So if Solid Snake and Solidus are both clones...

Also, how come no one notices that the President looks exactly like an international terrorist?

The President's reputation was moot by that point. Solidus letting word of Shadow Moses getting out into the public meant that the Patriots meant to cap his ass. Instead they sought to utilize him in the S3 plan and had Ocelot pretend to take him "underground" so to speak until his little insurrection at Big Shell was able to take place.

Solidus abruptly left the public eye and everyone's attention was diverted to the 2008 elections.

How does this make any sense?

Big Boss = sperm
Japanese lady = egg
Eva = belly space for 9 months and vagina

edit: Also it's worth pointing out that Big Boss only shot blanks because of his presence in automatic tests which necessitated the whole clone thing in the first place, just as it spurred Solidus taking another's child (Raiden) as his own

Man so much misinformation in this thread. Pretty much all of the supposed "plotholes" people are complaining about have already been explained.

because mgs2 is stupid

You're stupid
:)

I understand the actual explanation, but I always imagined that this was the "real" answer.

On a serious note: Whoever wrote the script for Liquid's lamentations in MGS1 didn't understand the scientific significance of dominant and recessive genes. Liquid used it like a quality declaration, unless Big Boss just happened to have only "good" dominant genes and "flawed" recessive genes.

I think the explaination of this is that since BB was known as the perfect soldier. Liquid not having BB dominant traits, made him feel inferior.

I don't understand why Solidus is a clone, but sounds like the most over the top bad guy. He then turns out to not be evil, but then laughs about killing Raiden's parents and becomes bad for that reason alone. On top of that, Big Boss is very gentle and doesn't speak over the top at all. Meanwhile, all of his children are clones. They all are very distinctive. This is probably why Kojima wants a reboot. He has matured past his Japanese roots and only wants the insane quirks to be easter eggs and 4th wall. Phantom Pain looks to take the tone more seriously. He has been called out a lot on his mistakes and wants to fix the logic that holds the series from being perfect.

The weirdness and convoluted of MGS is why it's my favorite franchise. I'm actually not that hyped for 5 because it seems like he's making it more "mature". Which is annoying because we can get that anywhere else.

TBH does anything in the MGS story make sense?

Pretty much 99% of it does. MGS is one of the few series where it's creator tries hard to explain every little plothole. 4 was a mess because he tried to explain all of 2s crazy plot twists. Yes that made it a bad game, but I am a continuity whore so I have crazy respect for Kojima for doing that just to explain things.

I actually wished he had graying hair on The Phantom Pain.... =(

Same.

I think an actual plothole is how the hell was Solidus able to become the president. The Les enfants terribles project took place in 1972 and Solidus was president during the Shadow Moses Incident which was in 2005. Which would make him 33. 2 years too young to be pres.

Accelerated aging, plus The Patriots put him in the presidency, so fake birth certificate and pretty much all papers about him.

For a series that still bases it's canon on MSX games from the 80s, I honestly think Metal Gear does a remarkably good job of keeping it's continuity straight. There are minor inconsistencies here and there, but on the whole I'm always really impressed at how well everything fits together when I re-play the series.

looks identical when its a figurine lol. But wait, wasn't big boss in mgs4 made from solidus snake?

I don't know why he didn't notice the president was his second clone.

Why pick up on this as an improbable plot hole? Did anything else in the games strike you as improbable?

It's one of the most ridiculous oversights in the series. Fans can twist the story however they want to fit the narrative but simply put it was a stupid mistake to make.

yet clark kent takes off his glasses and suddenly nobody knows he's superman, which is totally cool.

So if one hasn't gotten around to playing the series, it's "Sucks for you. We spoiled it for you. Should've played it when we did"? Ridiculous.

Everyone who has ever wanted to play Metal Gear Solid 2 should've done so already.

By the way, Aerith dies in Final Fantasy VII.

That's why Sony was re-releasing the game as recently as a year ago, right?

I finish MGS for the first time last week. I'm planning on starting MGS2 in a few days. I don't mind the "spoilers", since I understand that it's an oldish game and I know that this is not truly a plot twist or anything... But come on, man. Drop the attitude.

