Is there no story level for Lego Chima and Jurrasic World? Im currently at the world after Scooby Doo and it looks like there isnt any. I'd be bummed if there wasn't.

pianojutsu from Gamefaqs made a google doc that list all the characters & vehicules abilities.
It will be helpful to determine what to buy & lower the bill...
Question.
Are all the abilities necessary to progress, retrieve studs & bricks or some are just funny to use like for example "Big transform" ?
can someone clarify something for me, I saw someone say that you cant play a scooby doo level unless you have the fun pack? now I know level packs have extra levels, so is this person wrong?

The hubs I've been to, BTTF and Portal 2 are FULL of fan service.
Honestly Lego Dimensions is probably one of the best gaming experiences ever. I can't get over it. My childhood memories flood with I touch those Lego and all my favorite IPs are there too.
How would you guys rate the game tough for those that actually played a bunch of the other regular Lego games in direct comparison? Is it pretty much the same except the paywall/level and figure packs thing then?
I really enjoyed most of the ones i played so far so if this is at least equal in quality i might have to get it sooner or later...

I'm still wading through the content but I'm about 8 hours in (this includes the building time of the LEGO sets which I guess counts since the game walks you through building them.)
First and most importantly, if you aren't interested in owning or building the physical LEGO toy sets then stay away because it's interwoven in this game in ways other Toys-to-Life games don't even approach. Thankfully I think most people with even the slightest interest in LEGO video games probably like the physical toys, but it's worth noting. You will need to build the sets and have space to store or display them, for example.
If you like the open world elements of some more recent LEGO games then Dimensions is going to please you, assuming you buy several of the figures to unlock more of the open world areas. If you're wary you should just buy the base game which gives you full access to the three most important themes from the game (DC Superheroes, LEGO Movie and Lord of the Rings), and limited access to the other themes -- but enough to where you can get a good taste for them and decide if you want more, which can be unlocked by buying the toys from that theme.
So, I am having fun with it but the combat is the weakest part of the game, sadly. LEGO games really need to take a page from Disney Infinity and do a full overhaul of their combat and power system in future games to add more depth. However, if you are fine with past LEGO game combat then it's not an issue. Just don't expect it to be evolved.
Wow the portal story level was amazing, can't wait to dig into the level pack and hub world later. Also the hub worlds feel like there own game. I thought this game was over priced but I've changed my mind. The mini builds are actual toys and not statues. This is a real toys to life game. Not statues to life like the others. Also the lighting and graphics are top notch, I'm being blown away visually by a Lego game it's pretty bizzare. Good job to the team at travelers tales.

Yea it's not like Amiibo, Skylanders or anything because we BUILD the actual things. Amazing feeling I cannot describe and the Portal 2 level oommggg I almost cried.
Yup, and the fact that the mini builds have 3 variants is awesome. When I popped the bat mobile off the stand and gave it to my son, he was blown away that it actually rolled and played with it on the coffee table.

Yeah, as you probably know (as a LegoGAF member) i am a pretty avid Lego collector already so building the sets and storing them etc. really doesn't impress me a lot so to me it comes down to the actual game. I guess if it's at least as good as the best of them (HP, LOTR, Batman 2 of the ones i've played) then i will have my share of fun. If only the base back thing wasn't so damn expensive. That one IS more than 60 bucks isn't it?

The starter pack is 100$ but you can get it for 80$ with gamers club unlocked. For 80$ it was well worth it. You get a 266 piece Lego build. The portal is awesome and more advanced than its competitors. The story mode is fantastic. And you get 3 adventure worlds, dc universe, Lego movie, and LOTR.
Also it's the best Lego game made to date, it's surpassed Lego city undercover.

Ugh, the game design in this is sometimes quite terrible.
Bought the Back to the Future story pack last night and spent half an hour trying to figure out how to unlock the models, just like the Portal ones (still locked since I bought the game). Eventually I discovered that I was supposed to use the main portal, not the realm-specific portal, to access the realm story. I'd been using the realm portals to access each of the realms, but they don't activate the story mode. That is some stupid design there. Nothing whatsoever in the game told me that I needed to use the main portal for that.
And then in the level I got stuck in the car park scene because I didn't know I needed to get the terrorists to blow up the shopping trolleys. They had the silver effect, so I assumed that I needed to bring back the Wicked Witch or whoever to break those. I was OK with that since there was plenty of other character-specific stuff in the BTTF levels. I don't have the Wicked Witch, so I haven't actually broken any of the silver parts, so I don't know if she does it with an explosion, but again the game gave me no indication whatsoever that I needed to use the terrorists to blow up those bits (and the only way I knew was to watch someone's youtube walkthrough :-( ). Again, very poor game design, which I remember being a big issue in the first (and only other) Lego game I ever played - the Indiana Jones one. It's a good thing I get to play with Lego in this one or I'd be grumpy.
Also, why is there no-one wandering around in the Castle in Lego Movie Land? Did they just run out of time to add the characters there? No knights, no civvies, no nothing...

What, exactly, is straightforward about the way accessing those is presented in the game? As far as I knew, that big portal was for accessing the main story.
The Lego games have historically not been great at explaining things, and I'm not surprised Lego Dimensions shares that problem. It's the classic "i feel like an idiot because i missed something obvious" problem that plagues the Lego series, the games never do anything TOO complicated but it's always easy to miss something simple, like explosions breaking silver items, and just not understand the puzzle they assume you can solve pretty quickly.
That said, at least they're very blatant about the spots where you need a specific figure to do a specific thing. I was worried you'd just see a bunch of weird stuff and never know who you needed to interact with it. That's not much of a problem from what I've seen, save for a few spots.

