Now I wonder. When Miller was working as a drill instructor in FOXHOUND, was it during the time of Big Boss' leadership, or did he joined during Campbell's?

I always assumed it was under Big Boss' leadership, but I'm not sure any more. He trained Solid Snake, didn't he?

And what does introducing a body double accomplish? An excuse for BB's apparent survival after MG1? They could easily have explained that away with "he managed to survive" or "he caught the last bullet between his teeth".

i think kojima just wanted a big twist at the end, even if it made no sense. I'll just ignore Venom Snake ever existed, which is easy because he has 1 scene in the rest of the series and it's in 8-bit sprites so who cares about that loser.

He says, "I'll keep playing my role", "I'll send the real Big Boss to hell".

He's propping up Venom to possibly face Big Boss and goes on about "coexisting" with Ocelot.

How d'you know he's not referring to continuing to play his role after the events of TPP?

Also, regarding the hospital scene, is the original version meant to be an unreliable recollection of what's happening from the mind of a guy who's just come out of a coma, while the second version is what actually happened? Because if so, what if Venom realised right away that he wasn't actually Big Boss?

Yeah that's kind of the biggest bummer. That the entire plot of this game answers the dumbest question: "how come I had to kill Big Boss twice in the older games?"

Which was a dumb question in the first place. During the credits of the first game, you get a call from the real Big Boss saying that he survived, and that he would face Snake again.

Not even back then anyone assumed Big Boss was dead. He could've escaped through a secret emergency exit or something. I mean, it was his base, and he was a legendary soldier...

I always assumed it was under Big Boss' leadership, but I'm not sure any more.

Yeah, me neither.

If he was working under Big Boss then I guess he was just pretending to be on good terms with the real one, in order to be able to stab him in the back at some point. Maybe it was the only way he could get close to David, so he had to swallow his pride and put up a nice face to his old Boss...

I'm gonna stick with the interpretation that real big boss was never really evil. Outer heaven operation was ordered by BB to trick Venom into thinking he could get rid of Boss' inferior clone, when really BB knew that Solid would kill Venom, thus making everyone believe big boss is dead, tricking the patriots into thinking that too.

But then in Zanzibar, Kaz wants revenge on real boss so works with Solid and Campbell to take him out. Boss doesn't expect this and "dies". Then after that the rest is history.

Whats INGSOC.org and what does this have to do with anything?

Too long to explain, google ingsoc mgs.

It was created originally on march 3rd, a few days before Kojima/Kojipro supposedly were "fired/shut" by Kojima, it's linked to a twitter account called #kojimalives, it has been posting all sorts of "ARG"-like stuff related to Metal Gear and PT, had its title say "A ##### ###### Game", etc.

edit: And INGSOC is from Orwell's 1984, which there is a LOT of in MGSV, especially regarding Miller.

INGSOC.org has been updated.

The page says "Black Hound - Don't let Armageddon stop you". And now the source page no longer asks you to send an email with your name, it says:

I don't know. A man who starts wars, fuels their flames, produces orphans from those wars and then sends those orphans to fight in a new war to keep the cycle going seems pretty evil to me. And that was all from the real Big Boss, not Venom.

Saddest thing is that we'll likely never see this in playable form. Would've been pretty awesome.

I can't stop seeing Big Boss' "Aawww c'mon David, stop that" face on that picture.

There is actually a major clue to this in the mission screen.

The hospital sequence is titled "FLASHBACK", as in this is what Venom remembers.

TRUTH is the version that actually happens and isn't a memory.

im still pissed the Truth mission just kind of shows up, if you knew that Mission 51 was going to get cut why not make a proper segue into the real ending

Has anyone made a Xenogears disc 2 comparison yet?

I really do think more plot was planned, but I'm curious as to how much of the cut work was Kojima, and how much was Konami pulling the plug and and the dev team salvaging what was left.

It feels a lot like Xenogears to me. Amazing first-half, then a second-half that takes a weird narrative turn. It wouldn't surprise me if, like Xenogears, it was due to budget and meddling suits.

Seems so.

Seems so.

That'd be a good comparison, actually.

Yeah, it's obvious from the mined monologue, the cut scene, that Kojima wanted more for the game.

Just got to the tape of Huey talking about Dr. Clark, love the tip-toeing around it. Especially Snake saying 'It'd make a good movie'.

But that's the thing. Phantom Pain gives no indication as to why Big Boss would ever do those things. By the end of the game, we really don't know anymore about Big Boss than we do at the end of Ground Zeroes. Like, why did Big Boss ever even agree to having a fake Boss out there doing his work. What's his master plan and what would eventually make him do the things you mentioned above?

I saw a couple of mentions of that in one of the OT threads.

Seems appropriate. But you know, in Xenogears at least the plot keeps going. Yes, mostly on text, but in MGSV it basically ends.

And that's one of the reasons people are so disappointed in the plot of this game.

Kojima is washed and Konami getting him up out the paint was for the better. There's no telling what he would have retconned and explained when nobody asked him to in MGS6.

I'll say this for the game's story:

I'm not sad Kojima isn't working on Metal Gear anymore.

You have no proof of that, yet!:)

edit: To be honest, if the Black Hound site is anything, it's probably related to MPO or FOB. Maybe a new game announced too, cause MGS TPW and Rising were announced together after a long counter.

I keep re-thinking how I feel about the story overall. There were great elements, I enjoyed the tapes, especially the truth tapes with Zero, although in those tapes Zero kinda downplays the whole parasite stuff making it feel a bit unimportant. Idk I wish there was more about the big boss's story. And how I wish we got to see solid snake.

Why even have Chapter 2 at all if it amounted to nothing, should've combined both of them and cut the stupid twist.

Kojima has wanted to get out of Metal Gear for a very long time now after all. Just a shame that Snatcher is still owned by Konami since I would love to see him do more of that.

If Ishmael is Big Boss then how does he have two eyes? Also he dies multiple times during the hospital scene.

Fake, glass eye?

And I never saw Ishmael dying a single time during the hospital prologue.

I REALLY wanted a Zone of the Enders 3.

People keep saying in December but I'm not sure how accurate that is.
That's what all the rumours stated when the whole fiasco broke. Said he was under contract until the end of the year.

Tbh, I wouldn't be shocked at all if the cut content returns as DLC...paid DLC so Konami can recoup even more money

As a HUGE Metal Gear fan, I just want the series to die already. With, or without Kojima. No more, please.

I would take another Rising. I'm sure Platinum could talk to Kojima on the sly.

Otherwise let it die. MGSV wasn't really a necessary game.

When he's in the front of the group and everyone gets lit up

That was somebody else. If you check the shot you see very quickly that there's two people with bandaged faces.

This game did not get evil. "Acid does more to the container" quote, where did that ever apply? Do we apply it to Kaz and not BB? I was on the edge of my seat when he fired into the cell of the child soldiers, jaw down. Oh wait, it's nothing.

I'm looking forward to December where kojima can open up and spill the beans.
