Hey guys and girls,

started the game saturday and it is quite fun. I think my expectations were a tad too high, but maybe the game will fully convince me later on. I'm in Scotland right now (gamewise)^^

The graphics are not that mindblowing during gameplay, but the cut scenes are really good stuff. Maybe the ps5 can show us such graphics during actual gameplay. Right now it has the typical, sorry for saying that, console-feel to it. The ingame-model can look a bit retarded during certain light-conditions, mainly in the open areas. But for the given hardware and the open areas it is of course naughty. The order looks better imo, but they only gave us tunnels and small playgrounds with little to no gameplay.

The gameplay in UC4 is fun, but I miss the big set-pieces and the pacing is a bit too slow for my taste. Give me those big action-sequences, damnit.

On a side-note: In TLOU and now in UC4 I see some blur around the charcaters, when I circle or move the camera quickly. In UC4 it is especially distracting around Nathan's hair. Is it my tv or the engine/aa-technique? Just curious.

Nevertheless, I am sure, the game will get even better and I am having a lot of fun with it!

Enjoy :)

I'd imagine the more you play the better you'll find it, as it's a relatively slow start. Also feel the further in to the game you progress, the better the visuals get too imo.

I personally think the OST is really good. It's incredibly subtle, which is perfect. It serves the story/gameplay, rather than standing alone and being all bombastic and shit.

There's one moment where I felt it could have kicked off and really gone full-ham, and it didn't, which was disappointing, but it's still great on the whole.

FYI finished the game last night. Still chewing on it. Especially the end. A lot of quirky tonal shifts and a couple of minor disappointments for me - but I can't deny the thing is a goddamn masterwork.

Rise of the Tomb Raider is a great game, but UC4 is a class above. It's a classic. A masterwork. RotTR can't match it at all - although in terms of pacing and exploration, I think RotTR may be better. It just feels a lot less special.

I was playing Rise of the Tomb Raider (on PC) immediately before I got Uncharted 4 in my hands.

Uncharted 4 looks better.

I think RotTR has a cleaner look - there isn't strange motion blur or as many artifacts - but the overall impression of UC4 is fucking mindblowing.

There are moments where it looks literally like a digital painting. Like a high-end artist's masterful concept art made real. Very, very close to real life. You push a thumbstick and Drake moves and you're just like... "I'm playing this??"

It's not flawless - there's one setpiece in particular which obviously was a bit shunned in QA because I encountered a whole load of nasty immersion-breaking details - but aside from that... Shit, the thing is practically a playable movie. It's like being in control in Indiana Jones or Jurassic Park (stylistically) or something. It's insane.

I am shocked and disappointed how mediocre Rise of the Tomb Raider seems to me. I am close to the finish (won't spoil anything here) but somehow the locations and the story united with the input lag are creating a far less interesting experience than what the definitive Edition offered. And I still imagine that the reboot looked better on PS4 (playing the XBox One Version of ROTTR, at least from a technical standpoint the PC-Version has to be far prettier than what I am playing on XBox One). There is still fun to have here and there but damn I am glad I will finish it today before I get my copy of Uncharted in a fee hours^^ Still also looking forward to the next Tomb Raider.

Waiting for my libertalia edition to ship

Mine is hanging at a distribution centre somewhere. Royal Mail still processing it since yesterday and it's on its way apparently. Not expecting it today.

You feel that DS3 is the best in the series? not judging or anything :P

No, not what I'm saying. Purely that he sees the relationship between the franchises in having a landmark entry in the series that the following games were always held up to. DS1 is my favourite Dark Souls and I feel UC4 matches UC2 but in different ways.

Unrelated but related, I actually felt Uncharted 4 has been influenced slightly by the Souls series.

Good enough for me.

But it's weird that he say that the gunplay still leaves something to be desired, from all the impressions and from what I've played in the beta, the gunpkay is superb, one of the best in the business I would say.

This review is mine. Hello!

I think the gunplay is streets ahead of every other Uncharted, but there's just something for me about the way you get in cover, the way the characters move and so on that makes the gunplay probably my least favourite bit of the game (whereas in TLOU combat was probably my favourite bit). It's not that it's bad, I just wish it were a bit tighter... but your mileage will vary, that's just me.

