I believe Paz's return is explained if you complete her 'questline'.

2) It would seem they blinded him to keep up appearances.

3) Probably because he gives him discipline. They probably have a son/step-father relationship due to Eli not really having a strong parental influence.

4) In what way? In what game? I don't think they interact much in MGSV, but I could see them interacting due to The Sorrow being Ocelot's father.

5) It would seem to be Ocelot.

6) No, I don't know why Ocelot's hair is that colour at 40 years old, whilst Big Boss doesn't have a single gray hair.

Ah that explains it, I did not get the last Mother Base missing crew member photo...I guess I should get to it then.

2°) Phacoemulsification without replacing the lens. Because ethics lol.

3°) Well it makes sense when you put it that way.

4°) In MGS1. If the kid in MGS V really is Psycho Mantis, I find it weird he and Ocelot do not interact more in MGS1. Ah well, no use theorizing over retcons.

6°) Because he's the son of the Joy and The Sorrow

Did I miss this part? I saw a cutscene last night where Quiet bashes some guy's teeth in, but I had no idea why that even happened. The narratives in this game often feel on the wrong side of "non-linear"

It's part of her last mission.

That's right.

The whole bashing teeth thing was because she knew that guy was infected and wanted to kill him or maybe extract the larynx to burn the parasite.

As to the last mission it is not shown directly but
after the soldier drowns Quiet in the water tank and seemingly loses consciousness, you hear a zipping sound, and next thing you see is Quiet kicking the shit out of him, but pants-less whereas she was fully clothed in the previous shot.

A guard tries it but then gets killed along with his unit because Quiet is a fucking badass even when "suffocating" by wearing clothes.

Fucking Kojima taking away the best buddy. Just give her the vaccine and let her stay.

She has to disappear.

MGSVI is Venom Snake's quest to find her.

MGSVI: In search of silence

A 'she defended herself from rape and stabbed a dude in the dick 12 times, then massacred all of the other soldiers involved' story, rather.

It's ... weird.

Man, what a crock of shit. The pandering costumes, camera angles, and lack of expression were bad enough, but that's just horrible all around.

For those freaking out about BB/V, Ocelot even tells BB to get his face changed to medic's when he gives him a passport with the photo. If he does, BB will never have the face we've known, until MGS4 :o)

So how did Venom Snake pack on so much muscle in just ten days?

I swear the more I think about this story the worse it gets.

When you think about any story trying to find inconsistencies you'll end up hating it. Just kick back and keep playing side ops.

Which is lucky because I tried to make my create a character look like old Big Boss. So he got his face changed into a budget version of the face he would eventually have anyway.

Anyone else completely underwhelmed by the opening? It was okay, but I didn't see anything that made me go, "oh this is GOTY already" just from the hospital. I honestly don't get what was so great about it. It was kinda boring honestly, and we'd seen probably 80% of it in the trailers already.

I wanted a lighter and a can of hairspray as an unlockable weapon since this is "MGSV: Big Boss Can Go To Hell"

0.5/10

( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

They should have made "Boss Stink" more of an integral part of the game and that it occurs faster. So if you reach stink status, outposts can smell you a mile off.

THEN, Kaz and co develop aerosol for you to take out on missions, thus giving a nice link up to MG2.

Oh and Venom doesnt really smoke I guess? He uses that e-cigar lit from iDroids while Big Boss demands a proper one lit by lighter from indentured manservant Ocelot.

I liked the atmospere in the beginning, but it went on for far too long and took my player control far too often. Let me play goddamnit.

That was your problem.

[Important Announcement] Regarding game progress being stopped in "METAL GEAR SOLID V: THE PHANTOM PAIN" under specific circumstances.

In METAL GEAR SOLID V: THE PHANTOM PAIN which was released on September 1st, 2015 there is a possibility that the game stops progress if having Quiet as a buddy while playing "Mission 29" or "Mission 42". This situation can be avoided by not using Quiet as a buddy while playing either "Mission 29" or "Mission 42".

We deeply apologize, and appreciate your patience for further announcements regarding this issue.

Okay I just saw Paz's sidequest final scene.

Venom Snake was just hallucinating through it ? Was that regret/remorse over how he didn't felt her back passage when looking for bombs ?

What ?

I thought the opening was fantastic but I do agree that too much was spoiled. The same can be said for GZ and the game in general. I can't remember too many cutscenes that weren't in trailers.

For a game with such a light story, TPP had way too many story trailers.

I know the joke is Kojima always spoils his games with trailers, but this time he went so far that theres stuff in the trailers that aint even in the game. He showed every last fucking scrap he could, and the game felt like it had barely any fresh cutscenes because of it.

alright, so how do we use battle gear in deployment missions again? i didn't use it at all through my last playthrough but i'd like to give it a try this time around.

See, she had to go. Damn parasites would fuck your save!

It's certain missions under combat deployment. When you see the icon that looks like it, it'll be used.

Guys at some point we need to just accept the fact that a lot of things that took place in MG1 and MG2 are basically retconned.

In MG2 Solid Snake never mentioned that Big Boss was his father, that was put in place for MGS. Bickering over the fact Miller didn't have prosthetic limbs in MG2 artwork is silly considering he looked asian in MG2.

