Episode 11 spoilers: I just beat
quiet with the riot smg. How are you supposed to do that fight? Come back later with a tranq sniper rifle? The smg was roooouuuughhh.

I had a sniper rifle on me when I ran into her mission, making it pretty easy. Just see where she is, bait a shot, then shoot her. Repeat.

Good thing I had the sniper rifle on me, if I didn't, I can imagine that would have been pretty hard.

Oh man, Mission 16 suuuucccks.
So my C4 trap for the IFV works flawlessly, and then I take out the tank with an RPG, jump in a jeep to catch that truck only to have the skulls pop out and utterly destroy me. I try this about 4 times until I get Quiet to take out the driver and then the skulls were somehow not alerted to my presence. On that particular run I was lucky enough to call in the battle suit and a LMG, but I keep ordering Quiet to take headshots on the skulls chipping away at them. The last one alive manages to spot me, but I was able to Rambo him with the M60 and finish the mission!

That mission seems horribly balanced for the load out and researched weapons you have up until that point, as its the first real Metal Gear-ass batte I've come across.

Well,
The stock sniper rifle I research was more than enough. It's just a matter of getting close enough to headshot her--it'll take about four hits to do it. I have no idea how you'd ever get closer, because she just ran...

oh, can you take her out with a lethal weapon and still get her as a partner? I figured it had to be nonlethal and the smg was all I had on me.

I only ever got close to her once or twice, I just sniped her with the smg. Because I'm big boss.

I have played so far only 8-9 main missions (among several side ops) and I am slightly starting to worry about the fact that story per se is kinda non existent since the prologue and 1st mission...

There is only some bits of information thrown, but so far the main ops are kinda like side ops with some briefing. I am hungry for some cutscenes and story.

Without spoiling anything please tell me if story pacing is going to improve the further you go. Just answer with a simple yes or no dont go into any details of when or how.

Also, another question, can I interact in any way with mother base soldiers apart from beating the shit out of them, or interact with buddies and Ocelot/Miller? Again without spoilers please :)

Thanks a lot

It'll improve as long as you focus on main missions rather than side ops for most of the time then you'll hit a bit of a dead end with replaying missions on a harder difficulty but at that point the story is already WHERE THE FUCK IT'S GOING TO GO NEXT? So, it'll hook you in but you'll have to do some annoying shit to get to the answer.

About interaction, I haven't really explored motherbase that much to fully answer your question, hopefully others that did will.

god damn DD

hiding in box about to get caught, guards come at me

gettin near the box but not enough for CQC. thinking "welp there's no way to not get spotted now"

suddenly

they see DD beside the box, tell him to "get out the way"

DD goes through them, distracting them and making them look the other way

come out of box. snip snip, two headshots

doggyyyyyyyy

Okay so I finally got Side Op #
6: stun arm blueprint
. Earlier in the thread someone said Quiet could be obtained from this mission. Can someone explain in a non spoilery way how to not miss her?

oh ffs

I was avoiding that mission cause I randomly already have that, dunno why

that's where you can get Quiet?

god dammit ignored it for so looong

Fultoned a handful of mortars / machine guns, how do I go about laying them out at motherbase? Can I pick positions / see a list?

Or do I just have to take the word they are about on one of the platforms and find 'em?

Play all the tapes as soon as they unlock, don't keep them in the backlog. There's a surprising amount of surprises and revelations in the tapes, which is a bummer since those things used to be in cutscenes and codec/radio calls.

I usually play them while I'm taking a food brake.

2 crazy highlights from tonight:

Extracting a prisoner during a sandstorm without having to thin out the enemy numbers at all, and them not even knowing the prisoner was gone at all.

Running across a generator and comms box early in a mission, dropping C4 on them, and later detonating them after I completed my main objective so it would empty out a nearby barracks was even better. While everyone else was investigating the source of the explosion, I was cleaning out the barracks of blue prints and diamonds. Then I disappeared before the schmucks came back so they could sleep again.

The highs I get as a pure stealth player are so good in this game. Jeez.

Holy shit this is frustrating.. Episode 25-26ish spoilers..

