Destiny - The Taken King |OT| Time to Explain

did anyone pick up an armsday package?

Reddit is saying they are 280 weapons.... but if your rank one can you really just pick up a 280 weapon every week that easily? Seems too easy.

There was a similar system with House of Wolves, where if you ran the 32 PoE every week, you were guaranteed to at max level within 2-3 weeks (Xur exotic + 3 max light armors or etheric light ascended pieces)

The gunsmith's design seems to be that you're guaranteed to either have all 280 weapons within 3 weeks (not counting Xur), or at minimum there will be a gun you can infuse with any higher attack guns you find later.

Help please,

Got rid of destiny before TDB & HOW released, just got the legendary edition.

I have a suros with all bubbles unlocked, is this now junk? Is it worth upgrading it to max year one?

It will still work fine in normal PVP as that normalizes all stats so no one has a level advantage. Having it also unlocks the year 2 version of that weapon for purchase using new legendary marks, which you will start earning at lvl 40. The year one version will be immediately outclassed in PVE by new weapons with higher attack.

Not sure how accurate this is. I had a level 40 set of legendary gloves for some reason given to me when I was 36. Then I hit 40 and the first legendary the game gives me is a, you guessed it, gloves. So I was all greens and blues and one purple and it gives me another purple to replace the only purple I already had. There's definitely more blue drops now though. It rains them.

Same. There's no one waiting for a quest turn in anywhere, but it says I have one.
smart loot doesn't necessarily mean you're NOT getting dupes. In this case it seems to mean you're getting a constant flow of legendary and rare items to break down and pick and choose from. This constant flow guides you to your next mission and grows your light level steadily the more you play. Now X amount of time you put in gives you X amount of results. Being smart about the gear the game gets you helps out as well. We've gotten into the habit of dismantling blues to equip purples but here you're given purples and blues on equal footing. This leads you to use your blues and dismantle purples for marks to buy higher gear and weapons. Like I said a lot of the system seems to have a desired path instead of praying for that one purple drop that'll almost never happen to level to level you up. Now when you get a drop you actually have to decide how you want to go about using it and most of these drops are useful in someway.

It's fine for regular Crucible, since damage is equalized there. It's useless in PvE after level 20.

I think cashing in motes for gear XP is an unsung hero of the expansion. From running a few activities last night and today, I had 10 motes. After turning in some quest steps and engrams, I had a lot of new gear, cashed in the motes, and got the first several nodes unlocked on each. They seem to drop ~1,000 XP per mote. I have 900 of them in the vault - they'll come in handy once I get more legendary and exotic gear.

Destiny does a good job now of feeding a steady stream of gear and loot not tied to RNG. At any point in time 3 or 4 of my gear kit has come from quest drops, not RNG, and that seems to be increasing as I work into the later quest stages. When combined with motes it means there's a dedicated stream of good gear, and a way to unlock perks on them quickly. They get to be awesome right away. (I'm all for gear drops, but this is a better mix of gear sources than before.)

I also noticed that a lot of the new quests are there in part to nudge us out to see what's changed in the game. Go and kill high profile targets on patrol, one says. Okay, sure. I'll go kill some level 3 shanks.

Oh wait, it's a level 40 reaver vandal and his level 40 buddies and they're kicking my ass. Oh. And killing them drops 500 glimmer, 400 XP, faction and Vanguard rep. Patrol missions are both more challenging - and fun - and more rewarding than before. Without the quest to point me on that direction, I might not have noticed, because I never run those patrol missions.

Good stuff.

I totally forgot about motes working that way!

And the High Profile target patrols are excellent now for sure. Reminds me of the small Covenant encounters when playing Halo on legendary.

I'm so glad MGS5 has so much for me to do and MGO on the way, because I'm kind of tempted to get back into this. I've heard TTK has made way more improvements than I expected.

Maybe once I 100% MGS5 I'll give it a shot. Good to see so many people enjoying it though. I hope it's worth the 40 bucks.

Heard the Legendary edition release for Asia (SEA-South East Asia) is having a problem where, upon redeeming the code, players only get The Taken King portion of the game. The other two, Dark Below and House of Wolves are missing when the three of them are supposed to be included together.

Thanks for back to back shitty launches here in SEA countries Bungie.

I really appreciate how they've sprinkled Taken events and patrols into the old zones. Takes a boring bit of bounty-grinding and really gives it a lot of ohshitohshitohshitohshit urgency.

So, I did one of the post Oryx quests and got 25 LMs...COOL...and I had a Legendary AR and a higher ranked blue AR, so I thought I'd give Infuse a spin...only got 2 attack points increase out of it but whatever. That cost me 3 LMs. Today, looking at bungie.net at my chars, I have 0 LMs. Anyone else seem to lose LMs? Is this a website thing or are they really gone? All my other mats & glimmer seem correct.

