Splatoon has downtime tomorrow for an hour and 10 minutes. Smash has downtime today, one hour for 3DS then one hour for Wii U.
Does anyone know if Splatoon has had any downtime before? I mean even with all these updates I never heard about any downtime. Splatoon's downtime this time at least seems to be so they can update to version 2.1.0. Not "routine maintenance".

My feeling is telling me that we wouldn't hear anything until after Oct 3rd so it could be October or November.
They're very short. Usually don't last the full hour or however long it says they are. They do kick you out of whatever game you're playing at the time though. I've lost rank points because of server maintenance.
Or...it could be playable octolings.
Nintendo already confirmed that Splatoon is getting a patch. Just bug fixes, but totally unrelated to Smash maintenance.

I always want to see Wolf and Snake coming back, and I have been supporting Isaac for long time. I know that his chance isn't great but still! Inkling is just a bonus because their game is amazing fun!

Whereas Shovel Knight is a character that would fit perfectly into Smash but would be weird because of his unimportance to Nintendo's legacy, I feel like Bayonetta is a terrible fit for Smash, even if she's technically second party or whatever now.

I still find it funny how people keep saying Bayonetta would not fit, yet the world did not complain when Snake made it to Brawl (....right?), they tweaked him slightly (explosives, no guns) so he could fit. I am pretty damn sure the same could happen with Bayonetta.

I'm not asking for Snake back either lol. He's also the star of Metal Gear, as opposed to a series with two games. And the whole point of his character isn't being foul mouthed and sexy. Aaaand he doesn't kill Angels. I mean of course it could work, but that's why I've never asked for Bayonetta. I've never thought "wow this would be perfect in Smash" when playing a Bayonetta game like I did when I played Shovel Knight or Chibi Robo or whatever.

Her design itself would need to be drastically changed. Her move set would be hard as well, because she can't use her hair magic or her guns.
For Snake all that changed was he can't use guns or smoke. Other than that, he still looks the same and his move set is rooted in Metal Gear.

Source Gaming's article on Bayonetta explain all the reasons why she wouldn't fit. They would have to change what the character is about to make her work in Smash. I have nothing against the character (even though I find her games tasteless and offensive), but she isn't comparable with Snake at all. Plus, Snake got into Smash because of nepotism, not because "he fits".
