I said it after playing Ground Zeroes and I'll say it again. Kiefer Sutherland, though he's doing a good job, is just not nearly the same as David Hayter.

Also I must've missed when Ocelot became your friend. The last I remember in MGS3 was good ol' revolver ocelot being on the other side of the playing field.
Yeah, I like Kiefer, but damn do I miss Hayter.

i have spent way too any cycles trying to find the commander in this mission for the extras before rescuing Miller, where is he at that base I infiltrate at night and can't locate him at all? Please someone explain how I lure this turd out.

Those of you who either finished or are far along, do we find out why Big Boss has a real hand and no horn in MGS4? No spoilers if possible.

All-speculation here as I'm only 7 hours in, but the horn is a piece of Shrapnel that Boss's body is very slowly ejecting, so it probably falls out during the next 30 years.

And in the MGS4 epilogue Big boss is wearing long sleeves and gloves through the whole scene. His prosthetic would've been hidden.

Man, you seem to be everywhere when MGS4 gets brought up. I get that you love it, but you seem to get a bit too into defending the game. I agree, a lot of people get a bit hyperbolic about MGS4, going so far as to call it a garbage game (which it clearly isn't). However, I don't think anyone can deny that it does have some glaring problems, with certain elements of the game absolutely being terrible. If you like that, great, but trying to shut up detractors with completely valid complaints by resorting to "but look at the reviews!" isn't fair. A sizable portion of the fan base considers the game bad (in relation to the rest of the series at least), and whether or not that group is a minority (which I don't really think it is), the position seems pretty valid.

Yeah, but why are you singling me out? Why don't you talk about the people who constantly hate it and every time the game is mentioned they also suddenly appear to state how much it sucks?

It goes both ways. ;)

If you remember Raiden got prosthetic parts that looked like real body parts by the end of the game. also Big Boss was wearing gloves in MGS4. Also they used solidus' body to rebuild Big Boss to some extent.

Anyone else been having server problems since launch on PS4 btw? Sometimes I feel like I'm one of the few people who keep having error 10012.

Maybe this is a dumb question, but how do I know what all the mission goals are for a mission? I see them listed for missions that I've completed, but not new ones. Are they there to encourage replay of missions, or is there a way to find out what all the goals are before starting a mission?

They're hidden the first time you do a mission. Guess for replay value, as you've said.

You aren't meant to see them for new missions. That would limit your options for completing them. They are objectives mainly for replaying missions.

Question, I did a prisoner extraction side ops, found the target, tranquilized him and fultoned him out. When i got back to the chopper, I check my side missions log and that same mission is showing up as a white box witch a check mark on it with full white text unlike other side missions that show up faded. In fact it shows up like the target practice side mission that I also did. What does this mean?

spoilers for midish game i think (i have all buddies and am attacking a convoy in a main mission)

So i'm attacking a convoy of two tanks and a truck, the skull unit jumps out the truck and... I keep dying. Am I missing something? I've used grenade launchers, RPGS, machineguns, sneaking, they keep being alerted and killing me

I have only played the prologue and some of the first Mission, and just based on that alone, I am pretty safe in saying I do not think a 6th grader should be playing this game. There is ultra violence for sure. 10-12 years old just seems too young to play this game.
I am sure others will disagree, and I am sure there will be plenty of kids that age who play the game, but I would say it does push the envelope just on the violence side of things.

The most violent things I saw him play were COD, Dying Light, and Saint Row, I think. Though I have no doubt he played some worse stuff at a friends house.

It's pretty fucking violent, and not in an over the top Gears-y way, but in a fairly convincing way. I don't know if there's much sex beyond Quiet's ridiculous clothing and helicopter behavior. But the open scene alone has multiple mass shootings and brutal point blank killings.

It's kinda funny and sad but if it's more on the violent than sexual side I think I can let it slide.

Hes wearing a red beret if you can spot him. If not come back when you get
Russian translater
and interrogate the soldiers there until they give his location up.

They are there to encourage replay but also to encourage exploration as you can get details by interrogating guards.

starting game for the first time, why am i getting a "failed to log in to server, you will not be able to use online features" error? anyone else had this problem? i'm logged into PSN, internet is running fine on my end, etc..

Overall I'm having a lot of fun so far. Most people agree that the stealth gameplay is fantastic, so I'll just post some of my negative opinions:

-I'm starting to get worried about the story. I'm only on Episode 11, but so far the game has been incredibly light on main story elements. Unlike previous Metal Gear games, cutscenes are few and far between. On top of that, Snake himself barely talks in any of them. There are quite a few audio tapes to collect, but most of them just fill in backstory or provide "flavour lore." I've even read a few spoiler-free impressions that say the game doesn't really answer any questions and is overall unimportant to the main series. I basically only play MGS for the story so I'm kind of crying right now...

-I still prefer the codec over the audio tapes. Listening to the audio tapes in-game while completing a mission is annoying because character audio overrides the tape audio. "The Soviets moved their armed forces into the reg-BOSS, THAT'S THE BASE UP AHEAD". The other option is to just sit in the main menu and marathon all the tapes. You could argue that the codec was basically a tape marathon, but at least it was integrated into the gameplay itself. The codec would give you certain info at certain times instead of leaving it all up to you.

