Why is everyone going on about this Diary of Ann Frank? I found it pretty poor. I never had a vagina and was hunted by the nazis, how could i possibly relate.

The last part of Momma...smh why rappers do that shit :(?

The spitting be glorious, but they want to fade it out leaving me wanting more...

Sounwave interview on the creation of the album. Says they went through three phases of the album, which seems to confirm my view that Kendrick scrapped an album before moving in a drastically different direction.

Everyone’s wondering who LoveDragon is; they are credited with two beats on the album (“How Much A Dollar Cost” and “You Ain’t Gotta Lie”). Do you know who LoveDragon is?

[Laughs] LoveDragon? You might have to talk to somebody else on that one. I keep that one up in the air for the right time for whenever that person wants to come out.

You’re only adding to the mystery here.

[Laughs] Hey, hey, I’m not the one to spill the beans on it or whatever. They wanna be known, they’ll be known.

Could it be Dre? Before the album came out Sounwave tweeted "track 11, Dre back" but quickly deleted it. He also is credited for this. Love that track.

Damn, I thought I would've been one of the more positive voices when it came to this album, but the runaway praise has kicked in and a whole lot have caught the fever. King Kendrick indeed.

sorry Dre, but.... Shit, this album made Kendrick my favorite artist now... Go-...GOMENNASAI!

Sounds like Dre...especially "How much a dollar cost". I know Dre's snares.

Those drums on How Much a Dollar Cost definitely sounded like Dre's.

Dre releasing Detox with a different name as some unknown producer dude would be the greatest troll job in the history of music.

This is so good on my home stereo, been running through it a couple times now. Glad I waited for the CD, but for some reason a couple of the tracks didn't rip cleanly to my PC. Might be my drive, cuz the CD is running fine, and for some reason it was ripping Mortal Man forever.

Boy I'm dumb, Before reading reviews I thought Mortal Man was Kendrick talking to his father (because of the offspring comment) and other parts didn't make sense to me. Knowing it's Tupac quotes it makes much more sense.

I love how they separate For Free musically from the rest of the album to show Kendrick's attitude before he made it. when Kendrick is rapping it's over some pretty standard jazz changes with the instrumentation being drums, a double bass, and piano. pretty sure it's the only instance on the album where a double bass is used instead of an electric one. it's also a chord progression that would be right at home in a pre-kind of blue world. I know Kendrick said he was big on Miles while making this album. this makes the music sound dated compared to the rest of the album because it is and so is that Kendrick. that Kendrick doesn't exist anymore, or has at least evolved to where the older version of himself seems very different. of course the music is dramatically different when lucy is yapping because, well, she's the fucking devil.

I swear this album feels like a Spike Lee joint. Reminds me of random screen cuts from Do The Right Thing and School Daze...

Imma say it. Been listening more and I feel like this album is a bit on the pretentious side, rather than something actually meaningful. The ending of Mortal Man in particular, felt gaudy and didn't evoke anything substantial for me.

The album's concept just doesn't feel genuine. Where as GKMC had so much soul to the album.

I think Kendrick is too self-criticizing on the album to be pretentious. He's definitely insanely talented either way.

tpab is Kendrick's soul

I dont know what to think. The album isn't bad, but it doesn't live up to my expectations. A lot of the songs share too much with each other, ill be listening to a song on the second half that I swore I already listened to. Album needs more variety.

GKMC >>> Butterfly > Section 80

The Blacker the Berry and Hood Politics at my favorites.

I'm gonna keep listening to the album because I have liked it, but just not how I wanted to.

Yeah, I'm feeling this now.

Getting deep vibes from this. When you string together the chain of events and emotions from start to finish, it becomes a masterpiece. Man. I feel like Kendrick went on a soul searching mission and this is what he produced from it.

After a couple of days I'm still having a difficult time selecting a favorite song the album flows so well I'm just beginning to really grasp the lyrics and narrative that runs throughout the project.

Definitely one of my favorite albums.

After listening to the first few tracks I had a feeling how the rest of the album was going to play out. I wasn't too fond because I expected a GKMC 2 and didn't get that. By the end of the album I was shook. I didn't realize he was talking to Tupac either until my brother pointed it out. After my second full playthrough of the album it clicked with me. I've listened it so many times and I think at this point Wesley's Theory is my favorite track followed by How Much A Dollar Cost. Good job Kendrick. I'm glad you took a different path and made another timeless classic. You made an album I didn't know I wanted.

Just wanted to add to the praise here ... absolutely fantastic album ... will be a fucking shame if this thing doesn't win multiple awards ... been listening nonstop since release ...
