The Atlas path is part of the game's narrative. If you don't care about that, I guess you can ignore it.

I do, but I don't seem to be getting any narrative. It just says something about sticking to the path. I'd be ok with it if it didn't expect me to travel the galaxy one star at a time. It would be nice if it let me just jump by black holes at least but then I'm left with other atlas stations on my waypoints that are millions of Ly away.

My game crashed as I was saving at some two bit shack that I had just walked out of after leaving my ship. Rather than load the previous (2 minutes?) save it pulls both saves off the cloud. I've lost 7 hours, a newly charted system and one heck of a new ship. I feel sick.

Sorry which base?

Go out to base, look for a yellow icon with a tetrahedron shape, it's a big spacestation, you can't miss it~

:X Damn man. Can't imagine how that feels.

You could look for a crashed ship, it will need to be repaired but won't cost nearly as much as buying one.
The very next planet I visited after buying my first ship I found a crashed ship. It had one more inventory slot, but, after repairs, wasn't worth the lateral swap.

It would have saved me almost a million credits, RIP.

If you just want to change the appearance of your ship and nothing else without spending money, buy the one you like then reload your current save ;)

I still really wanna know where things like Portals and really huge creatures come into play. Havent seen anyone find one of these and they are claimed to still be there in the game. I wonder if the multiple galaxies is something that leads to these things, like things get crazier the more galaxies you explore.

I found what looked to be a non working portal in the game. Like it had the look but no swirly thing inside and you could just walk and see right through the portal area to the other side (which was the same planet).

Damn that's awful. I hope the next update is purely about fixing all these crashes.

Have you tried going offline? I wonder if the load save option would then load the local stuff...

This game is making me stay up way later than I usually do. Something about playing at night with headphones is special.

BioShock Infinite is like playing some homeless guy's vivid imagination
This game is giving me serious Spore vibes.

Please tell me this won't be this gen's Spore.

So I found a transmission tower for locating crashed ships. I kept cracking the code (it was the same number every tim and it kept locating new crashed ships every time. I ended up finding like 5 or 6 before I stopped because I didn't want too many way points. Is this normal? It was pretty cool.

Went to a system with a huge planet and a tiny moon. It would bug out every time I tried to go to the moon by suddenly rendering the planet in front of the moon as I got close. It's like the moon spawned inside of the planet or something.

My game crashed for the first time during warping, and when I closed the game and reopened it, it gave me an error message while trying to load my save file. It loaded it fine when I tried it again thankfully.

Space combat is pretty bad. It takes too long to swing around to find who is shooting at you and the shields go down way too fast. And I'm crashing on every death now.

So after watching streams for a few hours here and there I finally played all day with my buddy at his place. This is kind of how I feel about the game.

It definitely feels like the Vanilla release of something greater. Like Elite: Dangerous at launch. It needs a lot more content I assume will come in DLC, which is why I feel this isn't worth 60 dollars currently. I'd say 30 to leave room for what I hope to see a few DLC releases to round it off. Like Pirate planet bases, military installations etc. Maybe an information broker who gives out missions to find interesting and extremely valuable loot. There's so much they can do to expand on the base they've created, especially on PC given mod support (Have they commented on this at all?) I do wonder if the combat system could be expanded further too, it certainly feels very shallow and limited.

As it stands this feels like a framework for something that could be much much greater if they keep working on it with diligence. But to me it feels a bit early access. albeit a polished one. The price just doesn't reflect that. I hope to see much more of this game down the line but as of right now it's a no buy for me.

If you're still in the first or second system, you can still get the blueprint objective.

It is when you use your hyperdrive to jump to another system AND THEN switch to a ship without the hyperdrive that you'll be stranded.

The progression of the bug is...

  • redeem the preorder ship
  • skip or miss the hyperdrive blueprint
  • jump several starsystems ahead
  • switch ships (which won't have a hyperdrive)
  • DEAD

WTF? So if a make the tutorial and then redeem the ship its a-ok?

I didn't either. It's the only thing that makes sense though. I've been in and out of my ship dozens of times and saved at locations dozens of times and now I have two hours old saves. It seems like the cloud is the only way it could have happened.

I've had four or five crashes but this is the only one I've had where the game was actively saving at the time.

I came across a planet that's absolutely covered in Sac Venom, which I can only assume is a rare thing to happen. The stuff sells for something like 24k units a piece, so I've just been roaming around collecting millions while checking out monoliths and other things. There's an unusually high number of trading posts too, so the travel time to sell is really short. Each pass is about 750k with my storage space. The only catch is that there's angry sentinels everywhere. Giant walker ones too. I won't stick around forever but it's definitely the first planet I've found that's been highly worth exploring for hours at a time.

Ok I have a million units now and I'm debating whether to buy a new ship or just upgrade my existing one. How do you get new slots for your ship? Is it even possible or should I just go ahead and buy a new ship?

It takes practice. I use the brake to stop and let them fly past and then give chase, or just stop and shoot as they fly at me.

Once you upgrade Shields and Cannon it gets awesome. The first time I took down 3 pirates it felt so badass.

You can't upgrade it sadly. I'd do some hunting for crashed ships though. I've found some cool stuff for free!

Ok I'll go hunting for a new ship today then I think.

I need to get one as these space pirates are kicking my arse anytime I want to go somewhere and there's no way to run away from them.

So is the game actually fun? Or is it just "cool look what i found/saw/discovered you can do"

Edit: Like, i know monotonous, unfun things can be addictive (like mmo grinding and farming materials in mmos) but thats not what im looking for at this point in time.

Game has been crashing consistently over the last couple hours. Took a small break and it's crashed twice now during the initial loading. Error code (CE-34878-0)

Still loving the game after about 8 hours.

In Star Control 2, I loved just flying my spaceship around, landing on planets, mining minerals and shooting critters. This game really is what I've been waiting for (just missing a little buggy/ATV to cruise around in!). It's obviously missing the big story of Star Control 2, but heck this is as close to replicating that experience in 3D for me.

The second I stopped caring about saving shit, and decided to sell everything out of my inventory every time I went to a space station or trading post my life literally changed.

Fuck you full inventory. I am in control now.

Captains log: 8/9/16 22:00 Day II

The new planet i explored was way better than the jerkface starter one. I was able to explore under the sea and even scan some aggresssive fish. I have loaded up on gold and nickle while gaining a a bunch more av'keen words. They were lots of large beasties i befriended who showed me some loot. I opted out of buying a fellow travelers ship as im becomjng quite accustomed to my flying heap of scrap metal. This planet had lots of drop pods for exosuit leveling too. As the other planets were setting i discovered the hyperdrive blueprints and will take final preparations to jump to my third world tomorrow.

Day 3 stuck in my second system prison, around 10 more factories explored. I'm coming closer and closer to ending it all and starting again to escape. But I can't let my 20hrs of progress go...

I actually found a hyperdrive accessory component and briefly believed I was free... then I realized what I'd actually found.

nnnng jetpack upgrade and a rare alloy recipe.

can't really spare the resources to playing with them right now, there's so much tech on this ship to repair.

Also just got killed by the biggest creature I've seen so far, basically a giant elephant-sized armadillo, I didn't stand a chance against it

Starting to run out of credits thanks to exosuit upgrades. 200,000+ is a lot to swallow for one spare inventory slot.

It started off a lot better than spending a million or so on a large ship, but now it's obvious both investments will be necessary

It may be an oversight for transmission towers because at other places it usually stops the ability to interact if you're right or wrong.

Also, if you're asked for certain resources and you know the answer (because you understand enough language) but don't have the resources, you can back out with circle and go find the resource the question will stay the same.
