Today's dumbest thread: I bought a Wii U yesterday, kinda regreting it

I wouldn't consider the several month long droughts between game releases as "little" but that's me.

Zelda, a Starfox game we have seen nothing on, Yoshi and Kirby. So potentially four games total for 2015?

First party (all 2015): Kirby, Yoshi, Mario Maker, Splatoon, Xenoblade X, Devil's Third, Star Fox, Zelda, Project Giant Robot & Project Guard, Mario vs DK, Mario Party 10

Third party (some might not make it out in 2015): Project Cars, Affordable Space Adventures, Rodea The Sky Soldier, Citizens of Earth, RIVE, Assault Android Cactus, Armikrog, Shantae 1/2 Genie Hero, Ninja Pizza Girl, Chariot, SYNC, Adventures of Pip, FAST Racing Neo, Hyper Light Drifter, format.8, Road Redemption, Giana Sisters 2, SteamWorld Heist, Hive Jump, Heart Forth Alicia, Mighty No.9, The Legend of Lobodestroyo, Soul Saga, The Deer God, Hover: Revolt of Gamers, Chromophore: Two Brothers Director's Cut, Aqua Moto Racing Utopia, Dex, Red Goddess: Inner World, The Next Penelope, Frozen State, Swords & Soldiers II, Hex Heroes, Y II K, A.N.N.E, Aztez, ReVen, Nihilumbra, The Unlikely Legend of Rusty Pup, C-Wars, Anima: Gate of Memories, Dusty Raging Fist....

So yea, just four games for all of 2015 on Wii U, I guess.

edit: I know me typing up this list is silly but it was a nice excuse to remind myself of the line-up. Indies with their non-existent PR cycles cause me to forgot a lot of the games that are always announced way too early ;)

I just bought a brand new Wii U Deluxe with the Mario/Luigi Bros games bundled in for £230. Seems a reasonable price and I can't wait to collect it next week!

I was a huge Wii U skeptic but seeing that old Nintendo magic going strong, I just couldn't pass up this generation without feeling regret.

Want to know what the very surprising tipping point was? Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker. It just looks so much fun!

I like my Wii U but I do think it deserves alot of criticism (dat slow AI is only one of them) and I actually still play my PS/360 more than it but I don't regret the purchase at all.

I've played more than a demo though.

Well, new title.
Edit: please play a game before you judge the worth of a console. Although I'm a hypocrit since I haven't bought a PS4 retail game yet despite buying a system at launch.

If we're going to group Gaffers(which I see you're going to do) then you'd realize Sony has a huge following on GAF, Nintendo and the Wii U doesn't. It receives plenty of hate/criticism that's well deserved. This thread isn't it.

Get over yourself.

That is an outright lie. Don't bring console wars stuff here.

It would be worth it for just Smash 4 honestly

This thread is so confusing. You bought the console and 5 games not even 24hrs ago, you played Bayo 2 demo and liked it, you haven't played any of your $250+ worth of software, you want to return it now because it has no games in the future, and the UI is too slow ?

Why don't you just play the games you bought and stay out of the menus ?

Your goal with this thread is very unclear from your OP. Want to feel better about your purchase? If you regret it, you regret it, just return the stuff if you can and donate some of the money to charity or something.

don't be so impulsive with your spending habits in the future. especially for something that's over $200, you should have done much more thorough research. all the problems you listed are well known. that's why the system is selling so poorly. another thing: "hype" is never a justification to do anything. never believe "hype." it's a tough lesson to learn, but learn it now and you will be much better off in the future. these companies (sony, microsoft, nintendo, ubisoft, etc.) are not your friends. they exist solely to sell you things. always treat someone who is trying to sell you something with suspicion.

I don't agree with the OP either, but the (apparently moderator sanctioned) dogpiling going on in the thread is getting kinda gross.

Ok I'll try to give some actually advice:

1. Will you use multiplayer? Do you have person(s) who you would play with? Would be you be interested in the online multiplayer of Mario Kart and Smash.

2. Are you not interested in any other games? There are quite a few interesting games on Wii U. I would look in to Zombi U and Wonderful 101. There are demos for these titles but they may not be the best representation of the title (especially 101). I would research them and look up opinions. Pikmin 3 also has a demo.

3. 2015 will actually be the most plentiful when it comes to Nintendo exclusives. The titles announced for next year are Kirby Rainbow Curse, Yoshi's Wooly World, Devil's Third, Splatoon, Mario Maker, Mario Party, Star Fox, Xenoblade Chronicles X and Zelda. Look a bit more into these, particularly trailers.

4. Did you have a Wii? If you didn't there is a lot of great software you can catch up on.

Also how can menu slowness be an issue? You really only use the menu if you are posting to Miiverse and using the Web browser. It doesn't seem like you would do any of these things.

Personally the browser is perfectly fine.

Some people shouldn't be allowed to have money.

Then how is Nintendo going to make money off of me if I don't have money? I'm not going to lie Amiibos have me impulse buying left and right. And I shouldn't do it but I do it anyway. So if the OP wants to give money to Nintendo out of impulse let em.

