i don't get the 'barren world' complaint people have.

open world games in general are rife with stretches of, well, fuck all. at least mgsv has the courtesy to drop those guard posts on the roads so it at least encourages the player to do something other than run/drive to wherever.

I'll quote my list again.

- "80's Filter": Removed for being system-intensive.
- Camp Omega Special Mission (E3 2013 Trailer): Unused for unknown reasons.
- P.T Active Decoy ("Lisa") (2014 TGS gameplay presentation): Presumably cut for relationship to the cancelled "Silent Hills" project.
- Missing Delivery Point Invoices (missing locations?): Removed for unknown reasons.
- Usable Battle Gear during free-roam (Piggyback Collector's Edition strategy guide): Removed for balance reasons.
- "Burned/Skull Boss" Model (Kojima 2015 Launch Trailer): Unused for unknown reasons.
- Africa Burning Village Cutscene (E3 2014 trailer): Removed for unknown reasons.
- Africa Child Soldier Training Cutscene: Unused for unknown reasons.
- TGS 2014 Africa Mission (TGS 2014 gameplay presentation)
- Mission 46 Unused Dialogue (found in game files)
- "Mission 51" Unused Mission (found on CE Blu-Ray disc)
- Unused/unknown alternate costumes from the leaked script, including "Foxtrot". "Sandstorm", "Realtree", "Panther", "MGS3 Naked", "MGS3 Sneaking" and "MGS3 Tuxedo", along with buddy uniforms like "Horse_Parade" and "Horse_Western". Removed for unknown reasons.

For reference, there were some text files in Ground Zeroes that seemed to hint at content in TPP that never showed up either, including several weapons like a Machete, AK102, Mosin Nagant, SCAR and M4. A Machete Key Item can be collected in TPP, but it's a weapon for D-Walker.

I think those guns mentioned are in the game, but non-licensed. IIRC, there's about three different assault rifle brands, each of which kind of match up with the AK, M4, and SCAR. There's a mosin nagant ripoff too.

A very serious game with very serious themes

btw, I found some sort of glitch on the extreme battle with the Metal Gear.

Called in a chopper and got in a tank, then at a certain point in the map the metal gear would just stand there, he would still attack but wouldn't move around anymore, managed to cheese it this way using bomb drops, the chopper and shooting from the tank, the tank apparently becomes indestructuble too apparently, no matter how he attacked it wasn't destroyed.

Can't really beat it that way though, when his life reaches half he tosses the grenade with the metallic archea destroying the tank, didn't manage to trigger that glitch again on the second half.

Didn't happened only once either, I got it to happen two more times, wasn't able to actually beat it though.

Ah, freakin' hell. -_-

Snake was always a Western action hero while Raiden was anime inspired. It shouldn't surprise anyone that Risinng went more over the top. It's really just continuing what MGS4 started. His feats in that game were overpowered anime as fuck.

No. While MGS has its Japanese background and influences, what made the series so great is its mesh of everything else along with it. PW was too anime, it tipped the scale way off balance. Rising was straight up anime fanfiction crap and it was pretty dumb because of it. MGS3 was the best of all MGS games. It has the perfect balance of Japanese and Western influences. Hell, even Kojima & Shinkawa say that they approach MGS with the intent on making it easily identifiable on a wide scale basis. If it was pure anime, then the target audience would be in Japan only and people outside of Japan who are into that. I am not, and yet MGS has been my favorite series since '98.

Nobody is saying it's pure anime, just heavily inspired by anime. Some of the games exhibit this influence more like MGS4 and Rising. Others tone down that inspiration like MGS3 and MGS. There is no denying that anime and Japanese culture have a large part in the appeal of these games. It's part of why these games are so intriguing. Kojima is making games with a Western aesthetic from a Japanese perspective.

Big Boss wasn't meant to die in the original game. So if Kojima came up with the Venom twist to explain his "first death", then he doesn't remember much of his own games.

Thanks, I don't know how I forgot that, but at least I'm not the only one.

And this still works with the retcon, especially if both of them really consider themselves Big Boss. It didn't need to be, but then 90% of the retcons in the series weren't necessary.

MGS 1-3 had dumb anime stuff but I could take it seriously. And I always will.

Rising is a fantastic game and I hope we get a sequel but it is on a whole other level of stupid. There IS a distinction between classic MGS dumb and full Rising dumb. So count me on the side of Infinity Patriot.

Exactly. MGS had its own identity. When you say MGS feels MGS, you'd probably be thinking of MGS 1-3. Even 4, for that matter. But Rising, MGSV, and PW kind of lose that feel. I like the series tone they took with GZ/TPP, but they lost so much more in translation.

You straight up said the opposite a few pages ago.

i feel that now that we have the Complete Collected Works of Hideo Kojima and the Metal Gear Myth Cycle in our cultural possession, I should roll up my sleeves and type out a start to finish chronological account of the Metal Gear saga, from MGS3 to Revengeance

It will keep every single plot hole and retcon

Literally everything Raiden does in MGS4 is anime as fuck. Even by the end of MGS2 has a sword and takes out an army of RAYs. Rising was very faithful to the character's style.

Rising also isn't an MGS game. It doesn't have the Solid moniker. I think it's best to take it as its own thing rather than directly compare it to say MGS3.

