Quick question: if I order the physical PC version (to Spain) will I have to pay the shipping separately? If so, when? When they are going to ship it, or right after the kickstarter ends? Thanks.

I think yes, shipping is separate. Not sure when they charge you.

They aren't charging for a delivery cost. When you pick a pledge, you choose your country from the bottom of the screen, and it gives you the final tally before you pledge. In this instance, no extra costs are added.

You'll be charged on Saturday once the Kickstarter is over, and then we all wait two and a half years for the game to be made.

Wow, this is great. I hope I won't cause them much trouble though. (I live in the Canary Islands)

whoah!

i wonder if chapter 2 is canon then.... can he really have survived both times ryo kicked him into the ocean?

I really wished I haven't read that but I think it would have came out anyway. Damn damn.... DAMNNNNNNNNNNNNNN! I'm kicking myself when I shouldn't have to. I hope the story surprises me so the person appears when I least expect it.

The number that means the most to me is the backer count.

It is just amazing that 53,300 people have pledged their own money towards the future of Shenmue.

Ah spoiler from the Nico Nico preso:
Chai is back in Shenmue 3.

Kind of wish I never read that.

:(
Makes sense and I expected it, tbh.

He has the best arc, actually. A rags to riches storyline about a man who pulls himself up from the gutter to join the organization of his dreams.

Still 2 years time to forget. ;)

I always told closest friends, if I ever get the opportunity to help fund it I'll donate lots. It's cool to see the opportunity and do it with the rest of the fans. How much Shenmue means to everyone, it was such a no brainer this is the project to donate big on when you just disagree with so much of the design philosophy and direction of video games out there. Especially on the AAA level.

Yup, the moment this kickstarter is complete, the next 'Shenume 3' related thing I'll be seeing is its title screen. Total media blackout starting in 5, 4, 3...

All you media blackout people are such liars. When the first real Shenmue III trailer hits you will all be back on ShenmueGAF screaming with excitement.

Impossible, my friend. Completely and utterly possible.

I really hope and pray Sony does some Lords of the Rings level of marketing. It will be so sooooo sick! Yes, promo Chai if you have to, it will be best!

That would be nice, but we'll prolly just see a Shenmue 3 banner ad on PSN.

lol! We love you, dude. You speak the truth.

BTW - this is worth watching. Two guys are walking through the chapter tiles from GDC '14. Speculations but they made good points: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C8lnnb9OGok

Does anyone have any contact with the editors from Yahoo? One of the editors love covering video games and wrestling which appears on their front page numerous times. If we want to reach out to the wider audience then now is the time to contact them so Shenmue Kickstarter final push can appear on their front page. Best to provide them with updated summary of all the positive news we've discovered from the Q&As and interviews such as one of the returning characters and so on. That would make the everything news-worthy.

The fact that I recently completed Shenmue 1 and immediately felt that I MUST give money to this kickstarter makes me think that this would have raised like double as much money if they had a HD remaster launched right after the kickstarter began. A surprise annoucenement or something. It would have been amazing.

would take too much coordination with sega. i'm sure they're as surprised by the outpouring of support as yu suzuki was though. if they were willing to let him use the IP for free/incredibly low cost, they must have thought it was worth literally nothing outside of merchandising to fans.

even sega got to eat crow over this kickstarter.

EDIT: found my post in that KS thread

Easily, at least 100 dollars. Minimum.

I also run a popular blog with a following of about 30,000 followers. I'm sure I could drum up another 500 in donations for Shenmue from my followers.
Have gotten a number of messages from people who said they donated to the Kickstarter after reading my blog post, so hopefully I've more than lived up to my word as well.

I only said £100 in that thread, yet I'm pretty much decided that I'm going to settle on the $300 tier before the Kickstarter is over. Surprised I gave a figure that low tbh. Guess I feel more generous now that reality has set in and Shenmue III is actually getting made.

Oh, and Shenmue crow is the best crow. Some of the naysayers in that thread lol.

nice!

good to see fans getting the word out. i've convinced a few friends to chip in but i don't have much reach beyond that.

You've done good work. I explain what it's about to my friends (they ask, because I'm so hyped) and they just go "huh, sounds kinda dumb to be honest" and move on with their lives. Their loss, I won't force it. :)

Clearly the Japanese stream had an effect, because if you search for "I just backed Shenmue" tweets on Twitter a lot of the recent ones are from Japanese user names.

I think your Herculean efforts in this thread have probably convinced more than that!

Yep, the Japanese stream had an effect. This past our, we had $5k amount of pledges, we normally get around $1k-$2k/hr, $3k is particularly fast.

We're getting so close to that $4.7m

ahhh, it's nothing really. just keeping the thread ticking over and trying to entice new/old fans to pitch in.

This is amazing. I just wonder what would happen if SEGA didn't fall out of the race and built a console that matches the PS3 with this type of production value.

Yeah it's truly amazing the amount of detail in an area that wasn't playable. You can find the original videos here -

Road to Amihama part 2

LanDC speculated that it seems at one point in development it seemed like Ryo might have had ability to ride motorcycle to harbour as the traffic was programmed to stop in front of you. And there was built off-ramps, traffic lights ect.

one day, there needs to a be a full and comprehensive breakdown of shenmue's development.

the game changed a whole lot on the dreamcast alone, let alone earlier saturn builds. hong kong and dobuita looked way different in earlier beta materials.

4.7 reached. May bob around that number for a bit if there is troll pledging, but it is effectively reached.

Only 845,991 more to beat bloodstained.

hopefully we create that 10k buffer between 4.7 dipping under soon. it's been a real good day though. that japan stream helped a lot. now we just need to get the KS campaign on the front of gaming websites. hopefully we'll hit 5 million by wednesday. that's be a good headline to push us for the next couple days.

There's a promo video that came out when it was fairly advanced in development with stuff like Ryo riding a bicycle and a cut-scene with him on a rooftop in Dobuita. There must be so much excised content in there.

i'm watching that right now actually. the shenmue premiere video from 97/98 contains even earlier stuff. the only version available is very poor quality but you can see so much stuff that changed. character and environments got a big graphical boost, the UI got better, and the world seemed to open up quite a bit. hong kong looked a lot narrower in that video.

That's insane, had no idea Shenmue was that big. Always thought the motorcycle scene with Nozomi was rendering all those building scenes in segments with careful camera views instead of one big city.

Would be fantastic if you can insert the sentence "Thank you for supporting me" in that gif.
