Destiny - The Taken King |OT| Time to Explain

This is how I feel about the game. I played an hour and reached level 25 but I've experienced all of the games content except for the raid. I don't have time to waste on grinding strikes for maybe a piece of new gear. I'd like to experience TTKs new content but not for 50 bucks.

On a side note. I'm at level 25 and i don't have a single piece of legendary or exotic armor. It pisses me off that in all the hours I wasted on this game I never got a single drop or end mission reward.

You never got a single piece of legendary gear? I take it this means you never reached any rank in Vanguard, Crucible or any of the three main factions? And you never got a random drop?

That stinks, but I'm actually kind of impressed, you really beat the odds.

Aren't they mostly at the higher level though? I can't imagine I'll be experiencing many of these campaigns in the first say, 10 or so hours of the game right? Or is there stuff you can experience from moment zero?

The main story splits itself into the 3 questlines (vanilla, dark below, and house of wolves) pretty early. I'd say around...2-3 hours. It's about halfway through the second planet

For story, not anymore. House of wolves highest story quest was level 22 or 24, couldn't remember. Beating all 3 stories nets you a legendary gun each.

I will say that I played a fair number of hours at the 20 level cap just grinding strikes for what felt like no good reason. It's what made me quit the first time. Didn't have a group to play the raids with, so that was about it.

But when I came back, I focussed on grinding Vanguard rep, started buying legendary gear (Never got any through a drop and have since only gotten about 3 total pieces through drops) and was able to play content to net me a more substantial amounts of Strange Coins and Motes of Light for Xur.

It was at that time the game really felt like it opened up; like there was a whole second half of the game focussed on building my character and getting into more challenging content that I didn't even know existed. It really seemed to drive the point home that Bungie really screwed up with the "20 and then Light" system.

I'm not 100% convinced TTK will fix everything I disliked about Destiny originally, but I'm in, and I'm hoping it'll turn my opinion totally around.

GORGEOUS OP. Seriously impressive.

So glad with patch 2.0 and READY FOR TTK BABY. Got my physical CE paid off and ready to go.

Also its so good seeing so many newcomers to Destiny and people burned out coming back. Destiny GAF gonna be even bigger than it already is :-)

People still don't get Control. It's crazy.

Haha you guys are getting me worried I am doing something completely wrong since I don't play it much. Had to google and seems I was doing it right. Didn't know exactly which point was best at every map but other than that =)

I thought Rift was easy as well but yeah the spawncamping sucks. Nice with some more objective focused game modes anyway. Would still love to have even more since I am more used to games like Killzone, TF2, Battlefield etc. Deathmatch really isn't my thing.

So someone put me on game here. What exactly should I be doing in preparation for TTK?

Edge out your crucible rep, Vanguard rep, faction rep, and cryptarc rank (assuming they are rank 3 or higher).

This means you get as close to leveling them up as possible, but DO NOT level them up until after TTK drops.

This is because when you level them up 3+ ranks, you get a package with a guranteed new legendary weapon.

However any packages you get before TTK will turn into a year 1 weapon/armor. That's why you level them up AFTER TTK launches

EDIT: it's also a good idea to do those Gunsmith test weapons so you can order a weapon next week.

I'm probably missing other prep tips

Is the end result of doing the two class talent quests the same or should I do it twice? On my hunter I just got the level 40 cloak, but before I do it again on the other talent tree, I'd like to know if I'm wasting my time.

Ok cool I have my dead orbit on level 2 about to be 3 and my crucible+vanguard are very close as well. So I'll need to work on the gunsmith weapons.

Need to do this on all 3 characters then.

they're similar and they give you different class items for each subclass.

Amazon just charged me the $49 for Taken King. Oh hell yeah!!!

So pumped. We love the game at our house. It's created a big backlog for us! Haha

Good god. Played through Dark Below and zi guess I am close to finishing HoW now. Don't think i will ne anywhere close to 34. I noticed that there are like..... A lot of reputation bars to grind on in this. Is that what the game is? Grind rep to buy weapons?

If you make it that way. Or you could choose to let rep just be something that happens and enjoy the higher end content of nightfalls and raids and the occasional Iron Banner and more

You only really need to grind one rep for weapons. Most of the differences between the factions are aesthetic only. I never bothered with that. Cryptarch is better.

Are you picking up bounties as you do the quests? That should over level you. Last year you had to grind rep to buy weapons / gear just to get into the normal version of the first raid.

When I say bounties, I don't just mean the ones from Petra and Eris

Better safe than sorry, did it on all 3 Guardians, both skill trees, each guardian is ready to collect two rewards each, but will wait until Tuesday to cash in the xp

I'm pretty sure we downloaded the expansion already. I really doubt the MP maps were 17gb alone.

I'm guessing majority of TTK is already downloaded and just needs to be enabled.

Well I suppose we have to download something anyway since I can see three items set to autodownload today, from the related items view on PS4. The Taken King, Suros pack, and the preorder theme.

So yeah, maybe we just download the activation flag and that's it.

Edge your reps for all fractions.

Stock up on bounties. Some us still have the 5000 XP bounties before 2.0 drop and currently stocking up 3000XP so 10 5000XP bounties and 6 3000XP bounties in total.

Do public events daily but don't collect the packages from the postmaster. Each package gives 2500XP each so you can collect 20 packages in the postmaster.

Once you stock up on XP rewards. Do the TTK quest normally until you unlock the third subclass from there use a focus light item that boost XP gains which you get from the redbull code and cash in all your XP packages and bounties. In the end you will get faction rewards, massive boost in levels and sub class leveling and also level up a few weapons/armor.

Most likely the activation flag.

Also when will this go up? Like do we know what time the Taken King actually releases?

I've read somewhere that it goes up with Tuesday reset... Not sure though, but it makes sense.

PD: Pulled from Bungie forums

TTK launches at 2am PST on September 15th.
You will not be able to play TTK before that time.

I've been playing with my new titan this week and now I really want a Warlock, I'll use the boost with him and play him first in the Expansion I think.

Arghhh, I'm soooo hooked to this now, totally unexpected for me too.

Hyped as hell.

You can't play TTK without owning the first two expansions. Do you own them already? If so then why are you not buying the $40 digital version?

Yeah I own the first two.

I can't justify spending £40 on an expansion when I could get an entirely brand new game for that price.

My plan was to sell the disc and the first two expansions' code to make up some of the cost.

It'll say in the item description what you need to do. The pulse rifle is precision shots, solar sniper is double kills (2 kills in a short span), fusion rifle is crucible, blue snipe is crucible, rocket is yellow enemies.

Damn I should have seen that. Thanks.

I feel so underpowered coming back to destiny.

yeah, something like a 1MB dummyfile that changes one value from false to true :D

can't... take... the hype

:) PoE drops a guaranteed exotic the first time you play it with a character. I've read some reports of people actually grind them. That's dedication :P

What! Not for me, but I didn't get down to the vault the first time either. Nobody told me abou that. I guess I'm screwed.

Really looking forward to jumping back into Destiny again. Only played the vanilla so very excited to play all the expansions with these new changes :)

One question regarding the expansion, those of us who are not buying it but own the previous DLC, what will this mean for us in terms of playing content like Trials of Osiris which has level advantage built in..?

Will I now have a constant disadvantage in ToO just because I don't own the latest expansion?

Really hype for this. Only thing that bums me out is the lack of new enemy types. Yeah, there's The Taken, but they are literally just the old enemies with a texture over them.
