Halo 5: Guardians Beta Thread | Hot Red on Blue Action

there is NO AR headshot damage. Ram confirmed it and you can verify by checking the weapon of destruction for anyone that has the AR as their weapon of choice. zero headshots 100% of the time.

So because there is no medal for it it totally doesn't have a massive bonus to shots hitting the head? Okay, flawless logic.

I was wondering. Seemed like it wasn't doing anything extra. Thank you

so because there is no headshot awarded for it in game and the devs themselves claim it doesnt exist and because only a vocal minority think it does, i'm wrong? flawless logic. gtfo.

Hilarious that people are complaining that they shouldn't be getting killed by the AR if someone sees them first. If you're a half decent player and you see another player first, you generally kill them with whatever gun you have.

I hope one thing they improve for launch is to work on the visual "clarity" in the game itself. I have no doubt it'll be a "looker" and the Sprint showed us they are working their asses off on each small detail of the maps. But maybe it's me and my eyes going bad or something. But I find the maps dark, there is too much random light and glare, too much haze and "cloudiness" and tint and a washed out look. In the past, the games were much sharper, clearer, with more saturated colors allowing for easy spotting. Coupled with crushed Xbox One blacks, things like ADS/Scopes/digital stuff, it just makes it tough to see enemies clearly sometimes on Truth. Forget about it if you also get Prophets Bane and the solar flare type effect it gives off. Anyone else feel the same way? I wonder if I should get some Gunnar glasses or something. Maybe that'll help.

absolutely, but i'm not counting on it being totally overworked and the problem eliminated. map visibility was one of halo 4's flaws and it doesnt seem like the art direction has changed much since then.

How is everyone using their stabilizers? Do you have it on auto or manual? I spent the first two days with auto off, and I forgot they were even in the game. I tried manual but with bamper jamper it just seemed a little awkward to press a to stabilize. I currently have it set to auto with ADS.

Yeah, I think the art direction in terms of visual clarity has only gotten worse. There seems to be a big disconnect between the balance side and the art side.

Blue team just blends in the background. If you are red team, you might as well quit.

Hide in top dark corner as blue team with long range weapon. ADS with SMG all the time.

I hate this beta.

They should make it an option to make the opponent team always red colored online to make it fair. From your point of view, you are always blue.

I wonder how many times a developer has claimed black and blue that a problem doesn't exist.

Except it's a completely valid argument because longer kill times has always been one of Halo's signatures. Especially with sprint where you can pop out of nowhere, shields should prevent split second assaults with low skill weapons, at least in the sense that the higher skilled player should usually come out on top if he reacts quickly enough.

On another note, the whole idea of placement matches is a fucking joke.

It's entirely a coin toss. Do you get the potatoes on your team? Or is the enemy team the one with the potatoes...

And that skilled play still can. I'm far from good and the amount of times I've shot first and still been killed is crazy.
It doesn't matter how good you are though, if somebody gets the jump on you, you are probably going to die.
Not sure how people aren't grasping that. Sure the AR kills quicker now, that just means the better people will have to react quicker once getting shot or die because they got caught by surprise.

before you insult my logic provide evidence to the contrary. i provided some. it may not be bullet proof, but its infinitely more than you have provided. thanks.

Both teams can blend in way too easily to the backgrounds, but quit? Hide in corners and win? lol

Might be different if it were devs talking PR to a website, but it's not.

Bad hit detection aside, Halo 3's sniper is the one they should look to for balancing inspiration.

The higher skilled player generally does come out on top if they react quickly enough. The difference is, positioning plays a much larger part now due to the increased movement options. If you get surprised by an AR user and try to just turn around and 4shot them, yeah, you're gonna have a bad time. If, however, you use your thruster pack properly (to disengage or disorient), then you'll generally come out on top.

H2A sniper looked and felt so good. They should just use that instead of whatever this thing is supposed to be.

