Ant-Man |Spoiler Thread| I Think Our First Move Should Be Calling The Avengers

One thing I didn't get was how the serum was affecting Cross when they seemingly hadn't started any successful human trials until he put it on during the helicopter sequence. Hope clearly tried to talk him down in the vault by blaming the serum messing with his mind.

That really bothered me as well. It certainly implies that he used the Yellowjacket suit/serum when it wasn't quite ready or without knowing how to control it and that caused him to start going nuts.

However, they didn't invest a single second into making that plausible, showing it happening, or even stating it happened off camera.

Either make the villain a complete psycho or put in the work to make him sympathetic. You can't have both.

I rather liked how they introduced Cross and developed him as someone ultimately motivated by needing validation from a mentor and father figure who pushed him away. Wiping up the jelly remains of that dude and flushing it nonchalantly was darkly hilarious.

Yeah definitely seemed like there was a scene missing. I mean he was clearly a psycho at the start and she was just trying to convince him otherwise but there was no basis shown for what she was saying.

It was clear that the serum worked and they figured out that the host needed to be encased in a suitable environment but after the success with the lamb you never see it tested on anything else.

I think Cross is supposed to have stolen a component from Pym that rendered his suit complete, right? Whatever that device taken from the Avengers building was. So I guess that was the supplement for the successful experiment.

It's pretty much the Arc Reactor from Iron Man 1.

I thought the thing he stole from the Avengers compound was to help bypass security? I need to see the film again some of the finer points flew by me.

No you're right. There was no magical device that got Cross closer to perfecting his own version of the Pym formula, just the good old fashioned scientific method.

it was pretty safe and formulaic movie for me. I guess its byproduct of seeing all MCU movies

your typical family problem in the beginning and patches up mid way.
comic relief side kicks and typical corporate bad guy.

I liked the sub atomic scene, goo death scenes, Falcon cameo (would have been more surprised if the commercial didn't spoiled it), and second end credits scene

Okay. So today Antman seems to be doing helluva good time in the box office. The battle with Minions will be a close one. Yesterday the numbers were not looking great. Not bad but not good and behind minions. I don't remember the number exactly but it was pretty depressing walking into theaters yesterday seeing the theater 30% full to 60% full for Antman and nearly soldout for Minions.

Today on the other hands...was REALLY good. So far today the total general admits have been (Antman/Minions):

781/402

Word of mouth needs to get around more! It's doing good and I think if tomorrow has a good surge, it'll pass Minions if is a fight though!

So what's the over-under on seeing Wasp in action in Civil War? Because as far as I know, Ant-Man 2 hasn't been scheduled, and I don't think I'm capable of waiting until the next Avengers to see Wasp on the big screen.

I suppose so. I wasn't sure.

Doesn't Cross pocket the device and talk about how he knew it would be brought there?

Hmm, now that entire part of the film seems hazy to me.

One major complaint I have with the movie is the fact that literally everyone knows who ant-man is. I always found the identity reveal of superheroes to their friends/family to be a pretty big thing and they make it seem like nothing.
The movie was awesome, the plot was simple, the action scenes were amazing especially when they zoomed out.

I get the feeling after Ultron, Marvel will wants all their movies make references to the prior events or feature some big characters cameo.

I wish that junior didn't randomly spoiled Falcon cameo in Ant-Man twitter reaction thread.

I mean they kind of explained it.

Hank Pym very clearly says he designed the helmet so it lessens that effect right? His helmet had two-fold uses. It enabled him to shrink and it helped slow the process of going crazy. Since Yellowjacket didn't know that and was just obsessed with getting it to shrink properly his helmet didn't protect from the Pym Particles and he went crazy insanely fast because of it.

I have an issue with Ant-Man being this well known entity back in the 60's and Pym being known as Ant-man but no one brings it up a any point prior to this film, it just doesn't gel properly. The films is still a lot of fun but certain things like that bothered me.

Whoever played Rudd's daughter in the movie was just about the cutest little thing I've ever layed eyes on and she was funny to boot.

The only thing he pockets is his own serum, the thing he says that he knew Hank would bring was the Ant Man suit. There's a lot going on around the heist so i know what you mean.

By well known you mean by like 5 people? Hank clearly wasn't about that life after Janet and Howard knew not to piss him off so It's not crazy that Fury would stay clear as well.

I enjoyed this. Michael Douglas especially, he really got something out of me. The funniest moment for me was when he explodes out of the ground after he panicked from the 'crazy' ants. But there were so many funny moments lol.

Fantastic movie. Way more enjoyable than Age of Ultron, I thought.

It's just a shame that Marvel can't use the canon death of Janet. They really need mutants.

I don't think we need to see the blob eating her alive on the big screen.

I thought Cross mentioned the Ant-man being a well known propaganda figure during the Cold War.

But how else will we see Pym eat the Blob's head you silly.

I thought Cross mentioned the Ant-man being a well known propaganda figure during the Cold War.

I thought that was what Hank told him every time he asked about it. That whole scene was his gotcha moment proving that Ant Man actually existed. He wasn't on the level of Cap where everyone knew for a fact he was real.

She might pull a Falcon cameo in Civil War, if not, I say Infinity.

I think it's doubtful we'll really see Janet in the MCU so that her in the Microverse thing will likely never be solved.

Just because he's known does mean people have to talk about him. Spider-Man is supposed to be swinging around for a while now and he didn't get a mention until now.

I enjoyed the movie. It didn't blow my socks off but it was fun and more entertaining than 90% of stuff out there. I'm a huge fan of stories about differences in scale (Gulliver's Travels, etc.) and I think they did a great job on that front.

While I was watching it really started to bother me how Cross was being such a generic "bad guy" but when they suddenly mentioned how the shrinking process was slowly altering people's minds and making them cruel, I was okay with it. It also explained Pym's short temper.

One thing I kept wondering was why hasn't Pym or anyone else use their formula to grow themselves or other objects. They seemed to really care more about shrinking which, while useful, is also kinda not in other respects.

Too many downside for being big, first it make him a way bigger target for everyone. Also, it's not like his strength increase as his grow in size. The whole gimmick of shrinking is that he retain his normal power in smaller form. But I think the comic and cartoon themselves have been very inconsistent with this, giving him super strength when he increase in size as well.

Dr Strange maybe?

Anyways, saw the film this morning and liked it a lot. Some of the humor was awkward but for the most it worked for me. The action was great because it didn't rely on spectacle as much as other MCU films, and as far as creatively applying Ant-Man's powers, they completely nailed it. I also liked all the characters, save for Cassie's guardians I suppose.

My main gripes would probably how 'quickly' Scott solves the issue of escaping the quantum reality (?), the casual injection of HYDRA, and some of the editing.

But even then, this was an unexpectedly memorable MCU entry and it integrated perfectly into the greater cinematic universe (see: the opening, any time Falcon is on screen). It also sets up a lot of great things for the future: Ant Man in Civil War, Hope as the Wasp, Hank interacting with Tony Stark, HYDRA making off with Pym particles, and Janet's possible return. The more I think about the film, the more I like it. Mid-to-high tier Marvel viewing for sure.

So if the Pym Particles work by decreasing the distance between atoms, how can you shrink to a sub-atomic level?

My guess it decreases the distance of all particles, including those inside atoms, like quarks and electrons. The atom, and the nucleus itself is mostly empty space. I could also rationalize it as once you get too small, your density is so great you're basically a black-hole / quantum singularity.
