Now that I think about it, I really do think that they're two different Links. And that the overworld and dark world aspect will be using the book/device to switch control between the two Links in different timelines/alternate realities.

It'll never happen but I have new fan fiction to write now.

*trailer opens with Link shaving legs while reading 'Fifty Shades of Grey' and eating nonfat Greek yogurt; reruns of 'Sex and the City' play in the background; Link's room is filled with pink frilly things, yoga pants, etc*

*GAF leans forward*

GAF: "This is it! This is it!"

*the trailer then shows Link going to the bathroom and peeing while standing up*

GAF: "Dammit."

I hate that idea.

At least that leaves the door open for Katy Perry being his sidekick.

Huh, the idea of two parallel realities, each with their one Link — one male, one female — is kind of neat, actually.

I mean, technically we might already have concurrent Links (i.e. Twilight Princess Link exists in one timeline parallel to Wind Waker Link in another).

That sound cool actually but what if that second Link is actually Zelda.

'you can play as a female character through this ancient magic, we called amiibo for short.'

Remember, the rumor is about a female playable character not a female Link,
Then here's how I revise my prediction:

*trailer opens with tranquil shot of a grassy green field, a remix of Ballad of the Goddess playing in the background*

*as the song reaches its final notes, it slows down and drifts into silence*

*and then...*

*A WORMHOLE RIPS OPEN IN THE SKY*

*THE METROID THEME STARTS PLAYING*

*SAMUS' GUNSHIP FLIES DOWN TO LINK*

Samus: "I am female!" *throws bra at Link* "Let me adventure with you!!"

Link: *nods* "Hyahh!"

*cut to sweet shot of Samus shooting a Spinner out of her arm cannon, which Link then rides while chopping off heads*

You know this wouldn't end this quickly.

GAF: "by the pose and the direction of the piss, you can tell it's actually not a male but female Link being disguised!"

Not long now, my friends.

Any ideas for the subtitle?

Something like:
The Tome of ___
or
The Book of ___

Based on what Link is carrying (might not be a book though).
I can see it have a title including the words "Sheikah" or "Truth". Like you said DKHF, something like "The Tome of the Sheikah" or "The Book of Truth".

Or maybe even something classic like "The Legend of Zelda: The Eye of Truth".

Or something.

GAF: "by the pose and the direction of the piss, you can tell it's actually not a male but female Link being disguised!"
...and it turns out they're right!

THE LEGEND OF ZELDA: THE FUNNEL OF DECEPTION!

Hardcore realist response:

"They picked those two images of Link because they're the only officially released images at this point and they didn't want to spoil things ahead of E3."

Dare-to-dream response:

"Left Link is male, right Link is female!"

Remember, the rumor is about a female playable character not a female Link,

The rumor was, "You can choose either a Male or Female playable character." She didn't say, "You can choose between Link or a female character." You can argue semantics, but it's still probably going to be a female Link if anything.

Just saying to keep expectations in check.

Could Zelda, Impa or even Linkle.

Or even like Pokemon 2 characters that get one role if it's chosen.

Expecting the Female Link as the only true will bring some epic meltdowns if it's wrong.

Futa Link confirmed.

I would think the female would be female Link because the story in Zelda is generally about a chosen hero saving the day, so if they're going to give you a female option, the female option would likely still be Link

Seriously people, if there was a choice between male and female Link the differences would definitely be a lot more noticeable than we are seeing here. Otherwise what's the point? Why would they make a female version which looks nearly identical to the male version? Does that really add anything to the game?

It's also art, not screenshots. Artists don't need to recreate the exact same facial details on 2 different pieces, especially in a stylized art style like this. Definitely not persuasive proof of male and female Link.

To be fair, Emily loves to play with words. Wouldn't be surprised if it's Zelda (just like it could be Female Link, Twinkle, Impa...).

Not sure why, I've never been a fan of that. Which is even more ridiculous when I further examine myself and find that I have no problem with in-game wardrobes at all. Don't ask me why but I just don't like the idea that you start the game by customizing your character.

On that same note, I don't mind a male/female protagonist but I also greatly prefer if they just ran with one gender, doesn't matter which.

I could see the default name for the female protagonist being "Zelda" and not Link, even though their designs were similar.

I still think it's strange that they haven't shown Link in his traditional green tunic and hat.

I'm starting to wonder if it's because it would clash with all that lovely grass.

Someone tell Nintendo the best way to generate hype for the new Zelda would be by dumping the Skyward Sword ISO onto Wii U eShop.

Well, I mean I don't know how much hype it would generate, but I want to play it again and don't want to plop the ~$40 or so it goes for now second-hand.