-Although Kiefer is probably the best actor in the game, he sometimes sounds as though he doesn't know the context of his own dialogue. Some of the tapes make it obvious that the character audio was spliced together instead of being a live conversation.

-I'm really disliking the "new" Ocelot. His voice is way too southern and doesn't sound at all like his usual self. They should have either kept his MGS3 voice or went with an older, raspy voice like the Solid Snake games. Right now my mind a hard time accepting that this Ocelot is in fact the Ocelot from all the previous games.

i have a question regarding the Mother base staff 1 DLC from ground zero!

i'm in europe, so i finally redeemed the code, and it works! But when i got to the article, i can't download it, there's the little download icon, but no matter how many time i click on it, nothing happen!

it didn't download because i've got nothing in my download history

I just found out how to remove all markers.

Go to your library and check your MGSV addons. Most likely, it is already installed. I had the same thing.

Totally forgot about that. Watching the ending again right now and he just said that.

right now im having a hard time realizing that this is in fact a metal gear game.

but that said, im loving it for what it is.

First go on a mission you have to find out the additional items by interrogating soldiers.... Once you've done a mission though, they seem to be automatically listed for subsequent playthroughs

The weirdest thing about this is that... well, from time to time, Troy Baker does a great impression of Patric's Ocelot.

And then ten minutes later he turns into Joel. It's screwing with my brain.

Because of my name I think I can express my point. I am a fan, and have signed framed MGS3 posters hanging in my house.

I loved MGS4. I loved them all. This is probably my least favorite. I wish there was more exposition, and taking the codec's out for tapes is not doing it for me. Traversing the terrain is horrid. It boggles my mind.

I quit around mission 20. watched the true ending on Youtube, and called it a day.

Excellent gameplay best in the series by a long mile, its just not what I wanted. It doesn't end how I wanted, and the ending makes me feel the least amount of reward for pouring what would be 80 hours into a game.

MGS1>MGS3>MGS4>MGS2>MGS5.

Now Im not going to be a debbie downer, and come in here to ruin everyone's good time.

The first 45 min of 5 is some of the best I have ever played, unfortunately, its all down hill after that. I don't know if this game had a chance to be fully realized, but I really feel like something is missing, and its the most complete incomplete game.

If this was Kojima's true vision, I don't like it. Not enough meat there.

Yeah, but why are you singling me out? Why don't you talk about the people who constantly hate it and every time the game is mentioned they also suddenly appear to state how much it sucks?

Probably because you seem to be the most vocal/active defender of MGS4 on this board. Also, the defense usually amounts to "you're a minority!" or "but look at the reviews/votes!", while most detractors tend to at least talk about why they think the game sucked.

I agree with pretty much all of your points. What bugs me the most is that, while Sutherland is fine, nothing he's done so far seems like it couldn't have been done by Hayter too, which just confirms what I initially thought which was that Kojima just wanted to dip his toes into Hollywood by hiring Kiefer. I miss Snake's real voice. Both him and Ocelot just feel like entirely new characters, and it will never stop being jarring.

Not sure if anyone else posted already, but I can confirm that european DLC codes from the Ground Zeroes box are now redeemable. You get a bit of extra staff. :)

Does it take a realllllly long time for some of the iDroid stuff to come up for anyone else sometimes? Mostly when bringing up some of the MB stuff, the load times are really bad sometimes.

Question for someone who is late in the game regarding a yellow side-op, don't highlight unless you're past mission 31
I'm doing the secure the remains of The Man on Fire side-op, I've secured the base where he supposedly is, and searched it from what feels like top to bottom numerous times but no sign of him. Guards didn't know shit.

Hello. I assume someone's tried this by now and it's probably been covered but looooong thread and avoiding spoilers!

Will the PAL version of Phantom Pain recognise a US save of Ground Zeroes? Wondering if it's worth making an effort with GZ first or just jumping in.

Yea... Ocelit is not very strong. I have to say tho, that RAD as Kaz is taking the role to the next level. His delivery is so great. I love it. He is also one of the most consistent VA in the game since he started.

I love Keifer, and i do agree sometimes i don't think he undertands what he is saying. But.. he is Jack, so he is good.

I don't prefer the codec... i like listening to stuff in real time. Also, you can always just get the app on your phone and listen to the tapes when you are not playing. In GZ i did this. It was great. You can focus and listen say on your commute to work or something.

LOVE LOVE LOVE the music tho.. from the ambiance to the songs you can play during a mission. This game just feels very personalized to how ever you want to play, and that is awesome.

The story... i am enjoying my own little stories of gameplay. I feel like i am Big Boss. Not a third party watching over his shoulder and looking at how cool he is during a cinematic. This time its me doing all the cool stuff. I can't put words on how awesome that feels.

Anyone here ever get a red DS4 on ebay? I see them for like 55 dollars there and it would be better than getting one at gamestop for 70.

How do I stop fights breaking out?

Tried putting diplomats on the team and two troublemakers together

Do the diplomats need to outnumber them?

Also, how do I get my soldiers to get materials for me? They say "Need materials? Just ask!" on MB

And finally...

When should I return to med bay for the miss-able cutscene?
