Lara Croft GO |OT| Rise of the (touchscreen) Tomb Raider

Hitman GO is on sale on the windows phone store. Picked it up for £0.79.

I'll try it out and if I have fun I'll pick up Lara Croft GO as well :)

Wow Lara Croft GO is wonderful! Played more than a handful of levels but so far I love the the atmosphere of the game, with all those cave sounds, music and the low poly graphics. Its a very realistic cave. The transitions between levels make it seems more like an adventure than in most other games as its seamless. Controls are intuitive and helps the game flow even more, and with how the turn based gameplay is set up, the increasingly difficult puzzles are a joy to solve. I love games like this specifically built for touchscreens, they end up being the best games the platform has to offer.

There is IAP but is for unlimited hints and costumes, nothing that alters the game at all. In fact I am buying the costumes, I love the Hitman look :).

For us iOS 9 beta users, the game hangs and ends up crashing when the GameCenter logo first appears on the top. Log out of it and you are safe to re-log later. A little workaround that takes no time at all since the game shows the GC login screen all over the place if you are not connected to it.

Going back into it to play more... :D

Just curious, is anybody going to try this on their PC?

Right here. just got a new laptop, and my phone is horrendous. i plan to try the much-praised hitman go and this thing.

Gaf, if there's a problem with the windows store version of hitman go, stop me now.

This really is truly excellent. I liked Hitman GO, but this takes it to the next level. The dynamic environments, sound effects and animations really breathe life into the game making it feel less sterile than Hitman GO.

Don't get me wrong. Hitman was clever and a great take on the series. This just gives more of the feel of a Tomb Raider game as opposed to more straightforward board game style of Hitman GO.

Anxious to get further in...

I agree completely, this is a serious step up from Hitman GO on all levels. I hope they carry over the animations and some of the refinements over for the sequel to Hitman.

Impressions after playing for a little over an hour are that it's great. If you liked Hitman: GO, you will like this. Personally enjoying this a lot more since it feels like it has more character and energy.

Fantastic so far. I love Tomb Raider, and Hitman GO is one of the few mobile games I enjoy, so this was a no brainer. I am loving the art, and the low poly Lara is great. Looking forward to being able to put more time in a little later.

This is great. Low poly art in this is perfect, and I love how it's turn-based. The only mobile games I like are ones where precise realtime controls aren't required, this fits the bill.

Very elegant, and I love how it lost the board game trappings of Hitman Go. Less abstract is good for me. After 30 minutes I can say this is my second favorite mobile game of 2015 next to Contradiction.

Contradiction is on iPad? How did I miss that?

Just finished Maze of Snakes.

Yeah, they pulled it off. Again.

I love how much the game rewards your familiarity with Hitman GO while still doing its own thing. I was the player that played each level of HGO three times to get all the objectives. It's weird to not be doing that again at first, but it feels really good to just keep moving here while you look for relics in the environments instead. The pacing is fantastic and it feels like it's introducing new stuff faster than HGO, too. Really glad they went this direction. The last room of Maze of Snakes was my first head scratcher and I felt smart once I got it.

And it's sooooo stylish. The music is great, just totally chill, and it's gorgeous. I love the simplicity of the graphics and i'm surprised and thrilled with the detail in the animations. It's small stuff, but Lara just looks so cool when she kicks over a switch or front flips over a ledge.

Definite GOTY contender for me. Possibly front runner.

I half-joked over in the IOS thread about what the reaction would be if GO edged out Rise of the Tomb Raider in GAF GOTY voting.

Haha. It'd never get the votes it'd need with the mindset most people have about mobile games, but you can damn sure make a case.

I loved Tomb Raider 2013, too. It's wild that the console and mobile games will in all likelihood be on even footing from a quality standpoint.

Pretty good so far. Looks like they've completely removed Hitman Go's optional objectives for each mission, instead they've replaced it with the relic system? Making the stages all feel connected is pretty neat too.

How often does this game save your progress? Every time I quit the game I lose all progress and only The Entrance - Forgotten Path level is open for me. I don't think it is meant to be this way.

Just picked up Hitman GO on Android, as it's on sale there too. If I like it, I'll be interested in picking up Lara Croft GO later.

Man this game is quite excellent. I never played Hitman Go, but the turn based puzzle setup this game has is really nice and provides some nice challenges while not being really frustrated (least not yet :P). The presentation is just absolutely wonderful, and helps make some top notch atmosphere, giving a great sense of isolation. It might not be a full ledge tomb raider game, but overall they really nailed the spirit of classic Tomb Raider, and it going to end up being one of my favorite Tomb Raider games for sure.

XD I wouldn't be surprise if at the very least it is the winner to many TR fans, unless ROTR really steps up its game in places.

In terms of difficulty I think Hitman Go had more of a sweet spot with the way they handled optional challenges. I'm making my way through chapter 3 while some parts required a bit more thinking, I haven't really been stumped yet. In comparison, when I played Hitman Go, sometimes I would have to skip a stage or skip the optional objectives and go back later to have another stab at it. Hope it gets harder towards the end. I really miss the optional challenges which force you to play stages in different ways.

Same. That was my main gripe, that it doesn't have the replay value and extra challenges that Hitman did.

I'm in the Maze of Spirits, I think, and this is a super-compelling game. I'm enjoying it quite a bit more than Hitman Go, though so fat it's not quite as difficult. It's fascinating how the old classic Tomb Raider feel translates so well to turn-Based gameplay ... If you had told me I'd enjoy a game with turn-based boulder chases I wouldn't have believed you.

Feels quite short, though perhaps it's just because I like the ambience and feel of the game so much that I just keep playing it. With Hitman Go it was beautiful but very steril, as others put it above - I always played 4-5 levels and then kind of put it down.

Another thing I like: the way they structured the game is perfect for adding new content. New adventures with new Mazes, revolving around different artifacts. They did a great job supporting Hitman GO post-release, so I imagine Lara Croft will get similar support

Would be cool to see least a maze that is Egyptian theme!^.^

This game is getting a very warm reception. I'd like to take this opportunity to encourage people who wish to see more of these games retweet my plead to Square-Enix Montreal in regards to a possible Legacy of Kain GO game. The teams ability to realize existing game worlds and adapt them to the mobile platform has been proven twice already with HITMAN GO and LARA CROFT GO.

Legacy of Kain would benefit from similar treatment, given the incredibly rich nature of the franchise lore. I feel this series has been neglected and mistreated in the past and the opportunity to see a new entry in this classic franchise by trusted and acclaimed developers would be a match made in heaven.

I don't usually do this kind of thing, if that's any indication for how much I'd like this.

As for LARA CROFT GO, happy raidin'
Thank you!

Hopefully the great reviews translate into great sales too. That way we'll be assured of more free updates in the coming months, and maybe they'll commit to another Go game in a major S-E franchise. Deus Ex Go?
Final Fantasy Go?!