Yup they went with a more horizontal view which makes it feel clunky. It doesn't help that most of the screen is blacked out on the sides.

Ur opponent isnt spraying like mad, they're aiming at you and have a fair shot to take you down.
Auto users have an advantage over semi and burst users. They can hold down the trigger and mostly just worry about the aiming. Semis and burst users have to aim and time their shots and have to consider the consequences of the pause in rate of fire especially if they miss.

Much easier to use an auto.

That being said, BR starts next week so its all good in my book. I dont mind devs testing AR starts.

Edit: the above is range dependent, short to mid I think the autos are easier to get kills with than the burst or semi.

Random matches are going to give me an aneurysm. How do you go 1 and 22. How is that possible.

I've seen a guy go 0-3-24.

Positioning has never been LESS important...

In a terrible position and get caught out? Meh, just thrust and sprint to safety.

Except, any sort of actually "terrible" position will make that basically impossible. Knowing your routes, possibilities, and options is part of the game. Just like in previous games, standing still and trying to trade shots means you'd do worse, now it's all about figuring out where and when to use your thrusters. Do you use it to try and disengage? Or do you know (for instance) that going from Turbine to Pit on Empire is a weak option at best, and instead you try and pull a reversal by jumping and thrusting over their head?

I agree 100%. They've gone overboard with the art, in my opinion. Too many effects, light sources, and the intensity of it all makes it difficult to see players and weapons on the map. The crushed blacks hurt the visual clarity as well which I hadn't realized until recently. You can't see well into some corners and halls because of it. Coupled with things like the intense light sources (like the blue sparks in blue base on Empire) and you have areas that are dark then they're slightly bright which draws your eyes to a specific spot when instead you rather everything be clear so you can spot teammates, opponents, and weapons on the ground. I mentioned Empire above; another example of that are Blue Two and Red Two on Truth. The holograms and the lights cast by them and surrounding light sources are very distracting. They were surely created to be jaw-dropping (which they are) but in my opinion they don't really have a place in MP where the goal is to always focus on players and not vistas & effects. I think both maps could easily be improved by dialing back the intensity of light sources and brightening the darker corridors and halls. And weapons would be more visible if they were cast in some kind of outline or glow and/or had an icon appear above them as the player approached.

No wonder it felt so weird when I used it

Hey, this is pretty cool.

The Halo 2: Anniversary sniper is perfect. Great design, the sound is amazing and the sights work very well.

Josh Holmes said that he also feels that the Halo 5 sniper feels clunky and are looking to make changes in the coming months. Let's hope they can nail it.

Biggest problem is (I think) the noticeable delay when you're calling up the scope. If they axe that, they're basically golden.

Yea, no, just no... You must be terrible with thrust and sprint...

Thanks for supporting me... lol...

Uh.

What?

If you get stuck out in (say) the middle of Red Base on Truth, you're probably dead, thrusters or no thrusters. Trying to drop down into the Pit can sometimes save you, but a lot of the time they'll just follow you and gun you down before you can complete your escape.

What do you think about the rate of fire? I haven't used the H5 sniper a ton but the H2A version I could shoot twice very quickly. The H5 version it takes me much longer to shoot twice. It could just be me and not the gun though.

i actually like that.

Probably no point arguing. Some people just want only BR starts and only have the BR and power weapons in the game.
I'm with you but some people can't be reasoned with.

I wish people could just keep playing their favourite Halo and stop trying to make the new Halo like their preferred Halo.
Halo 2 and CE are by far my favourite, but I am loving Halo 5 so far and wouldn't want to make 5 just like those two.

Rate of fire is low, but I'm not sure how much of a problem that is (if at all), since Empire is sort of an unconventional sniping map. It's got these very long, very narrow lines of fire, so you really need to be making headshots anyway (since odds are good they'll just thrust behind a piece of geometry after the first shot). It may prove to be a big liability on more open maps, but like I said, too soon to call.

Good points. Thanks for the reply.
