Splatoon |OT| Squidstyler

Can't wait for Inkbrush tonight. Sprinkler is my favorite subweapon, and although I prefer Kraken over Inkstrike, the latter is still useful in any game mode or map. Love it. Hopefully the zippy and closerange style suits me. Hopin' for the best.

Oh shit didn't even realize. Like has been discussed earlier I do like the content rollout of splatoon. Never played a game that does it like this (not saying there aren't any just I haven't played them) and I quite enjoy the excitement it brings.

I'm usually a vocal champion of motion/pointer controls but the bizarro, nonsensical restriction of vertical analogue aiming in combination with motion controls feels absolutely terrible to me. Almost every other motion controlled aiming game I've played does a combination of analogue + motion and it works beautifully. Why this only half works is baffling.

Although never a hater, I was never truly a fan of motion control. I don't know if I ever will be in general, but I am for this game. What people consider a restriction, I'm seeing as simply "trimming the fat." After getting used to the gyro controls, the reason for omitting virtical analog aiming became much more apparent.

Unlike horizontal movement - which can be greatly enhanced by analog sticks for sweeping movents - virtical gyro aiming is in much less need of assistance since the motion is easily and readily exploited by the natural postion of the hands. That is; it's much easier to flick the wrist/Gamepad up & down, as opposed to turning it left & right for horizontal aiming. It gets the job done quickly and accurately. Another reason it works well is because there's already a natural limit too how much you can look/down(180º). The same can't be said for gyro-only horizontal aiming, where you can pan endlessly 360º. So the sticks do help there. Adding virtical stick aiming to the current set-up would do very little to enhance the controls, but may only prove to add another layer of complexity trying to mentally sync these two different inputs on a virtical plane too.

...I'm kind of curious how many people actually use motion controls.

I tried it for a day, before giving up. I found my game improved substantially switching to the analog sticks. But it could just be that, I don't have the best sense of balance/vision. I just found it so hard to get a hold of the camera movement with the motion controls. Felt like I either had a heavy weight attached to my neck, or I was drunk and swung wildly around because my muscles were really loosey goosey.

I use motion controls. A first for me, but - for Splatoon - there's no way I'm going back, and I'm only going to improve! I felt much like you did, initially. I felt like there was a mental barrier in trying to coordinate/alternate between sticks and gyro. I believe it's the single player mode that really tuned me up, so try to up your skills there first. Afterall, we must keep in mind we're spent years perfecting analog stick controls, and there's nothing truly natural or intuitive about those. While I'm not a motion control beast like some others, I feel like I can still take on the best without fear of being too inexperienced. That says a lot about how well motion controls are implement here. Don't let unfamiliarity with the setup prevent you from seeing that they actually work very well.

Kelp Charger is the best weapon, tho

Except when someone suddenly appears close to you and your reaction times aren't fast enough to aim and charge the shoot enough to kill them

Alright lol, this is getting silly. My experience in ranked today:

Game 1: Get rekt (lose 100 to 0 with no interruptions)

Game 2: Decimate the other team (Win with 100 to 0 no interruptions)

Game 3: Decimate the other team (Win with 100 to 0 no interruptions)

Game 4: Get Rekt (lose 100 to 0 with no interruptions)

Game 5: Decimate the other team (Win with 100 to 0 no interruptions)

Is there not like, close/even games in Ranked? Lol Granted, staying in the same lobby can = the same people. But I've even left and joined new rooms, and this pattern seems to be my experience. I've won 5 games now though. And am almost a B -. So crazy!

Pretty excited to try out the Ink Brush, hopefully I can get a better grasp of it than I have with the roller. I want to try to play in some GAF games, too. Tired of playing with random folk that don't paint their own base in Turf Wars!

There's a ton of close games for me (actually too much for my taste) in the skatepark and I assume Port Marckerel as well.

Urchin Underpass is up right now and all those games are 1 sided.

Wait for Port Mackerel, most games go to timeout there.

I've had some (frustratingly) close games in ranked. Normally I come out on the losing end of them lol. That feel when the opponent forces overtime at the last second and makes a comeback win.

