Jet Squelcher is good too. Position yourself so the far end of your range is in a splat zone. Try to use the full range to keep opponents at bay. Also paint around the zones, limit the other team's mobility.

Whenever the enemy team recaptures the zones your team gets penalized.
Its something like a comeback mechanic. (made up numbers warning) Like if you are at 30secs you get +30 so the enemy have some breathing room to comeback

Not a one, and when I looked at my score they deducted 10 points as if I lost when my team was winning.

Yeah the servers definitely need fixing. Errors have been more frequent lately for sure.
I believe it gets initiated by your team capturing the area, and then the other team capturing it. I'm not sure what dictates the time you accumulate (it might be however long the zone was in neutral), but when you recapture it the new timer will be added. If you capture the zone and it becomes neutral, and then you manage to recapture it before the opposing team you'll avoid any extra time.

There is a chance because of the gold exploit bug that people found with the unlocked ranked mode.

same thing happened to me, but it seems to give me the XP anyway (but not the gold, apparently? So weird.)
Same here man, finally get a chance to play and the servers are down. T_TWork all day. Run errands. Sit down to play Splatoon. After 10 minutes - server maintenance. Oh cruel world!

Exploit that let's you basically upgrade or reroll gear for free
Only applies at level 20, but you can get no cost rerolls and free slots by exploiting Judd/Spike. They cost 30k normally.