Return it if you're not enjoying it.

Theoretically, I could quite happily return mine (owned since launch) and much prefer the PS4 and XB1 but ultimately it's a decision only you can make. Obviously it's quite a popular console with a vocal segment of GAF so you may not have much in the way of balanced replies (haven't read the whole thread), if I were you I'd try a couple more games to see if they click and if not take it back.

Does the backwards compatibility have any benefit for you too, OP? Play some older titles again or missed out on the first time around?

For some people the game experience entails more than just booting it up once. It's easy to imagine that someone would regret purchasing a console if they feel its underworkings are inadequately structured in a way that limits or complicates their experience.

No, it is incredibly hard to imagine that a console OS, thats not lightning fast but serviceable/ decent would sour the whole experience so that the purchaser wants to return the entire system without trying a single of it´s highly acclaimed games.

Some kid in 1994:

Yeah, I got an SNES with Super Mario World, A Link to the Past, Super Metroid, Final Fantasy VI and and Mega Man X.

But THEN what? After Chrono Trigger, it'll just be collecting dust. >.>

Hey guys, I just bought a cheap PS2 with Shadow of the Colossus, Okami, Zone of the Enders, God of War 2 and Resident Evil 4. Just finished playing the Metal Gear Solid 2 demo, thought it was pretty sweet. I've already got a DVD player though and this controller isn't as comfortable as my remote. Should I return it?

I hope this becomes a new GAF thing. :lol

Return it dude, just don't make a topic about it. The wiiu opinion is only allowed to go one way here.

How dare you, prepare to be run over by the N train now.

You know the Wii U actually turned out OK.

Now everyones starting to act like the wii U is just a bunch of GAF hype. It's the best current gen console on the market which is why GAF backs it

Yep, the Wii U defense squad on this site can be pretty annoying.

How about just a 'common sense' defence squad? I mean who buys a system, plays none of the games they bought with it and then a day later regrets buying the system. Then makes a thread about it to find people that agree with him on said regret, it's just banana cakes.

Well yeah, if you don't like any of those games and none of the upcoming games really entice you, then sell it. Not really any reason to make a thread, in my opinion.

That's why I always wait until there are at least 3 must have games on a system before I spend money on it.

In GAF, no one can hate on Wii U.

Others have said it better, but if you've stayed on GAF for the length of the system's lifespan, you'd see that EVERY ASPECT OF THE WII U HAS BEEN CRITIQUED. From the marketing, to the lack of an Ethernet port to the yellow stripe below the Wii U's logo on the games boxes. Every system has had people hate and love it. That's the opposite of the hive mind mentality you're suggesting.

Again, swap in any system/5 top tier games and the reaction would have been exactly the same.

This is not "defense squad."

EDIT: Didn't realize it was TI82.

You really want to make sure people know you don't like the Wii U, huh?

If anything this thread proves how polarizing opinions can be in GAF as posters here have claimed that there is favoritism with PS4 or WiiU and you are "only allowed to one opinion".

Also some people already has they standard defenses like "posters like this that only care about graphics" when the dude said that he bought it because games (that he has yet to play)

More like nope. Who buys a console and a bunch of universally praised games and plays none of them, makes a thread about it complaining about the OS speed and asking whether to return it or not. Instead of blaming the "Wii U defense force", maybe you/he should blame him/himself. Like it would've been any different if it was about the XBO/PS4/Vita/3DS etc.

I wont go that far.

Ps4 has been fantastic for me as well and has been competing for my time. Smash wins out when friends are around and PS4 wins for solo play

I enjoyed the last of us and played some BF4 with friends. Destiny was okay, but not a good SP experience. However recently picked up Dragon age and really enjoying that

This thread actually made me think of buying a Wii U

I started A Link Between Worlds today and its so good it makes me want to play more Zelda and other Nintendo games

I don't think the Wii U library on its own is enough for me to buy one, but the fact its compatible with Wii makes it worth it, but even the more popular Wii games are not in stock in places I'd usually like to buy from (GAME, BASE and other UK retailers that send games overseas)

Do people buy gaming systems to play games anymore? What's next, you regret your decision because Google made a lousy YouTube app for the thing (which they did... Don't really get why it exists since the browser let's you do more)?

I don't know about that.

This thread would have gone the same way for Xbone or PS4.

"I bought an Xbone yesterday and 5 games that I really want to play. I brought it home and played a demo that I enjoyed. I haven't opened any of my 5 games and I'm thinking of returning everything because I don't really like the UI, and there's only 1 game that I want so far coming out in 2015."

Dogpile ensues.

Yep, the Wii U defense squad on this site can be pretty annoying.

Yeah, because it makes sense wanting to drop any console over its UI, this without unwrapping a single game.

Sure, it's because the people on GAF are biased for Nintendo, of course.

Jesus Christ.

That game was an anomaly (and quite good) compared to the last few Zelda games which were absolute garbage (Phantom Hourglass, Spirit Tracks, Skyward Sword). And is actually my third favorite Zelda game all around (first being link to the past, second being wind waker).
