First Street Fighter 5 Gameplay - Ryu vs Chun-Li

That's not a significant enough of a colour difference to be functional in gameplay IMO, and it would have been more distinct I feel if there was a difference. Plus the first hit's origin is within Chun's model, so you don't get to see the circle origin of the spark, whereas the particle coming out of it are white in all the cases.

I think we're just getting confused because of the clipping.

I'll have to see the video again, but was the zoom part of the trailer and was there a difference in sound effects? Seeing how some normal attacks were causing guard breaks, maybe those are indications your guard is about to break.

I like how the characters are still moving slightly during what's supposed to be the hit stop. Mesmerizing animation. Though I don't like the dust special effects for blocking, need something more visually visible.

Really liked what I saw in those matches. Haven't used Chun as my frontline main in a while but I am very interested in seeing more of those standing triple punches (MP?).

Give me barren stages any day.

Not every game needs a bunch of guys in the BG jumping up and down and falling over.

Yup!

The zoom seems to be a trailer effect. But the first hit does have a different whistle-y sound. Perhaps to indicate an overhead? Does seem odd though, now that I watch it again.

As far as I can tell, normal attacks only cause guard breaks when Ryu is lightning-powered and applying pressure. We haven't seen a guard break outside of that scenario where they were showing off his charge, which makes me inclined to believe it's part of his ability. Either be completely aggressive and get the potential for a guard break, or risk losing your 2 bar investment if you get hit. I like that idea.

Also, didn't you do some art for the inside of the SSFIV case or something? Cody, if I remember correct? Man, time fucking flies. That was 5 years ago, JUST as I joined GAF. This announcement is bringing me back in so many different ways. It really does feel special.

Why are you guys calling that stuff a Just Defend instead of just a block?
B/c it's a bit too flashy to be a regular block, but has too much recovery to be a "parry" like we're used to them as. It's still more like a block tho so it's probably functionally similar to a Just Defend.

At least of what we've seen so far...

Eh yeah I ended up helping with the inside cover art for the US release. Its been a long time!

I'm pretty sure the flash effect gets bigger depending on how hard hitting a move is such as a sweep.

like @ 2:49, Ryu does the same effect from his rising upper when Chun li blocks.

I think Ryu loses his sparks after he throws the denjin hadoken, which guard stuns chunli but Ryu doesn't take advantage of it.

Also, I love the stage music and those vocals. Just love it.

Having yoshinori Ono in charge of Street Fighter is a really really good thing. We are fortunate indeed! I want to buy that man so many beers.

I'm very impressed with the stage, character models, and animations. This game is going to look awesome by 2016. I can't believe they even showed off this off so early in production. Now to wait to see what the final product will look like.

Man, despite how just awful I am at Street Fighter, I still can't stop playing the series for the last 20+ years of my life.

Seeing my Street Fighter husbando and waifu fight each other and Chun Li win a match with a pasta bowl on her head after losing the last battle....I'm already in love with Street Fighter 5.

Because blocks don't look like that.
So every block in all the footage (including the live gameplay) are just defends? Go to 2:18 in the official stage demo. Same deal. See any block in this video and slow it down frame for frame. Whiteish blue flash of a circle where the hit connects, followed by white particles everywhere.

Hmmm, I'm really not liking how this looks. Way too slow. I'm guessing the speed nerf is made to try and draw more casual players in. I understand this strategy, but they went way too far.

They should have had Daigo vs Justin play. They've played those characters so long the gameplay could have slightly been faster paced. The walk speed should be very slightly sped up. I'm loving everything else.

Normal attack do chip damage? how do you guys feel about that?

Not a fan of it to be honest. It does seem like chip damage won't kill u anymore even with a projectile but still. I'm guessing they are making 5 more offensive based especially when compared to Defensive Fighter IV.

Maybe there were too many timeouts without it?

I don't see how there could be too many timeouts, do you see how much damage these short combos do? Add in a super and definitely don't see many timeouts happening.

Animation looked great but they're going to take a lot of getting use to. They look a lot more natural and realistic compared to past SF games. I'm not sure what to compare it to since I rarely watch other fighting games, but it doesn't move like a SF game. Maybe that's what people said about SF4 as well when gameplay was first unveiled for that game. I'm not against this new direction though, I welcome it. So I'm really looking forward to being able to try it whenever it comes out.

I love how it looks faster without being significantly faster.

Everything just has so much impact and force behind it, the hits are so satisfying to watch connect.

I am really looking forward to this.

I like the offensive approach a lot, but are you sure chip damage won't kill you even with a special move?

As a 3rd Strike vet, I do indeed get the feel here. Watching a full match was very enlightening compared to the initial reveal. I am interested in this... IF THEY INCLUDE RAINBOW MIKA!

Although if they are going to the 3rd Strike age in the timeline and we get those characters back in 3D like this.... ohhhhhhhh BABY.

Game looks fucking amazing even in this early stage. What I love is just how different Ryu plays from SF4 already. Same goes for Chun. I can't wait until we get more hands on and people find out more about their play styles.

Charlie being in is fucking amazing. I wanted 3 characters to be in SFV; Charlie, Alex and Karin. That's one down and two to go :)

Normal attack do chip damage? how do you guys feel about that?

Promotes more offensive play which on paper is a good thing, but we really won't be able to truly form an opinion about such a mechanic until people have actually played the game for more than just 6mins. It can sound good on paper but I mean just imagine if they have someone like Vega in the game who can poke you to near death with his insane far reaching and spammable normals.
