, I really like that movie, lol.

You not understanding how forums/opinions work is not my problem and I am well aware of the fact that I'm personally interested has no bearing on what Marvel decides to put into production. If you want to get upset because I think a Black Widow movie would be boring an uninteresting, then that's great but I really don't care.

I actually really like it too, hell i still enjoy iron man 2 (oh god i hope i dont die for that one lol) HELL, i enjoy all of the marvel movies, they're all just fun movies, some not being good as others, but they're all fun either way

You can put me in with you as enjoy all the Marvel movies thus far. Heck I do have all of them on blu-ray and watch them multiple times with my family.

I'm not saying they shouldn't go for a Planet Hulk movie, but if the Guardians are involved, it probably wont be super close to that, only because it would be weird for them to just happen to be stuck on that planet with him haha, my idea is Hulk ends up in space, and crashes to a planet, and the guardians end up having to deal with a VERY angry Hulk haha

James Gunn has a far more distinct personality with a greater media presence than either Francis Lawrence, Gary Ross, Mike Newell or David Yates (not so sure of Columbus or Cuaron). And with Guardians being a more unknown property than Hunger Games or Harry Potter, Gunn has a much greater chance of being more associated with it than any director of the other franchises. For HP and HG, they both originated from incredibly well known books and most people will associate their authors with them before a film director.

I'm not saying Gunn is well known to the public, but it would be easier for him than most other blockbuster directors because of how the public narrative has played out.

That's my EXACT train of thought, it could also lead to some hilarious situations, especially with groot being the small tree-man child monster he was in the first movie, i could see hulk and groot becoming good buddies, it could lead to some hilarious stuff and i think people would enjoy it

He was the Dark World director, no?

Apparently his cut of the film was heavily revised and changed for the final cut shown in theaters. More Loki scenes were added, and scenes that would have explained the Dark Elves' characterization and motivations better were cut. They removed heavy parts of the mythology to appeal to fandom.

Yep and there could be some sweet action set pieces with them fighting / teaming up by the end. Honestly Hulk / Guardians film makes a ton of sense but is there any evidence it may be happening?

Other than the fishy Guardians sequel not having a subtitle to it's name, and hulk going nuts in the Age of Ultron trailer, no, but it's looking like it COULD be a thing, or at least an idea is there

loki was not even close to being TDW's problem. it is that unbearable damn natalie portman, christ she fucked up the entire movie with her horrible acting. i hope thanos crushes her worthless character.

I'll focus on the three you named (since most of the others weren't really from TV).

Favreau got in because he started it off, Black got in because I get a feeling Downey basically got carte blanche on Iron Man 3 to do whatever (since nothing really ties in yet, IIRC), and Gunn was writing Suda51 games before getting that gig.

I don't know, I heard about Marvel recutting the film a lot and Taylor's not so subtle frustration over it, but there was a lot of basic directing elements in the film that I just thought were pretty poor -- performances, shot composition. Unless Marvel heavily reshot a lot of the movie without Taylor, I think he's just as much to blame as any studio mandates.
 
Everyone keeps saying Guardians/Hulk crossover but the sad truth is that Hulk would be badly overshadowed in such a film.

Nay. We deserve to see the Worldbreaker in all his glory. We need the Sakaarson.

Guardians is the only upcoming film though I could see Hulk realistically appearing in. If not that then I suppose we will never see the character outside Avengers which would be a bummer.

I would love to, but I found the movie really, really disappointing. Is it a terrible unwatchable movie on technical merits? Probably not. Is it a huge waste for what it could have been? Absolutely. The Loki scenes were the only things I enjoyed in the movie, and the overall structure just felt so weak. Poor editing, poor writing, just poor composition all round. It wasn't exciting to look at, it wasn't exciting to follow, and the villain was a huge letdown considering the casting and the character. Everything just felt like a colossal waste.

Yes. I don't think it's shit. I just thought it was OK at best. It had good moments, had meh moments. The Asgard portions were the best. I loved Thor 1 though and consider it one of the best Phase 1 films.

Im with you with the massive waste of potential. When I heard the villian, casting, plot leaks, etc I thought it was going to be incredible. What we got in comparison to what it could have been is super depressing.

At the end of the day though I can still watch and enjoy it.
