Splatoon |OT| Squidstyler

So trying to be good and not kick my daughter off the tv this morning. She's 4 and I've even bribed her with playing with the splatoon amiibos.

I need my fix.

Am I the only one that had to turn down the sensitivity? Even using the pro controller it was way too fast moving. Maybe I am just getting too old for this shit.

just beat the 3rd boss in the single player

loving it so far. so Nintendo.

also just unlocked the aerospray mg and rg so now it's time to get sucked back into the multiplayer haha

It's a budget title in Europe.

is this to make up for the humble bundle? lol

I'm fine with the vertical, but the horizontal tilt doesn't seem sensitive enough. So it's either way too little from tilt, or way too much from stick. Combining the two feels awkward, so it'll take time to develop those skills and I'm using player movement as a bit of a crutch.

Although, the resolution on tilt controls doesn't seem very high, so lowering sensitivity may give the illusion of it being better, so it could help in that sense.

If the game fails in America but does well elsewhere, I wonder if they're going to realize it's because they priced it higher here.
I feel like they'd take some completely crazy thing away instead.

"Americans don't like cartoons"
"Americans only like blood"
"We need the inklings to have even more attitude"

Forgot to mention it last night, but joining friends works pretty damn well. Had a few hours last night where me and four other friends joined on each other without any problems. Getting tossed around teams didn't bug us any, so we had an absolute blast.

Just sucked when they all ended up as a team and I was with randoms, etc, but only because they typically knew my playstyle and how to counter it. :p

Edit: I would also recommend painting walls if you have a good weapon for it. Walls are often overlooked by your team and the enemy. Because of the former, painting walls will give the enemy more to undo if they get into your territory. Because of the latter, they probably won't bother. It takes a bit of practice to learn how to do efficiently, but it's the best action "as a support" for your team.
Naah, walls don't give you points. However, it's a good advice to paint walls and climb to high ground. Running around on the ground floor can be challenging early on.

That's just for Battle Dojo, though.

You think people read those?

Most just treat GAF as some kind of personalized gaming news google service.

Well, I know they rarely do (shoutouts to Regiruler) but some might actually look before they ask and find it there. :)

How long is the sp?

I was hoping to beat it before trying mp.

Not too long. I'm on the last area with all scrolls so far at a little over 3 hours. Obviously times will vary.

It's honestly fantastic though. Really creative levels and the boss battles are awesome. Like a Mario Sunshine and Galaxy hybrid. Except your making the mess not cleaning it up lol.

The only thing that can get a wee bit repetitive is every world has an Octoling and Octostriker stage that take place on the MP maps. The are still fun, I just prefer the normal stages.

Just bought this late last night. Really enjoying it so far.

Single player is very arcadey, which I like, and as a non-multiplayer gamer I also really like the multiplayer as well. I know some want voice chat but I don't miss it.

I think it was explained in the direct? But it makes sense, considering you can't see the walls from bird view perspective.
Relying on a direct to explain fundamental gameplay elements is not good. It should be in the manual and in the game itself. I thought it counted for points because it counts toward your special meter.

I think we might need "walls don't count" in the thread title haha
For real!

Does it need to? It's pretty obvious. The map is viewed from the top down. You don't see any walls on the map.
Yes it absolutely does. Such vital mechanics should not be left to inference.

? it was $60 for me

this is where the moba feels come out
Here in Scandinavia it is the same price as those two titles. =/

Which really makes me consider getting it by the end of the month. But because of economy issues, I can't get it right now unfortunately.

I agree. I was not saying it is a good way of explaining it.

I have seen more than once someone who was disappointed on the game not having voice chat, changing their mind after actually playing the game. It is not necessary at all.

if you are playing awesome or dillybo, those are my sons jujubee is my daughter... awesome playing atm. they are loving the game

Damn those limited ink challenge, I actually failed the moment I was setting the zapfish doll free T-T
It's the invisible floor level one.

Remember, if anyone wants to add me, its: Rito2Ru

I can't play right now because my controller is charging so I'll get around to it later today.

So what's to keep someone from getting a costume from an Amiibo, formatting it, and then letting a mate use it to get the costume?

formatting it? why an unnecessarily extra step?

this is read-only. there is no write functionality. you could feed a whole town with one amiibo.

Sounds like a good idea, found out now.

Does nobody in the game ever explain this? I heard a lot of the side characters never stop talking lol

Okay awesome. I'm totally jonesing for that green squid armor and am looking for any way to get it without buying the 3-pack.

This is my goddamn mission!

For me, the charger is seemingly going through the same process I had with the Greatsword in Monster Hunter. I have no idea why, but every once in a while I feel weirdly driven to use it and try to become proficient at it, then after a round or two I remind myself that I'm absolutely terrible using it properly and can't aim/strategize with it for crap. So I retreat back to other, more comfortable weapons...but that damn nagging returns before long. I even bought the girl inkling amiibo so that I could practice using the charger challenges. :P

The Kelp charger is decently fun to use, but it'll take a lot of work to get the process down of quickly aiming and popping opponents. I wish the charge time on it was juuuuuuust a tiny bit shorter!

I only started getting decent with the Greatsword once MH4U came out, so maybe I'll be able to use chargers in Spla2n?

Walls don't count towards your special meter. Any surface that counts towards the special meter is counted as covered Turf.

This is my first actual online game that I LOVE, I've never REALLY liked them or been into them before. I've played COD and other such games, a lot of times with friends, but the appeal wasn't there for me like it is with this game. This game is different, it's more about the turf coverage than killing, and so there's that element of everyone not really wanting to camp. Yes, you may for a few seconds, but trust me, you WILL get an itch to just splat your color all over the fucking stage, and so camping becomes fucking boring as shit. Even as I'm dying, I see myself screaming, "Fuuuuuuuuck!!!" But then a smile takes over my face and I'm like "all right motherfuckers, I'm coming back."

Lol, lots of competitive and friendly fun.

man, I really love the weapon balance. each weapon has clear strengths and weaknesses and I always itch for something else when I use the same one for too long. has me switching regularly between 5 different weapons.

Even as I'm dying, I see myself screaming, "Fuuuuuuuuck!!!" But then a smile takes over my face and I'm like "all right motherfuckers, I'm coming back."

haha yes!