Why is no one complaining about the auto-downward aiming when you try to aim down a little? It's the worst fucking thing.

It's so hard to aim from higher ground because when you aim down, the reticle automatically goes straight down to your feet

This should be arriving on Monday. I'm excited. A few questions.

1. I've never really been into shooters, with one exception: I was massively hooked on CounterStrike: Source in 2004 or 2005. I dumped hundreds of hours into that sucker. I played Dust over and over and over and over again, just because I liked the mechanics so much. So I guess my question is: are this game's base mechanics fun enough that you're happy to play it over and over, even if it doesn't have massive in-world progression/leveling thing?

2. There's only one real-life person I imagine I'll want to play with. Are there any good 1v1 modes (or 2 vs. others modes)? Also, is there any easy way for me and my friend to play together, while also hooking up with a bunch of random other people to fill out our game?

3. How fun have you found it to just jump into the game and play with a bunch of random strangers (esp. without voice chat)? That's how a lot of my time with the game will be, so I'm wondering what you all think.

Must just be in a funk? Every game I've played today is just an extreme Win or Loss. I went from a C- to a B- already. It's insane. I guess I'm not going to complain. Finally getting a massive winning streak, even if it means decimating the other team each time.

EDIT: Okay, might just be a map thing. Although I just won twice at Skatepark just destroying the other team. Guess I'm just really lucky. Should ride this wave of good fortune to the top! :D

I actually just won three games in a row with the rapid blaster. With a score of 800+ to boot!

You think that's bad. My wedding is on the 20th. I'm gonna miss the first Splat Fest.

I need those sea snails, man...

Priorities, man

You can always book another wedding.

Source? What's the purpose of contacting a server during a match? Sounds like an extremely expensive approach, to have server traffic during all matches with free online.

You know what? I've heard both, and I can't find a confirmation anywhere. My boyfriend told me that there are dedicated servers -- I'll ask him when I can about if he found a source for that.

I don't have this issue. Do you mean that, because this is a third person shooter instead of FPS, the reticle isn't representative of where you're aiming? That's just how it works.

1.) Yup.

2.) Nope.

3.) Very fun.

Congrats. Ours is September 5th (labor day weekend). She originally wanted September 13th which is NFL opening weekend. I just laughed and had to put my foot down on that one.

OMG I'm home, all alone, my fiancée is out and will be back tomorrow afternoon, I have the whole entertainment center for myself...
I think I'm gonna get a few drinks, pack of smoke and play Splatoon all night!

I also wanna play with you guys, so I'll level up a bit (only played once, lvl4), finally try out the ranked mode to get accustomed with it and then join you folks! :)

Btw, my NNID is dash.kappei (GAF only, say so in your fr else I won't accept it)

1. yes! so much yes!

2. not really, there's the 1v1 battle dojo mode but you're popping balloons, not covering turf and it runs at 30fps which is no bueno for me personally

3. fun enough to be a fucking bum this past week and play nothing but splatoon

Haha, the "infinite kraken" speed runs on the squid amiibo are amazing. They completely break each level.

The stuff you can do is bonkers. I'd love to see the fastest times people can achieve.

Also, the rhythm game you get for beating it is a sound test with 27 tracks. I can play DDR to the Squid Sisters theme if stuck in a lobby (or in the plaza).

Nice part is you don't have to play, either. You can just listen. But two tracks are still locked. Hmm...

That's what the vanilla has over it. Worst case scenario, use a splat bomb and take them with you.

Yeah, I'm using the Kelp Charger with the scope. Just get better reactions dawg. Also, damage up if you want those sweet not fully charged OHKOs.

Finally got around to beating the single player, what with work and all it was actually pretty fast!
the last boss was so goofy and stupid that I had to love him.

Doing a Sunken Scroll run now. Does anyone know if you can just exit out the level after getting one? Or do you have to finish the level?

That final boss was tough, tough, TOUGH! Beat him without dying more than twice, however. It definitely was chaotic and the difficulty surpassed any of the stages before it!

Just gotta get all the scrolls I missed, and make it to A+ rank from my current B+ standing.