I will echo this: there's many places where the game does explain things very well, and I'm very happy with that. It's a mixed bag
I'm still enjoying the heck out of the game. And the Lego too, though I suspect I'll tire of collecting the studs before I get all the model build instructions
It's kinda weird that you have to collect a million studs to unlock the "make it easier to get studs" power up... but then again I will probably aim for that soon since I estimate that I'll need over 3 million studs to fully unlock the 6 vehicles I currently own. And I reckon I'll own more vehicles before this wild ride is over...
Took me a while to figure out that I needed to go back to Vorton for the Lego pieces to accumulate. I kept collecting pieces but it just wouldn't add to the total in the upgrade screen.
Also sorry for being a dick, r1chard. What I was thinking really didn't come out well when I typed it.
Honestly that's on the low end compared to earlier games. (Those games also had more than 2x unlockable; you could get yourself up to 3840x. Going to miss that...)

Oh crap. I've not been keeping a really close look on my stud count, but I've definitely done a collection run and then quit from the realm and not gone back to the hub Thanks for that tip! And also, I didn't think you were being a dick, no sweat

What exactly makes you say that? As someone who has played through the whole story of LCU and finished it up to 75% (didn't do it all yet as it's huge compared to other Lego games) i can say that it easily outclasses all other Lego games i've played because of a couple factors: amazing open world with every area having a great laid back tone and a ton of puzzles/secrets/collectibles in each one. The actual charm of this game is through the roof, the humor is genuinely funny (to me at least), the story levels are AMAZING, pretty much all of them. There is actually a decent level of platforming in this one, and the exploration factor is immense. Also: this is easily the most polished Lego game so far and was almost completely bug free for me as opposed to most other Lego games.
How does Dimensions top this? It should be far less cohesive since it's all a bunch of different worlds/themes when it comes to story right? Or does it all come together and is interconnected in ways i cannot even fathom yet?
Yep, I have to side with Undercover I think. I'm loving this and is certainly the best LEGO game in a long time but I feel that Undercover is seperate to the rest of the series almost. Undercover just hit an amazing balance of humour and exploration that hasnt been repeated since in a LEGO game in my mind.
I would LOVE there to be a Frank Honey/Chase McCain team pack coming to this game. Or even better Lego City Undercover 2.
One of my favourite games. My wife 100%'ed and every member of my family completed the story mode including my 4 year old.
We need LEGO City Undercover 2 and we need it this gen.
If you are still on the fence about this game due to its cost and potential investment requirements... you really should read through this thread because it's not an easy answer to say it is or is not worth it. It is likely worth it if you/your kids are big LEGO fans. You do get quite a bit of content in the base game so I suggest buying that and MAYBE 1 or 2 of the smaller sets to supplement it before investing further. Try to get a diverse character roaster from lots of different themes. If you only buy the base game and some extra LEGO movie characters you aren't going to open up a lot of extra content or gameplay features. But if instead you bought say the Scooby pack and the Back to the Future or Portal pack then you are adding some open world areas (several hours extra) and a bonus level or two (roughly 1 hour extra each, maybe a bit more or less.)
Been playing this over the weekend with my 2 year old son and having a blast so far.
Jack moves the characters around the portal, and I control the characters.
I've only got the base pack so far and I'm not sure what set I want to get first, both the BTTF & Portal level packs are on my to-buy list.
Couple of downsides, the frame rate for the Wii U version is terrible at times especially during cut scenes.
I felt the Simpsons themed level was pretty disappointing
only homer really played any part in the story, and all his lines were made up of sound bites from the TV show. That and half the level you're fighting in the sky, so you don't really get to see much of Springfield at all

The level that comes in the Simpsons pack is way better than the one in the game. It also comes with the Simpsons hub world which is pretty much all of Springfield to explore.

My Benny set was missing the 1x6 grey tile needed for the Spaceship. Second time I've ever had a missing piece (the first was in a Chima set). It's a common piece, so I should be able to scavenge it from somewhere. Still disappointing.

I've just finished the DC level. Amazing ending to that one. The Doctor Who level was amazing too. I can't wait for the Portal campaign level if it's any bit as good as the Portal 2 Level Pack level.
I picked up two team packs today... Scooby Doo and Jurassic World. I keep hunting for secrets and Easter Eggs like in Oz where you have
sepia Kansas underneath
and places that have time machine switches. It's a blast. The mini sets didn't look that impressive in pictures, but I think they've done a great job with them. In person they look pretty good. The only one I'm disappointed with so far is the Gyrosphere which doesn't come close to looking like the actual thing. It doesn't even match the in game model like all the others.
I'm probably going to end up buying some Chima and Ninjago nonsense at some point in the future just to get their worlds, because the worlds are so dang good, and I want to rescue Cave Johnson (needs a Chima character) from the Portal 2 level, and there's a really fun looking platforming part in the Scooby Doo world that needs a Ninjago person to do the spin switches.
I'm planning on waiting until I have the stuff I actually want first, then seeing what skills and worlds I'm missing and trying to get them with as few figures as possible... but I think Ninjago and Chima are going to be unavoidable.
And, they really need to add Lego City Undercover to this. I'm confident they will. They must!
No missing pieces or malfunctioning toy tags so far. Yay!
