I love how you can tell in the tapes that big boss has a different personality then venom medic
I did, but it has since been removed
It has Venom coming to terms with being BB's shadow. There's a lot to interpret from it, but my favorite line was "Just another mission... right Boss?" The way Kiefer delivers the line just oozes a sense of loyalty and even affection from Venom, to the point where you begin to realize why he was BB's #1 even before he became his phantom. One of the only moments in the game where he's given a distinct sense of character. And it was cut. :/ Hopefully it's floating around the internet elsewhere.
You don't actually have to do that though, you can always travel there by land if you choose not to leave by helicopter. You'll find an intel drop instead with all your mission details.
When people say it doesn't feel like MGS, they aren't referring to gameplay (at least I'm not). It's referencing the story, the bullshit twist, and the ending which DID NOT bring everything full circle. It only retconned things that didn't need to be and brought up more questions.
Its split up into missions and has a different structure overall. Little emphasis is placed on the boss fights which seem like an afterthought. Fultoning soldiers and base management is only in PW previously.
Superb game but it's totally different. It most certainly is not tactical espionage action. It is tactical espionage operations!
Me too.I love how you can tell in the tapes that big boss has a different personality then venom medic
That's counter intuitive to game design though. You would know what to expect. Killing any tension in said mission.
Completely agree with these statements. It's also an open world game. I enjoyed the linearity of MGS1-4.
Honestly MGS5 could have been a spin-off. Metal Gear Theft Auto.
The only reason I can think of to remove that last Venom speech is to keep it ambiguous if he hates BB for what be he did or if he's still loyal.
Which is dumb imo since being overly ambiguous for something like that isn't what a "missing link" game should do.
"Oh, it's the part of the story where I'm supposed to die? Kay sounds good."Another thing... why the hell did Volgin walk under the platform holding up Metal Gear?
"hai gaiz ima kill myself nao"
so was anybody ashamed of their words and deeds concerning Quiet or nah

There are ways to make it work. The Solid Snake mission can take place months or years after you stop controlling Big Boss, so the areas can be remixed and new elements can be introduced so that you don't actually know much going in that kills the sense of exploration or progression. It doesn't have to be 1:1 with how you built it up at all, but it could give you certain advantages to make an otherwise insurmountable task more manageable.
Having this enormous war machine at your disposal as Big Boss, rescuing and recruiting badass characters to fight by your side, given every advantage in the first half of the game as this leader of men, and then having it all stripped in Chapter 2 as Solid Snake, fighting Big Boss's charismatic comrades as boss encounters (who you as the player relate to and feel for because of the first half) and desperately scrounging for weapons and items that you can't have supply dropped to you on a whim...and then winning anyway, against all odds.
That completes the circle. It shows why Solid Snake is the namesake of the series. It's ambitious but plausible. Mother Base ideally wouldn't be a lame empty oil rig maze in that case of course, and the people you recruited also wouldn't all have randomly generated names and no personalities, and you'd have to scale back the Big Boss portion to probably not have the open world elements but be a series of story missions like Ground Zeroes. But it's plausible and I'd take it in a heartbeat.
You should be ashamed of your words and deeds. The only one who should be ashamed is Kojima.
She was doing stripper dances at certain points.
Yeah it was a great piece, really surprised they didn't use it.
He's just poking it.
That scene actually makes it look like Kaz is wondering about Quiet's power. Look at the scene again, at the very end he looks like he's thinking "hmm, maybe I could get my arm and leg back if I had the parasite".

Went back to the game for the first time since finishing it tonight.
As I suspected, I think I'm done with the game for now. I still enjoy the hell out of the core gameplay loop. I just have absolutely zero motivation to continue any Mother Base development or Side Ops content. It's disappointing that that's a consequence of the narrative choices rather than the gameplay running out of steam. I don't feel like I want to stop yet, but lack a motivation to continue. Like I have unfinished business with the game despite finishing the story and playing it for 64 hours.
who thought it was a great idea to start off every single mission with the same fuckin' intro, zooming into the back of not-Big Boss's head, walking over to the side door, sitting on the side as you slooooowly approach the landing zone, wait for the "exit helicopter" prompt to show up, "be careful out there boss!", and then you got to run/drive/ride several hundred meters to the action anyway.
Every
Single
Time
With opening credits spoiling any surprises.

No, its a an unbalanced and very poorly designed mission. Is there any way to stop a shell from OHKOing you in 45? I have rank 3 battle dress and headband and that's still not enough.
Probably the same person who thought it was a good idea for the final mission to be a straight up redo of the (bad) first mission with a minor tweak in the opening cutscnee, and not...y'know, give a shortened version or something.
so was anybody ashamed of their words and deeds concerning Quiet or nah
Well, fuckin' shit! Thanks for posting that, 'cause I never even saw that during my playthrough -_-
I'm in the exact same situation as you. I really charged through everything to get to the ending. And now that there's no more story missions to play... I really don't see the point in leveling up mother base or developing weapons at all. It doesn't help that the story was so bad. I don't even want to use Fake Ass Big Boss anymore, but it just feels even worse playing my custom dude. Ugh.
I was trying to do all the Wandering Mother Base Soldiers missions, but one of the later ones just kept hitting me with sleeping gas, and I just got fed up. Fed up with too many bullshit gameplay moments like that, and the bullshit story. I'm done with this game, at least for a few days, if not longer.
Really disappointed in this game.
I think I would have been ok with the parasites if they were man-made and used solely for the purposes of Skull Face's plan (using them kill off a language is kind of a neat idea imo). Using them as midichlorians/nanomachines is fucking amateur hour.

So I'm not the only person who thought the hospital mission was boring as hell? Everyone kept talking about how amazing it was, but I couldn't wait for it to be over. It just kept dragging on and on for me.Probably the same person who thought it was a good idea for the final mission to be a straight up redo of the (bad) first mission with a minor tweak in the opening cutscnee, and not...y'know, give a shortened version or something.

Ya know. It probably would have been a better choice to replay that mission but from Big Boss's POV.
After finding out the reason why people should be ashamed is, "parasites mean she has to be naked even though everyone else who uses parasite powers is fully clothed," yeah, totally.
I mean, she's walking fanservice. That's not the end of the world -- characters can be intentionally sexualized and titillating and are all the time, and sex isn't evil -- but it should be said straight up and not justified with bullshit excuses. Don't thousand year old demon us, Kojima. Just say why Quiet really wears a bikini and has extreme tit physics and bends over in front of your face every 30 seconds on the ACC and dances soaking wet in the rain.
When it started that's what I expected, pretty dissapointing.Ya know. It probably would have been a better choice to replay that mission but from Big Boss's POV.
mgs4 syndrome. where everything must be explained in meticulous detail just to make sure everybody gets it.A language activated proto-FOXDIE would have worked better, I agree.
Explaining superpowers with language parasites ... just ... don't even bother, I'd say.

the prologue is fun first time around, but any more than that and you'll be begging to be put back into a coma
slow, but there's enough intrigue about what's going on to get most through it without complaint. once the mystery of what's happening/what comes next is gone... it's just a boring tutorial. It was glacially paced even the first time through. At least during the Truth I could skip most of the cutscenes.
Do they explain why Quiet is ignorant to her sexual inappropriateness?
She doesn't seem unintelligent. I don't get the sense that it's a cultural difference. But she's stripping down and rolling around in the rain like she isn't aware of the connotations of that.
Did her brain get burnt, or something?