I will actually send you money to possess such a thing

Its a thing you wouldn't even have to embellish with sarcasm or remarks. The whole thing would speak for itself.

Everything was nanomachines/parasites

Done. :-P

Might be a common question, but I want to avoid spoilers so I am posting here. At the beginning of the game,
I made an avatar for a new appearance. However, my character still looks like Big Boss. I really do not need any spoilers as an answer, but will that make sense why I made an avatar that I haven't seen yet? I thought perhaps other people would see me in the game as the avatar, but the doctor's mirror showed Big Boss while he was getting choked.
Thanks!

Imo Venom Snake would've been amazing if he developed some twisted personality that made him different and justified his existence."

I think Ahab would be much more interesting to follow if he was more of his own character rather than just a vessel for the player. I don't mind him not being any different from Ishmael when in role, but it would be nice to see him breaking from knowing his life was taken from him, and he couldn't even trust his memories anymore. His conflict between wanting to be who he really was but not knowing any other way to live other than as Big Boss would be interesting, but instead he barely reacts because it's supposed to make us react, not Ahab. The problem is that most people, instead of reacting with a "FUCK YOU, BIG BOSS", reacted with a "fuck off, Kojima". He broke the 4th wall and the players broke it right back at him. Fiddles everywhere.

This is how the Patriots AI were born.

I can agree with you that MGSV, Peace Walker and Ground Zeroes loses that MGS feel. I just think Rising is the "logical" continuation of MGS4's craziness.

Honestly PW is when I started to check out of the series. Ground Zeroes' story and direction left a terrible impression on me, and MGSV looks like a fully realized PW. Gameplay wise all are among the best playing, but all the other games struck a better balance between story telling , cinematic, and innovative gameplay.

You straight up said the opposite a few pages ago.

I was being facetious, I know Metal Gear isnt an anime, but there is no denying it's roots and influences. Plus I say anime inspired right there.

Yeah, not sure why Rising is being brought up considering it's a spinoff and it's an entirely different genre (character action as opposed to stealth) altogether. Drawing comparsons from that to the mainline games seems kinda silly.

get out of the fucking thread and play the game

you're running in a minefield

A very serious game with very serious themes

I said "Child Molester" to myself when I first saw it, but it wasn't like I didn't see it coming. It was probably the commercialized propaganda pedophilia has been marketed underground or on the main stage. I attempted not to think of a possible child molesters on board MB, but with a group of men and some young kids; one would wonder how real this world is.

I'm honestly not trying to say Kojima should have covered these things nor should they be in the story, but I just assume that half these kids were soldiers living in the world of monsters driven by power, lust, and greed.

It's something that is probably a real problem, but certainly isn't addressed in MGS. They didn't cover the criminal history of the men aboard MB either.

MGS 2 had a fat guy riding around on roller blades planting bombs and an actual vampire

You know thinking about it, it's kind of funny. Every seems to have their own idea's of what really stands out. Which I think is part of the charm of the series. Oh a vampire isn't out of bounds, but a marriage in gun fire is. Everyone seems to draw the line of where the series "jumped the shark" in terms of being crazy in different parts.

Yeah, Raiden went full anime in 4. As much as I don't care for 4, it still 'felt' MGS to me. I still shed manly tears when Otacon told Sunny about Snake going to a better place. First time an MGS game kicked me in the gut with feels was the ending of MGS3.

4 had Raiden breakdancing to destroy Gekkos in a high heeled ninja suit so I count that one out :p

Fair enough, but it still 'felt' MGS more so than Rising or PW did.

I think Ahab would be much more interesting to follow if he was more of his own character rather than just a vessel for the player.

Exactly. This is where my disappointment comes in.

Honestly Ground Zeroes felt fine in comparison to PW & MGSV in terms of that 'MGS feel'.

Well it is the same in the real world come to think of it. Why do people follow the US President when it's his assistant (White House's Chief of Staff) who is doing most of the things?

Big Boss is the one who DID everything. That's why soldiers follow him in MGSV, but they don't even realize it actually isn't him, but a shell. That's why MGSV's story is so disappointing. We play as a damn vessel. Kojima needs to think of the players as a soldier that wants to follow Big Boss & not think that all the players are mindless Big Boss wannabees.

Miller does all of these speeches, why does anyone follow the medic or Big Boss

Well it is the same in the real world come to think of it. Why do people follow the US President when it's his assistant (White House's Chief of Staff) who is doing most of the things?

I wonder if I'll be able to replay MGS1-MGS3 without the phantom pain MGS5 left me with. I hope TPP didn't ruin the great games for me.

Why would it? The events of TPP really only affect MG1 and MG2. It changes nothing in MGS1-3 other than giving a motive for Ocelot to assassinate Miller.

Or do you mean the gameplay is so good in V that it makes the older games hard to go back to. I know I'm replaying 3 on Vita and boy, the controls are difficult.

Isn't it part of the canon? I mean yes, it's a spinoff and a different genre, but it's chronologically the last game in the MGS saga.

President is usually the one giving the speeches though.

after mgsv and peace walker, i accept mgs4. Sure there's a little too much cutscenes, but it's understandable seeing as how its the big finale to the series. The Ocelot final battle and Big Boss making peace with Snake makes it all worth it.
