Steam "Exploration Sale" -- i.e. Autumn Sale -- now live (November 26 - December 2)

Anyone else having problems running the Evil Within Demo.

It says "failed to create xaudio2 engine. Please install latest directx"

I'm on Win 8.1 and have the latest DirectX?

Just a thought, but check the game demo's install folder inside the Steam folder and see if there's a folder with another version of DirectX included.

So is this the Christmas sale or what? Usually they have a big sale which runs over the xmas period.

That's the Winter Sale. This is the Autumn Sale. The former has traditionally had some sort of metagame to it while the latter is usually just a straight-up sale
or way to escape server overload for Black Friday/Cyber Monday by spreading it out over a series of days.

Is Lords of the Fallen worth picking up for someone who usually likes 3rd person games with good combat controls, like the Arkham series and Shadow of Mordor? I'm all about the controls (hate the Assassin's Creed series because of the combat).

I would be very careful about getting LODF. It has severe stability issues for many users, especially for those using NVidia cards. I got the game when it came out and even after 3 patches I can't play it for more than 20-30 minutes without a crash to the desktop.

Lots of people experiencing the same problem. Check the Steam forums for more details.

It's locked for activation. Used Hideman to add the game to my collection and now it's open for play.

It should be noted that using a VPN to bypass regional restrictions technically falls under the banner of using trickery to circumvent region-specific pricing on Steam itself, which may draw Valve's ire.

Thanks. There wasn't one. :(

Everything on my wishlist is on sale.. (again)

Nope nope, not happening again. I'll actually wait for dailies this time.

This really cant be stated enough. I joined the PC gaming scene a year ago and went completely overboard on buying games because 'everything was such a good deal!'. I completely regret it.

Its nice to have these games, but the large majority of them are still sitting unplayed today because there's really only so much time. And I think that's another thing to remember - most of you will never have time to play every good game out there. So many games will be appealing sounding and a good price, but are you actually going to play it in the near future? Honestly answer that and don't buy it if you aren't sure you'll play it.
This is good advice. I have lots of games I want to play, but I never do for one reason or another. Unless you are a collector or have money to burn, you'd do well by waiting until you're ready to play it. Don't make the same mistakes that some of us did and buy tons of stuff you'll never touch :P

I'm still proud of my Steam library, even though it's missing some games that were removed from the store.

2 things.

1. Jase, that girl keeps getting more and more beautiful with time it seems

2. I resisted for about half a day. Buying Long Dark.

Considering Lords of the Fallen but I have barely even touched Dragon Age or FC4. I'll probably just wait until Christmas

Technically you are of course correct but realistically I would be very surprised to see anything done about this especially considering the thousands of copies of Valiant Hearts that got activated in the same way due to the price error and nothing has ever come of it.

It will 100% be on sale for the same amount you see now. There really isn't a point, unless you want to play it now, or you have nothing else to play.

Just a note for everyone, what you see here in terms of sale amounts will be the same during the Christmas sale, VERY rarely does a game go any cheaper than what is shown during the Black Friday/Thanksgiving/Autumn Sale.

I'm tempted to buy The Evil Within but I wonder if it will go lower during the Winter sale (already beat it on PS4 but loved it). The game is region locked too right?

Okay. Got the demo to work. I had to install some DirectX SDK thing from 2010. WTF.

Lords of the Fallen has more in common with the Souls series than those games listed.

Is Lords of the Fallen a good substitute for my Dark Souls fix until Bloodborne?

How long is it?
I'd say so, assuming you played through all the Souls games and their DLCs. I clocked about 24 hours for NG (barely touched NG+ yet) but I really took my time, revisited areas to try to find secrets etc. I also picked the hardest path (Rogue) to start with. It's not a very big or long game, but it's not offensively short either.

It's a good game, but not an amazing one. It's really Dark Souls lite, inferior to the Souls games in every aspect except graphics (on a technical level, geometry etc.) but even Dark Souls lite is not bad at all.

I just got a refund on shadow of mordor so I have £30 sitting in my account at a rather opportune time. I am eyeing up Lords of the Fallen but seeing gameplay videos puts me off a little it looks a little floaty combat wise.
Um... what do you mean by "floaty combat", exactly? If anything it's pretty "heavy", really...