I have placed MGSV on hiatus for this.

ikr. the game went missing from the PSN store in SEA 2 days before release too. I was unable to get the pre order rewards because of that.

I almost feel like Motes are better used to level up faction. :O

I like that they're hard as hell to solo right now. It's a lot of fun.

How would this game suit for me, as a player who played Vanilla Destiny for a month straight, then got bored/disappointed?

Destiny is my BIGGEST disappointment for the longest time, regarding video games. Shooting was fun, gameplay worked fine, BUT the content, story, everything else got to me in the end.

Has any of that changed for the better or should I just give up entirely?

It looks like they haven't updated Bnet with the new marks. I'm sure it'll all be there in game.

Herja-D vs Lyudmila-D for Armsday order.

Already grabbing Suros Scout Rifle and the Shotgun with other chars.

Give up, move on. Life is too short for video games

The website shows 0 marks for me too, but I should have 12. I'd guess the website is simply incorrect. I happen to have my Vita at work here so I'll remote-play in and double check, will edit in a minute once I connect.

EDIT: Still have my marks in game (though I have 9, not 12, forgot I infused twice)

So how do I get that 3 high value target on each planet done? I know it's the circle with a star for the icon of the HVT missions but I've rarely ever seen them outside the cosmodrome. Will doing other patrol missions make the HVT missions appear more?

Give up because the endgame activities is still the same as base game and the story mission is only last around 7 hrs. After that you are back to doing bountries on patrol missions and daily quests.

Made it to level 39 last night, with a light level of 188. Not bad for two hours of playing before bed. My light would be higher, but I've opted to use a weaker Hunter class item.

I was rewarded a faction item from a Legendary Engram, too. I pledged with New Monarchy, but I got a 280 Dead Orbit chest piece. Thought that was strange.

I played about 30 hours of Destiny at launch and traded it in. I've forgotten how the game even works. Does TTK do a good job of reintroducing me? I'm downloading it right now.

All the words and terms I'm reading in this thread sound overwhelming and confusing (marks, motes, wut?)

So...I heard theres a auto level-up item, that gets your new character instantly to level 25. Is this true? And if so, how about your weapons? You get lvl 25 weapons or you'll be at lvl 25 with lvl 2 weapons?

I hated Destiny when it first came out, got back into it because my son started to play and then had a blast raiding with GAF.

The story of the expansion is great, albeit not that long and they have made a lot of changes to the core game...work has been killing me a so I barely know what to do now that I hit 40 lol but that's part of the fun

How so? I´m interested.
Well after the story is done there is a plethora of quests to go after. It becomes overwhelming even for people who have played both dlc (which I'm assuming you haven't)

There's armsday quests and bounties
Pvp specific bounties
And vanguard bounties, yes

But there's quests from almost every npc in the game in multiples

You could be doing random patrol quests
Or new side story driven quests
Weapon quests
The court of oryx public event quests
Exploring the dreadnaught
End game content:
New strikes
Remixed strikes
Weekly and nightfall
Pvp

And I still haven't even touched the surface on the sheer amount of content in the game. This expansion is literally as big as vanilla and the two dlc combined. What that poster said is straight up misinformation. It's understandable if you don't want to jump in because of no matchmaking, repeatativeness, but trust me when I say there's no shortage of things to do in th game right now.

What do you do with the armsday weapons do when you get them fully tested?
Keep em of delete them

Well the expansion has an ok story but its short as hell. Then you have additional stuff once your done but that's a difficult answer without a lot of the rebound happiness going around. Maybe wait for a sale. Especially if the content, story and everything else got you. The 2.0 fixed a great deal but no harm in holding off a bit to see where everything lands.

Do all of the story stuff. The storyline missions do a good job of pointing you in the right direction. There's a ton of new quests and missions and you should have plenty to work on. Once you reach level 40 you will need Legendary Marks (which can be gained from the Daily and Weekly challenges once you hit 40) to purchase vendor legendaries and to infuse, or power up, your existing gear.

Basically your first goal should be to complete the story missions and hit level 40.

Thanks!

I was afraid of that... :/ too bad.
Brutal. That isn't even close to accurate and bounties become largely incidental or even unnecessary at endgame, especially with the new ability to consume Motes of Light for gear XP.

Amazingly you didn't even mention the raids here, the newest of which is apparently the largest and most challenging of the three. If Jamiaro quit after a month I'm not sure if he ever got to even do VoG; just FYI I am still doing weekly raids for newbies/anyone who feels like doing the old stuff.

For sure. I was thinking of finally playing something other than my Hunter when this came out, but it's going to be a while before I entertain that idea. So much stuff to do. Also, we got to team up again sometime (MrJellyBean here. Not sure if you remembered my GAF name). I'm sure I'll be on all night again. Good to be hooked on Destiny again.