So Motherbase just got hit with the epidemic, spent 10mins looking at eachothers faces and was tempted to quarantine based on acne..then went and spent 15mins using night vision to see if there's any heat signatures on people's chests.. no go.

Then noticed all the symptomatic have 3 matching languages, English, Russian and an African one..so figured it was that (They said English was never one of the languages used on test subjects)

I spend 20mins going through my 500 soldiers, quarantining like 150 of them, can't get to 3 with that language because for some stupid fucking reason the Brig is more imprtant than quarantine..

Ocelot said to go ahead and do missions as usual, so I do 1, come out and see the quarantine tutorial again..ALL my 150+ fucking quarantined soldiers are now back in their teams and soldiers start dropping like flies again.

I always play tapes. As soon as they unlock I play them. Still I feel that there is not much plot going on at the moment in the game. I can understand that the point is now to improve MB and ranks, but hell I am 9 main missions in and like 15 side ops as well, 3 days of playing and there is not much else going on.

Fear2die, probably should spoiler tag that. And yeah I have, I also think there's multiple ones because the tape I found in a tent in a main mission said different things to that one most have found.

Here's what my spoiler tape said
I was dying of boredom anyway, But guess what? I will be coming back, and I'm bringing my new toys with me. I then shot the stereo and I'm sure I heard it shout "nooo!"
You can find it in the main mission
Voices
I believe.

I played the first five missions or so last night, don't know how I feel about this game as a Metal Gear title. What bothers me more than anything is how little Snake speaks, you'd think that an icon such as Big Boss would have more to say instead of just standing there like a mute taking orders. He's got no character.

One of the things I like about the previous games was how much personality they put in to conversations between Snake and other characters. In MGSV you run up to a goat and Miller starts talking about how you can use the Fulton and extract it to Mother Base, end. If it had been done in the style of MGS3 for example, Snake would have some banter with Miller about the taste of the animal or about how having a goat running around Mother Base would be a nightmare.

I'm just getting started with the game so this might improve. I also understand that you have to loose some to get some with regards to gameplay / storytelling, and there seem to be a whole lot of the former in V.

Episode 31 spoilers ahead.

I'm watching the credits roll, and I'm shocked this was seemingly the final chapter! I only have 35% of the game complete, so it totally surprised me that this was it. I know there will be a ton of other things to do, but the main story was deceptively short!

I just continued on with my main missions even though they were dropping like flies. You'll thank me later when you do so instead of wasting time finding who's infected.

Oh I'm not going to do it again,
I'm going to assume the important characters and hopefully special soldiers (Kojima/Eye/Finger/etc) will be safe.

I know I chose correctly as I got a little audio from Ocelot saying
Casualties have dropped and it's amazing how "that" is the sympton.

So going by the menus you can also play as recruits? Curious at what point that ability unlocks.

Yes, not for every main mission though as far as I know, don't know if the same can be said for side ops because there are a few that are important to the plot itself.

Yeah, I didn't get that because I'm like I will do missions as fast as I can and you'll know why you don't have to worry when you get there. I don't know if important recruits can die though if so.

Yup! can't straight away but I did actually use a grunt in a main mission just last night for a trophy. I chose him because of his longer reflex time, you may also put a balaclava on them so you don't see their face.

How do I see the stats of soldiers before I fulton them?

You'll have to upgrade your binoculars first with R&D, then it'll tell you their rank.

How do I hang out with a friend on my or his MB? Or is it just an FOB thing? Couldn't try that one yesterday because servers were down.

Any downside to combat gear? I researched this bulky combat armor, and it really provides a lot of extra protection to gunfire, which is NICE for when things go loud, I was just curious if there's any downside. There doesn't seem to be on the surface. Maybe I make more noise?

I'm trying to do a side op that requires rescuing 2 prisoners, but i have no idea how the hell I'm supposed to find the second. Interrogating guards only got me info on the first prisoner, but nothing on the second, so I've just wasted a good hour making zero progress. It's the Unlucky Dog 02 side op. What am I missing here?

Also, you can make life so much simpler by marking her with the binoculars. Let's you know exactly where she is (until she stealths) and allows for dropping a care package right on her head.

I had no problems with normal tranq gun.

Just spot her and move fast behind her to get a flanking position. She takes a quite few darts but it's doable alright.