Games are fucking old guys, at this point the only thing set in stone are the fact that the events happened in some form, the motivations and fine details have been changing game after game.

Yeah this is what I though too. At least she got her revenge and snake let her have it.

What ?

I imagine there isn't as much importance factored into the why as much as him being so traumatized that the hallucinations happened in the first place. Fits in snug with their 'phantom pain' motif and it's probably the most relevant use of the part where Snake was supposed to be having hallucinations the whole time.

These aren't the stages of grief here. Pointing out the hilarity in the degree to which things are retconned and 'accepting' them don't fall on a single line.

This is funny, but plot-wise, I really prefer the Solid Snake saga.
Gameplay-wise, Big Boss saga is king (except MGS3 while is not my favourite, was pretty much good on all aspects).

If we're going by the "Kojima was too ambitious" narrative.

He would have planned 3 chapters with 50 side-ops per chapter or some of those side-ops were supposed to be filler main ops. 40-50 hours is kind short for an open world game. Kojima could have been at least trying to match most open world games.

  • Chapter 1: Revenge ends with Skullface in Afghanistan
  • Chapter 2: Race ends with Eli and the Child Soldiers in Africa
  • Chapter 3: (some kind of synthesis of Chapter 1 and 2 ) ends with Big Boss or Solid Snake in Camp Omega or Outer Heaven.

Somewhere along chapter 2 Konami gets cold feet with:
  • the race issues (Do Japanese companies even care about these?)
  • or the money issues (probably a bigger deal)
  • or doing the Outer Heaven stuff in the same game instead of a stand alone.
and eventually cuts Kojipro's funding.

Kojima is forced to end the series with the twist being under explored. Meaning the twist would still be there but the exposition stuff like in MGS2 was never produced.

All supposition of course. No evidence to back it up.

You can 100% almost any non-RPG open world game in 40-50 hours. MGSV is 100+ hours to 100%. Even the main story is longer than most. It's not short by any standard. It's probably too long for it's own good, there's way too many side ops.

The birthday cutscene is the worst cutscene in the game. We set that birthday when we set V's name, implying it's his birthday and not Big Boss's. Why does anyone know it's his birthday and why does he not think "Hey, I'm Big Boss, it's not my birthday."

Semi serious.

Does anyone actually know when BB has birthday? They might as well think that this is his birthday.

I gave up on Kojima having a master plan after MGS2. Hell, he even admitted to all the retcons and pulling shit out of his ass on a game-by-game basis a year or two ago in various interviews for MGSV.

On the short list of plot-wise things I did like about the game, I thought the casual outlook on the "future of the snakes" in the final title card conversation by Ocelot and Miller was kind of cool. Both acknowledging one would end up killing the other, and drawing their lines in the sand. Ocelot playing ride or die with the OG Big Boss (along with Liquid and Solidus) and Miller going "fuck it, Big Boss is a loser" and backing Venom (and later Solid Snake).

According to Hideo Kojima's notes in the Piggyback Collector's Edition Guide's art gallery, Ocelot was given a more neutral role in the game in order to adjust the balance, as all of the characters lost something and seek some form of revenge, which would prejudice the story and game had Ocelot not been present. He also confirms that Ocelot and Kazuhira Miller are not friends/allies at all, and in fact, none of the Mother Base staff are buddies, only working alongside each other because of Snake, and would collapse the moment their leader ceases to exist.

I prefer to believe Ocelot was the "unknown assailant" now, although Miller still had the last laugh in that Solid Snake was the one that stood tall in the end.

Didn't Ocelot work against Liquid and Solidus though?

Didn't Ocelot work against Liquid and Solidus though?

He was working with Liquid and double crossing him with Solidus while triple crossing them both to help Big Boss take down the patriots. So, if you assume that even though he is betraying everyone at once he is actually also working with them, then all is well.

More like it's the best cutscene in MGSV

It was a good cutscene but I am personally fed up with this "All strong female characters need to be raped, have been raped or almost raped" trope that has been super popular for the past few years in media.

At least we the user didn't have to protect her in the end or "feel the need to protect" Quiet
cough cough Lora

She handled herself quiet well.

hehehehe, get it?

Didn't Ocelot work against Liquid and Solidus though?

Sort of? I think it would be more accurate to refer to Liquid and Solidus as "weapons" that Ocelot made use of, his loyalty was ultimately to Big Boss. His agenda was always separate to their aim(s). Liquid thought Ocelot was his right hand (there's a good joke there somewhere), but he was actually goading him along according to Solidus's plan, of which he was only part of to engineer the total collapse of the Patriot's AI (i.e. the ultimate endgame for Big Boss's sake).

I finished the game last night and didn't even realize I finished the game until just now. Spent 6 hours running around mother base and doing side ops hoping to trigger Chapter 3 somehow. I really liked the plot twist but are they really going to end the game there? Are they really going to let the whole "bunch of kids stole a giant mech and a biological weapon" thing just hang there and not resolve it? Am I really supposed to watch a youtube video with unfinished cutscenes to get closure on this 100 hour epic I just poured my life into? It is so weird that a game with this much content, quality and attention to detail is left without a proper ending.
