Metacritic user score = zero fucks given. It's an absolutely meaningless number.
That's not true. From that user score, I can tell that consumers are unhappy with Bungie or Destiny for some reason. Whenever I see a score like that, I can tell that there was some kind of controversy (DRM, red/blue ending, bad port, etc).
95% of players wont touch the raid so it is fine. How can they give a proper review without raid or end-game events?
Thanks for clarifying this for me - I was on the fence for purchasing an Aussie retail release but if it's just a DLC code it won't work with my US PSN account. Looks like digital it is, but with our horrific exchange rate it'll cost me over A$100 for the pack.
Not including all this content on the disc is ridiculous, and seems super lazy and misleading. (Though, I'm sure it's printed on the box. That won't stop me stamping my feet)
Fuck that. If they can't put the content on the freaking disc then that is awful.
My Early Review:
You can get to LVL 40 by doing missions, killing things
Yes, there is a story this time.
Very low level might need to go to make room for new ones,
Exotic/Legendary weapons still have perks that some of these weapons dont.
You can get Legendary marks by doing Weekly Heroic vanguard playlist. you get plus 10 but the level on that playlist is LVL 41.
The new enemies have a shade of black and white, no innovation there.

Skimming through the reviews the majority seem to be complaints about either the price or the way the Taken King interacts with past Dlc. Some people are giving a bad review because they are angry that because they didn't buy the Taken King that their options are now limited in the game. This is not really a valid criticism of the Dlc itself though.
I foresee a lot of this line in the reviews.this is the game Destiny should have been from the beginning.
lolwhat
I guess this is what happens when you try to push a game with mmo tendencies into the general market
greatest game comeback?
If you put that kind of faith in user Metacritic scores I have some bad news for you.....
The numbers are literally meaningless to me, it's just a forum for angry fanchildren to rate games they've never played 0 or 10.
People who purchased the original game but not the DLC can either A) buy all 3 dlc items for $80 or B) buy the same disc they already own with DLC codes in the box for $60. Do I understand this correctly? And you wonder why people are confused? No MMO I know of has such bizarre pricing.
Hasn't Destiny been super popular the entire time, though?

you're right, most mmo's charge money every month, fail, and then re-release as a f2p mmo.
No doubt but there was also a huge chunk of players who burned out and dropped off right when end game grind hit.
There are a lot of ways to give readers impressions without pretending you can give it a thorough review based on two days of playing at Bungie, IMO. Most of the reputable outlets just posted impressions and noted that their reviews would be coming later. As someone who might not ever play raids, I just want to know if the base game is better for a solo player. I own Destiny but got bored and stopped playing once I hit LV10. It sounds like it's much better for a player like myself, this time around.
I feel like most people who love raids are probably going to grab TTK no matter what. Seems like a safe assumption, IMO.

The issue is people are reactionary and its either worst game ever it best

Probably something about the pricing? Or that energy drink think from forever ago? Or some kind of "this should have been the way the game was from the start"?That's not true. We didn't go to the event (too much $ for flights/hotels and we don't accept travel from publishers), but I think it was all of TTK minus the raid.Ah so Bungie gave the press 2 days access? Dig you guys get access to the Raid? No spoiler obviously just curious

It's no A Realm Reborn.greatest game comeback?
Oh dang, I didn't know some of these reviews were coming from 2-day events. My bad. There are a lot of ways to give readers impressions without pretending you can give it a thorough review based on two days of playing at Bungie, IMO. I might be mistaken on that price, just checked the US Store (at work, so only briefly) and it seems the pack, if you already have Destiny, is US$59.99. Still pricey but not quite as horrific. Works out to about A$84.Damn, I'm in the same boat. The price seems insane. I'd like to play it, but don't think I can justify paying full price for an expansion pack (decently sized though it may be)
Lol, no, it's not even close to the miracle that FFXIV:ARR was, or even what Blizzard managed with D3 and it's expansion, Reaper of Souls. The Taken King is good, no doubt, but it doesn't go anywhere near far enough for a full-scale "comeback". It's not going to convert anyone. It's just more Destiny, only with less bullshit and more reason.greatest game comeback?
Holy crap at the user score. What the hell?!?

I would say launch Destiny to what we have now is easily on par with those jumps
Also TTK is $70 in Australia, pretty sure you can get the whole thing for that price physically with base game and other expansions.
wait what, so they've actually essentially taken features away from players? I can only see three 'old' playlists now which are essentially FFA, 3v3, and 6v6. what about the other stuff? really locked behind TTK now?![]()

Why? Destiny is a completely online game with constant support. Expecting this support to come free forever is quite silly and nothing has been hidden about that since the first DLC. If you like the game enough to be playing a year after launch I would think you would want to buy the DLC.Likewise for the people who praise it on this site. There is legitimate critique to be had here. There is simply not enough content to justify another year's worth of play/grind and then you have the shitty practice of punishing users for not opting into an annual subscription
The problem is not that people think it doesn't have enough content for a $60 fee. It's that the game is to many people absolutely nothing like the vision Bungie had originally laid out for the product. Maybe you can argue that is a misinterpretation, but people definitely expected a game with a far different scope of exploration than is currently available even now among other things. And part of that is due to direct quotes people on Bungie made about that fact. Others complain about the amount of repetitiveness relating to trying to get legendary gear. Still others were furious at how the game neutered the story, because as we now know tons of story content was removed at the last minute and their way of delivering story now is really off putting to many people.
Yes, content at the start was also not mighty impressive, particularly given the amount of high level content at the launch, but that is not why people were really angry with the product overall. Promises were made, but clearly not all were kept. It's revisionist history to act like we don't know why some are upset.
Which is insane since this game now is absolutely massive in content and is beyond what people should rightfully expect for a $60 flat fee. It's nuts.
greatest game comeback?
Nice scores, but no chance they experienced the end game let alone the Raid yet.
I've spent about 12 hours with it and I agree with those scores. Hopefully the raid has the same quality as the rest of ttk
This dead horse you are trying to beat isn't even what I was replying to. The whole "we were misled by bungie and the now imfamous vidocs" thing isn't the same as the argument of "this is how it should have been at launch" because you still can't go to those mountains and the game is still limited in scope to what some of you thought was coming despite an entirely honest beta. If people are still upset truly and honestly it's time to move on about years old vidocs.
