Dragon Age: Inquisition Review Thread

Woo, nice to see these good reviews. This solidifies the choice of this being my first next-gen game when I get a PS4 somewhere in March next year.

Now it's time to replay Origins and play DA2 for the first time.

Stevivor gave it 8.5

Speaking of depth, it's an area where DA:I truly shines. It’s noticeable right off the hop with how massive the world really is. We’re not talking about using the same piece of environment several times over to give the impression of size either. Thedas is a big place and this is the first Dragon Age game that really gets that vision across.

whats the performance like between consoles? and is it 1080p on PS4 and 900p on Xbone?

I sort of want to play it on my Xbone but everyone is badgering me to get it for my PS4 that worrying sounds like a hoover.

Wow. I'm really surprised this has reviewed so well. It looked really dull in the previews I saw.

Guess I'll be grabbing a copy after all!

God knows where I'm going to find the time to play all these good games. Still, it's a nice problem to have.

Folk might also be interested to hear that PlayStation 4 reviews did not get any impressions of multiplayer -- BioWare's had to put in extra work to get it running after 2.00.

From RPG Fan review:
There were also many times where the tactical camera became an utter hassle to maneuver, particularly in tight spaces or low-roofed areas. The camera itself can't be moved through solid barriers, so in order to attack enemies past a doorway, I'd have to navigate to the open door and slide the cursor through it as though it were a character of its own. In some areas, it was difficult or even impossible to see anything without a lot of fiddling. Thanks to the controls and the inability to move through solid objects, the usually great flow between real-time and strategic tactical cam action was often disrupted.

Eh, that's what I feared. Tactical camera on PC is using that stupid control scheme from console version. Very disappointed.

Bioware hits a homerun. This speaks well for Mass Effect 4 (or whatever they call it).

So excited for EA Access to unlock now.

No, they were sceptical about what was in the beginning of the game (which was all they were allowed to talk about at the time) and their review reflects that in that it's seemingly quite slow in building things up. Everywhere else that Bratt has let slip any impressions regarding the game, they've always been positive.

Yes, I mean they weren't going in very hopeful or blinded by hype. They were clearly guarded and something really impressed them to get them all bubbly and happy again.

Edit: Also they seemed concerned with the no pure healing class change in the preview. They thought it would make the game too easy, yet they had to change to easy from normal to beat the dragon on cam.

I've pretty much ignored the game until now, but I have to say, reading a few reviews it seems they finally managed to make the game I wanted them to make for years.

Yes, I am the same, infact it seems to be becoming a bit of a habit, I was the same with Shadows of Mordor, Sunset OD, Lords of the fallen, and now this!.

It's becoming a very expensive month!

So ... Will I like this game if I never played a dragon age game ..?

Only bioware game I played were mass effect and I hated the storytelling and dialog in those games

FFS TOO MANY GAMES!!!!

Horizon 2, Driveclub, Sunset Overdrive, MCC, Assassin's Creed, Dragon Age, COD: AW...... I don't even have time for so many games.... but I must have them........ must have the precious', yes..... we will finds them......

Excellent, so glad this turned out to be just as good as I thought. After The disappointment of Watchdogs and Destiny the year is ending well.

The comments on the pcgamer review are hilarious. Loads of people being angry that DA:I got a lower score than DAII. People are actually going 'well DAII got a higher score, so i will just not buy DA:I'.

These scores are great, really glad that Bioware was afforded the time to make this game to a really high/polished standard. Easily my most anticipated game this year and it bodes well for Mass Effect 4 too. Can't wait to dive in.

I must resist buying this at the moment!Too many games too little time.
I'm glad it's turned out good though, maybe I'll get it when there's a drought next year.
I won't be able to resist playing a few hours on EA Access though.

Fair enough, I wrongly thought you were making one of the "Videogamer is too negative" posts that keep cropping up this past month or so.

Where can i read up on the story of the first two games? Never played any Dragon Age before. I'd like a short and streamlined version of the things happening.

That bit from Eurogamer is concerning. Also the "weak plot" and "easy combat" from IGN and GS.

Good reviews overall.. I'm locked into GTA5, but DAI is looking like my second purchase this month.. ACU looks horrible, FC4 looks like a re-skinned FC3. So, DAI seems like the easy choice.

The Eurogamer review is strange. It's appears on the surface to be fairly critical, yet gives the game a very generous score.

Having read the review in full, I'm a little more wary about getting this. It seems like the reviewer disliked a lot of the things that also turned me off when I watched previews.

This in particular makes me think I won't enjoy it;

Inquisition takes as many cues from the likes of Assassin's Creed as other RPGs, with its maps a sack of quests, collectibles, secret bits and general things to do.

Both the Kotaku preview and RPGFan reviews make it clear that the meaty side missions generally outweigh the fetch quests, and in some cases, menial quests lead to the discovery of important stuff.

So, there seem to be many fetch quests but I doubt in the way Assassin's Creed and other similar games play them.

How do you mess that up? Bummer.

It was always like that notice how there was a max level of 25 in origins but the average player reached like 16? That's because there was a metric butload of that crap in DA:O.

Playing Origins atm, getting fricking hype! This looks soooooooooo much better the return to shit mountain. I really hope the characters are as fleshed out as in Origins, love them all, and the banter between them was really awesome.

This is me, I'll be getting an Xbox One bundle soon and I'm trying desperately to decide between the bonus game. GTA5 or this.

I'm leaning more towards DA 3 right now.
Wait, so you're not going to get DA:I for PS4? I thought we were going to play MP together!

I thought we were bros! ;_;

There is no walkthrough of the story, is there? Only clickable decisions for setting up a world for inquisition. I just want to read a rundown of the previous events.

Try this. Mind that the Keep does provide you with a summary if you press the play button, the tapestry is only there to revise your decisions, there's no much context though.

https://dragonagekeep.com/en_US/

This is the Dragon Age Keep, it works both as a small recap of events and to set decisions from previous games, I recommend you give it a try only after you've done some reading about them and have more of a general idea of things. You can either choose to alter things or leave the default world state that BioWare provides, it's up to you.

Edit- You need an Origin account for this, just so you know. You're probably going to want to use it if you're getting Inquisition though so better get familiar with it now.

https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL7pGJQV-jlzAYFb3DMtimVGD3kT1HEVIH

This is a playlist with a series of videos detailing the Dragon Age setting's lore and history, if you're completely new to the series I recommend you watch them, they're short and up to date. They don't really work as a recap of the previous games though, just so you know.

http://dragonage.wikia.com/wiki/Dragon_Age_Wiki

The Wiki has extensive information on all things Dragon Age, I recommend you read the plot summaries about Dragon Age: Origins, Dragon Age Origins Awakening, Dragon Age II and DA2's Legacy DLC.

This should more or less get you up to speed, remember that the Keep might be a little overwhelming if you didn't play/remember the others so, again, look at it only after you've got a good idea.
The Wiki is your best bet for a summary tbh.

When I first went to the page it gave me a run down of the two games and allowed me to make basic choices, then it unlocked the tapestry thing where you can go in and make a lot more choices.

Once at the tapestry there is a play button on the top right of the screen, that will play both games as a story and it lasts about 20 minutes, it gives you the chance to make choices too.
