Final Fantasy XV Demo Previews/Impressions Thread

That Pikachu is from Pokémon Mystery Dungeon. Those games are stealthily some of my favourite games of all time. They do get pretty dark and twisted actually. :)

I guess it was better acted in the Japanese version then because I didn't have a problem with it either.

I don't think I had a strong reaction to that particular scene when seeing it for the first time. It just became a meme I guess.

It's been a while since I played the first one.

That's part of the point. You'd be hard pressed to make a case for Caladbolg being a good choice to "appeal to the west." I wonder how many FFX players in the west had ever even heard of Caladbolg before acquiring it in the game. I wouldn't be surprised if it was a single digit figure, it's obscure as hell. I'm sure the change annoyed far more "literal translation purists" like myself.

And BTW, what "translation"? Ultima Weapon is already in English! =P

It's why I find Caladbolg a more compelling localization change, rather than just calling it Ultima Weapon again. Gives Tidus' weapon a flavor, rather than. "Ohh I got Tidus' Ultima Weapon."

More like Engrish: "アルテマウェポン, Arutema Wepon" localized to Atma Weapon, then to Ultima Weapon.

It's out in 6 days.

Combat is good. Performance is bad. Invisible walls, yes. Stella is in the glovebox. That's most likely the big surprise at the end of the demo.

Thanks!

Hmm... Good is good. Eh, some slowdown doesnt really bother me too much in games like this. Hrm, Invisible walls do really bother me in games like this, but honestly, I really saw it coming. At least they didnt put Stella in the fridge. Wonder what cheetohs are called in final fantasy.

Thanks!

Well, invisible walls were mostly for demo purposes (no swimming, no going beyond the demo area, etc.)

You can still jump off a cliff if you want (there is fall damage though).

Thanks!

Technical optimization comes towards the end of a game's development and the release is still at least a year away, anyway.

Most important thing is that everybody so far enjoyed the combat, which obviously is only the basic foundation (Magic, Summons and AI customization aren't in the demo).
Check these short, nice previews:

Damn I wonder what games like XIII-2, LR, and Skyrim played like before this so called optimization.

Thanks!

Invisible walls are just so you don't leave the Duscae region in the demo. Also since swimming isn't enabled in the demo it sounds like there are some that block you from going too deep into water.

In the final game there probably won't be any invisible walls unless the land mass isn't a full island and you can't wander too far off the main game map (like Skyrim or Oblivion). Also swimming has been shown, but we haven't seen it since E3 2013.

I'm getting Type 0 on tuesday

Am I correct in the understanding that this demo also becomes available on tuesday?

I knew at one point they said "later"

then it was "Sooner than you think"

That line is in the Japanese version though.

She says something similar, but it doesn't sound as stupid as what she says in the english version :) (Different connotation)
I researched it, and she actually says "Women are weak, mothers are strong"

I remember this because i played the japanese version first. I also remember how some things were altered for the english dub and they sounded pretty weird as result...

You think or you know? :D I know which Summon it is, but have no clue about anything else. I'll wait for a good quality stream of the whole demo next week.

I'm saying that because they promised we'd be able to summon =p

And the press release from saturday mentioned this too.

So it's even worse in the Japanese version....

I am pretty sure they said we could play with the summon.

Oh okay, must have missed that. Somehow assumed that there would only be a set piece encounter. Can't wait to see if that is the "HOLY 'ISH" moment that Jason Schreier mentioned in his recent preview:
"I'm avoiding spoilers in this write-up, but I will say that the battle ends with a "HOLY SHIT" moment the likes of which I expect we'll see many of in Final Fantasy XV, followed by a spoilery tease for the main game, which still has no official release date."

You should try not to spoil yourself on this if you plan on playing it, IMO
EDIT: Oh, hey! Funny coincidence, didn't see you posting before I wrote that^^

I think I have a theory about what happens:
Ramuh helps the party defeat the Behemot for whatever reason.

LOL man.

I see where you guys are coming from, but first off: It was a quip on my part, more than anything else. Secondly, "Moms are tough" is a goofy ass line and I explained why when I quoted Kagari.

I just think it comes off very akward and cheesy and they should've written something that better conveys the intent. That's just my fake. We don't need to get so emotional though.

If the
Ramuh
summon is the super cool "holy shit" moment, thats kind of dissapointing. We already knew it was coming.

Doesn't mean that they can't do anything special with that summon. We literally know nothing about it other than it being big in size.

I need to watch your posts for prophetic visions/notices more often!

please don't

half the reason i still don't have an avatar is because trolling and vague hint-dropping is so much easier when people are unsuspecting

ditto lack of punctuation/caps

There is one aspect of gameplay I'm iffy about, that is the little stealth/tailing section prior to Smoke Eye's fight. We have to follow it to its lair, but apparently if you get caught or you lose it, you have to restart the process. I think people will hate that.

If it's what it takes to get an appropriate amount of sneaking in the full game, I'm all up for it going in the demo as is and accruing a shit ton of negative feedback.

calm down, i was joking, and we didn't specifically ask, either

Hahah I'm not mad/worked up or anything, I'm just saying it would've been nice of them to ask if you guys would like to try it.

I actually wouldn't personally mind stealth sections in the game, as long as it's not too difficult or lengthy. It's definitely something I expected from this game when I noticed the stealth section in the E3 gameplay trailer (and after seeing all the set pieces too)
