I thought |OT|s only went up the day before release? Or is that just a gaming side thing?
They said on Full of Sith podcast you cannot embargo a premier because you cant NDA the public who will go there (friends/family etc)
You can control who goes to film premiers though and invites can come with restrictions. It's not like the general public can just buy tickets.
I'm still not clear how ST:ID is terrible.
Sure, it's not the greatest sci-fi film out there and doesn't hold a candle to its 2009 predecessor, but it's far from a disaster.
Disclaimer: I'm not a big Trekkie
If you never saw any prior Trek movies, STID isn't that bad.
If you have seen the prior movies, STID is bad because it tries (and fails) to lift a lot of content from Wrath of Khan.
Star Trek (2009) was awesome because it tried new things and, while it had come callbacks, it didn't rely on them. It pushed forward and was a new adventure for fans old and new.
Star Trek Into Darkness felt like the filmmakers were afraid to try something new and instead simply cribbed from prior movies, hoping to make something familiar.
This would be a like TFA simply being a rehash of the ANH story, with some characters flipped around.
If TFA is its own thing and moves the universe forward, people are going to love it. If TFA just rehashes the same basic plot of ANH with new players, people are going to shit on it.
I agree, but how does one get destroyed in a saber fight but walk out with all limbs in-tact?
A villain who wants to "send a message." As in "I just kicked your ass, now run home and tell your Rebel buddies how badass I am and how you have no chance of winning."
Don't know if TFA will use that, but it is a pretty old trope.