For me it didn't bother me as much as it did in 3 (which was also far worse for it anyway) because the way you can now drop in and out of stealth means that if you don't want to engage in large-scale gunfights, you don't have to. Even when the game does the classic Naughty Dog trick of sending out a wave of 3-4 of the hardest enemies in the game who eat bullets like candy towards the end, you can actually stealth out of their sight then take them down more easily with sneak attacks - so a lot of my frustrations from previous games evaporated with that. I found large-scale gun fights a frustration, so as time went on I basically just began to avoid engaging in them by using stealth instead.

It's a ridiculously good game, anyway.

Hey, nib, what difficulty are you currently playing on? I'm deciding to go on Hard the first time because I remember a post from you saying the PSX demo was too easy. My recent subsequent playthroughs of UC 2 & 3 are on Crushing and TLOU on Survivor with Left Behind on Hard the first time, so I think I can take it.

Playing on Moderate this first time. Which tbh is mostly easy, though I've still died a few times here and there. I just wanted to get used to all the mechanics and with the aiming (no aim assist) before jumping in to Hard, which I feel may have prevented me from experimenting as much with everything on offer combat wise.

My copy arrived this weekend surprisingly enough!

So I am only 4 chapters in, and I must say my jaw has been dropped at least 8 times. I am absolutely puzzled on how they made this game look on such hardware; to say its aesthetically pleasing is an injustice.

But without giving too much away I would say the intro is emotional however it provides a different type of emotional punch to TLOU. The overall presentation and it's transition to the opening credits is outstanding.

Can't wait to play more tonight after work!

Thanks for responding! But ugh, now I'm even more conflicted. Perhaps I will begin on Hard and drop to Moderate if it's too much. Does it have an insane difficulty spike like Left Behind at the end? IIRC, even on Hard, I managed to pass that section without too much issues.

I'd just do that, start on Hard and drop down only if you think it's frustrating or breaking the flow of pacing. As you've just recently played the other games on Crushing, I'd imagine you'll fair fine with Hard in UC4 tbh, though you'll obviously have to be a bit more cautious and tactical about how you use the rope swing and other mechanics.

Great, thanks for the explanation, I got your analogy.

Great review man, didn't play the campaign yet so I can't comment but game sounds wonderful regardless.

I see, thanks! The reason I'm asking is because I found Crushing to be the best way to play Uncharted 2 as the combat stays tense and thrilling at all times. Ditto with The Last Of Us on Survivor. But Crushing the first time through is definitely suicide and I think I'll go with Hard the first time through, thanks!

Edit: Just to add, in my latest playthrough of the trilogy, I changed my strategy from last time a bit. I used traversal a lot more than last time and Uncharted 3 actually felt easier than I remembered. I think I'll be fine on Hard in Uncharted 4 since it encourages traversal.

Pre-loaded the game, and played probably my final mp games of U3 (great games too!) today in celebration of U4.

I'm ready for midnight.

Lets go!

I've had no time at all to read impressions, etc. Just curious, how is the platforming stuff? I'm really stoked to use the grappling hook in SP. I'm hope for some high-tier platforming/puzzle stuff from ND this go-around.

None of the platforming is particularly challenging or puzzling. It's very obvious stuff just like the other games. Sometimes you're just wondering where to start climbing.

Lamp speaks the truth - but the platforming is fun as heck. Rarely challenging, but very fun.

Also there are some bits where there can be up to 2-3 ways to tackle the same route, so its nice to explore and roam around and pick your way. If feels really natural and open.

Damn if i had gone digital(like Dark Souls 3) i would be playing the game in 9 hours from now...I didn't think i would be this impatient to play it

I kinda figured this is why mine hadn't shipped, but it's good to have it confirmed. I live in a state where one is, so now it makes sense.

Mine just changed to "preparing for shipment" so yeah don't worry. I've never had a problem with Amazon delivery times.

Tesco have shipped so hopefully be playing tomorrow :)

It's been hard avoiding youtube to see playthroughs of some of the early chapters but l have resisted to ensure l sample the goodness myself.
