Console exclusives on PC

Seems to be the start of a new trend this gen that big third party exclusives are also on pc.

FF14
Street Fighter 5
Ryse
Dead Rising 3
Rise of Tomb Raider

Is there more and how do you feel about it?

I feel great.

Let's continue spreading the idea that PC is not competing with consoles if this is the result.

Considering these new consoles are basically mid range PC's, it's hardly surprising. It also proves that Steam (and digital distribution in general) is working wonders on PC.

I think it's fantastic.
If console warriors want to pretend PC doesn't matter, and PC players get a bunch of games i'm totally okay with that, I quite like playing games and not being made to purchase a $400+ console to play them is great.

Better than leaving money on the table. I'm not going to buy an Xbox for Tomb Raider. But I would definitely buy it on PC.

Is it a new trend though? It happened last gen with e.g. Mass Effect 1 and Alan Wake.

Of course, it seems much quicker and more prevalent now.

I think it's great because I think this may be the only way some of these games will be able to be played several years from now when the old consoles can't connect to PSN or Xbox Live anymore to download day 1 patches that fix broken games.

Third party fine. First party never I'd hope.

Why do you hope that games won't be available to PC?

I hope that PC eventually gets every game, I understand the need for Console Exclusives, but if a game can be put out on PC later, and it no longer is a system seller title, then put it on PC and let more people enjoy it.

It's a great trend, and fits perfectly with how I consume games, I am usually a year or two behind on big AAA games, so I am constantly picking up what were giant behemoths, for only 5-15 bucks on sale. Usually with all DLC included, and patched to work much better than they did on release.

More prevalent in the marketing nowadays it seems.

At least its more in your face about it.

It's nice because Sony and Microsoft don't see the PC as competition, while the publishers see it as a good market worth to port to. And I'm happy about it, keep them coming.

Most probably with third party exclusives. Console makers want the bragging rights against another while the third parties want to maximise the sales.. I imagine the more third party exclusives we see, the more this will happen.

Doesnt change shit over here. If it's a console game I play it on console. If it's a PC game that's coming to console I play it on console.

I love it. Porting to PC will never result in a worse game, technically, since the hardware can always do what the consoles can do. Unfortunately, the reverse is occasionally not true.

For example, limited RAM in earlier generations resulted in games hampered by small map sizes since developers were heavily into multiplatform development and everything had to be aimed at the lowest common denominator.

The more the merrier, while I understand the concept of people enjoying exclusives as it enhances their choice of platform, exclusivity is detrimental to a sense of shared experience. There is no good reason to restrict one person from having the option to enjoy a game.

What I'm more interested in, is an increase in actual PC games. If games specifically designed with the strengths of the PC in mind are then developed to function on consoles at no expense to the original design, then even better, but I am tired of having console oriented games being the mainstay of the PC market.

It's more prevalent now but its been happening in some form for a long while. Sega ported a quite a few of thier first party games in the 90s. Tomb Raider 2 and 3 had a PS exclusively deal and they still came out on PC.

I wish Sega would at least patch up and dump thier old saturn/arcade ports on GOG.

There is a lot more "CONSOLE EXCLUSIVE" plastered front and center in alot of marketing of games nowadays.

You see entire slides dedicated to that fact in big announcements.

If every game was on every system, what would be the point of having different systems in the first place? Without multiple systems you don't get competition and without competition you get stagnation and regression.

Exactly. Having different systems that can play different games is so artificial and bad for the consumer.
Competition is healthy, of course, but it should be a competition between games, not between different types of hardware.

Um, yes you would.

Lower bracket hardware is all it would be. People still buy that stuff.

i appreciate this trend

no need to buy overpriced, shoddy hardware and pay to play p2p online with others

and get the best versions of games

pc ftw

Um, yes you would.

"Letting more people buy your games is bad for competition for developers" is literally what he is saying.

My brain cant really get a grasp on that logic...

The only people that lose out are the hardware manufacturers that dont get to tout games as exclusives.

I think things would be just fine if every game came to every system. It doesn't seem to be an issue with film studios and blu-ray players.
