I don't follow comic books so from an outside perspective they're just goofy comic book heroes. They don't have the same mindshare as Spider-Man, Iron Man, Cap, Batman, Superman, etc.

Easy to forget since he's everywhere now, but Iron Man didn't have any more mindshare than the FF did until 2008.

Yet again Doom is just Reed's friend turned enemy? Why do they have to go down that road again? Doom is not some prep boy who went to college with Reed. Doom's the gaddam dictator of Latveria who demands your tribute!

Because most times it's more interesting when there is a personal link between the villain and superhero.

That looks more interesting than I expected. The news of reshoots sounds like they're going to push for something more in the Marvel tone which I'm not all that interested in.
Which is a shame. I'm tired of the Mravel monopoly, even if it's not their intention, every studio jumping to have the new GoTG reminds me of all gaming studios sacrificing artistic integrity to make their own CoD. Hopefully the good reaction to this trailer stops Fox' stupid plans and remain with their original vision. Hell, DOFP's success should had done that.

Oh, bitch bitch bitch.
God the salty tears that will result if this is good AND successful at box office. We only have a teaser and some people are already losing it.

To make people care? F4 already had two campy comic-booky movies and they flopped. They're trying something different.

Am I wrong? Is Fantastic Four actually super popular and I just wasn't aware?

There have been times when Iron Man literally didn't have his own series because people cared so little. A huge reason Iron Man and Captain America are so popular now is because they had movies that faithfully adapted their comic books. Then notice that every Fantastic Four movie so far have been turds that completely miss the mark on how their comic book feels. It's pretty simple to see that the faithful adaptations in these movies are what gives the characters the mind share.

No one even knew who the Guardians Of The Galaxy were when that movie got announced, now it's one of the biggest movies of the year with merchandising out the ass. The best way for the Fantastic Four to get more of that mind share is to get a movie that captures why people like the characters in the first place.
It's only a complete tonal shift if you don't think this is borrowing heavily from Ultimate Fantastic Four.
Well when they base their comic off one of the least interesting runs for the characters they shouldn't be surprised that people are complaining either. The people that are fans of the Fantastic Four were never begging for an Ultimate Fantastic Four adaptation.

Oh this looks good, Fox really knows how to turn comic books into something interesting instead of a cheap campy superhero movie like we have been getting lately

Iron Man and GOTG didn't either until their MCU movies dropped.

The FF aren't super popular, but they are beloved by many comic book fans - myself included.
Last sentence doesn't make sense.

He wants it to bomb so the studio will stop trying and give the rights to Marvel most likely. Even if he doesn't care about the F4, the rogues gallery would be a huge get for Marvel Studios.

I want 2 things:

-I want a family science adventure trilogy starring the FF. I want it bright and warm and focused on what makes a family work.

-I want Doom, Galactus & Annihilus in the MCU. Everyone's too scared to step away from the "dark gritty reboot" and MCU is out here dropping Celestials in movies.

FF deserves better than this and if this movie has to bomb and everyone involved loses their careers in order for that to happen, then so be it.

The ends justify the means.

Like the current head of state for North Korea even the gaddam dictator of Latveria went to University in a foreign country.

Dead

well not really...yet
This is certainly borrowing some plot points from UFF, but UFF was seldom as dark and rarely as hard sci-fi as this appears to be.
Uff was at its best when it was full on sci-fi, when Ellis and Carey wrote it.

I wish they would use Goat feet Doom.

lol, Fox has made superhero movies far far worse than anything Marvel has ever turned out.

The Ellis issues did have more of a hard SF approach, you're right, but they also had plenty of comedy.

I don't recall Carey's run being particularly hard, though.

Lol what's the story behind that anyways

No idea. In the Ultimate Universe, each of the Fantastic Four was "merged" with an element to give them powers: Thing with rock, Johnny with fire, Sue with Air, and Reed with Water.

Doom got metal, which gave him his standard appearance but also goat legs....for whatever reason.

Warren Ellis gave Ultimate Doom goat legs as part of his mutation. He ended up a slum lord for a bit.

Then Mark Millar came in and basically erased all that and just wrote him and had him drawn as regular doom.

The teaser seems fine. There really isn't enough there to form a negative opinion.

Perhaps this movie will be decent...but probably not. :p

Did they not hand-wave goat Doom as a doombot or something? I can't recall.

Same guy who wrote Fantastic Four story also wrote those movies

I love how your image only includes one of his "fresh" films. Of course movies like X-Men: Days of Future Past (91%) are clearly irrelevant.

Many of the films you listed he wasn't even the main screenwriter unlike Days of Future Past.

Edit: And look at all the people who fell for your bullshit image.

I think I blocked that from my memory.

I agrih. Their 2014 output was good but before that it was all just so extra. Fox stays making superior Marvel movies.

The script was the worst part of both movies though.

Same guy who is writing the upcoming Dr. Strange film also wrote the Conan reboot and Sahara.

That's being rewritten, but I forget by who. Prometheus guy I think? (Not Lindelof)

After all the talk of us shitting on the movie without seeing any footage...we've now seen some footage. It is what we thought it was all along.

Grim dark 4. /sigh