What "attitude"? I'm just telling the truth. So now we have to avoid stuff like "Aerith dies" just because some people haven't played an ancient game? I understand the need to avoid spoilers for relatively new games, but these games are old, very old.

Isn't the thread title a spoiler?

Its a spoiler without any context. I said this before but the name Solidus, who it belongs to, and the importance of it are all reveleaed at pretty much the same time. Anyone reading the thread title with no information as to what it means will not have the game spoiler for them besides knowing that Solid and Liquid have a brother.
When the Plant Chapter begins the player only knows that theres a terrorist group that has hijacked the Big Shell being lead by someone calling themselves Solid Snake. Its only after the Harrier battle do we find out that the name Solidus Snake even exists, and its then that he reveals himself. Before then we only see Solidus in silhouette, without knowing who he is besides being the dude who is leading this whole hijacking.

Offtopic question here, but what's the most trustworthy site to get the revoltech figure of Solidus? He looks so damn sexy.

Solidus was revealed to be a clone at the end of MGS1 so it isn't really a spoiler for 2.

Die in a fire.

You're going a little far with that.

You like MGS4 and you call her "Aerith".

Isn't mgs2 all a simulation anyway? Meaning, he isn't really the president but it was all just an elaborate ploy to put raiden through a situation which emulated the events of Shadow moses?

That's what I took from the story. I don't think solids was actually the president since he was pretty consciously going against the patriots.

You shouldn't have to walk on eggshells regarding spoilers for people about a 14 year old game. Don't be rediculous.

He was actually president. It was a simulation in several ways. Theres even a theory that the entire game was a VR simulation.

Disregarding the VR theory though, it was a simulation in the sense that all the events were orchestrated, predicted, and culminated in Raiden completing his mission.

Don't have a cow, man.

You DO know that's the current canon spelling of the name, right? And regarding MGS4, you are in the minority, brah. Just lettin' you know.

You seem to have a personal issue with me. Chill out.

Lol I'm only teasing you. And Aerith is a stupid name, I give a fuck about canon.

Man, you guys forgot already?

Liquid and Solid are not perfect clones. They have extra genetic material since the cloning process wasn't perfected.

Liquid and Solid are perfectly identical. Snake is blonde naturally, but dyed his hair for the Shadow Moses incident. The PS1 didn't render their faces perfectly due to the hardware limits. The Twin Snakes shows identical models save for hairstyle.

Solidus is a perfect clone of Big Boss, hence the big plot point in MGS4.

Also the aging process seems to be accelerated with Solidus, similar to Snake's in MGS4.

It was a simulation in the strictest sense of the word-The Big Shell itself was set up to emulate what happened in Shadow Moses. Solidus was a president, and just as the Patriots planned he went to the big shell to kidnap the current president.

Walk on eggshells??? The thread title could've been something else easily without spoiling it for people. I guess as long as it doesn't affect your enjoyment, it's ok. Whatever.

Man I just dislike the plot element of solidus being president. Like, it really does raise a few eyebrows. You think someone would have noticed the extremely fast aging of the president. And likewise, snake probably should have been aware of their similarities.

He was only prez for 4 years, he probably didn't age much in that time, or enough for people to notice.

Also, people already acknowledge that stress tends to leave presidents looking more aged/haggard/etc. by the time their presidency is over, so it could easily be justified that way if he did seem older than he should have over the course of four years.

maybe he noticed or maybe he didn't, but solid snake is not the kind of person to give a fuck either way. what would happen? "oh, the president looks like Big Boss huh, man that's kind of a bummer" and then keep raising dogs

Regarding the spoilers...

I'm pretty sure that Ocelot says that Solidus is the third clone and the president in the post credits scene of MGS1. So you don't even need to play MGS2 to know that. It's still a spoiler, yes... but c'mon >_>

Hang on now...

The title may be slightly spoilery, but in all likelihood is something most will overlook. That being said, proclamations that someone "should have played it by now" and the acompanying hostilities are not warranted.

Clear your weapons. Forums are for debate not argument.

Hmmm I don't think so, Ocelot is talking to the President, but there's no mention of Solidus iirc. Pretty sure he's only introduced in MGS2.
